  1. Nice interview Eduardo. Thanks for taking the time and effort.
  2. A pastor goes to visit an elderly woman who didn’t make it to church that Sunday to see if everything is all right. It turns out that she was fine. She just overslept that day. She asks him if he would like some coffee while they visit, and he says yes. While she is in the kitchen, getting the coffee, he notices a bowl of peanuts on the coffee table and since he hasn’t had lunch yet he swipes a handful and munches them down. He doesn’t think this will be a problem because she doesn’t see so well. She brings in the drinks and notices she forgot the sugar and cream. So off to the kitchen she goes. Again, the pastor swipes a larger handful and cleans out the bowl of peanuts while she is gone. They share their coffee making small talk to pass the hour. The pastor then gets up to take his leave and asks her if she needs anything or if he can get her anything for his next visit. She then asks him if he would mind picking her up some more peanuts, because she has already sucked all the chocolate off the ones in the bowl on the table.
  3. Well written. Thanks for the read.
  4. If your abdomen is not tight and "ready" for the strike, a gut shot can put many people down.
  5. I will recommend "Radio" with Cuba Godding, Jr. It is not out yet, but looks fantastic. Check out the previews. There will also be The Matrix: Revolutions and The Lord of the Rings: Return of the King. Sure bets for hits.
  6. Ummmmm.........cuz it sucks?....... Just my opinion though.
  7. That's too bad.....I personally can't stand the stuff.
  8. It's a tough thing to conquer that fear of being hit really hard the first time. I went through the same thing with a senior belt my first time around with TKD. I got kicked pretty hard by a senior belt when there should have been lite contact. I didn't like to spar him after that, but talked to him and he said he came at me like that because he thought I would come at him hard. Now, I am 5'7" and he is like 6'2. I felt very flattered that someone larger than myself had misgivings about facing me in the square. Good article and thanks for sharing KK75.
  9. Sorry Warp, we are talking hypotheticals here about that very thing. Did you read the entire thread? Just wondering. I get the idea behind the Matrix very well. The mind is the only limiting factor at all. The fact Neo can be hurt at all just shows he still has some trouble grasping the entire concept or that he doesn't have limits.
  10. So, in push come to shove, when the crap hits the fan, will instinct kick in or will he get his teeth knocked out? Would the subconcious take over and have the body react?
  11. Pain comes from the nerve endings being aggrevated. The nerves then send the impulses to the brain which the brain interprets as pain, not the other way around. Pain comes from doing something your body's not ready to do. Stretching and kicking high is one of them. Your body would have to be conditioned to perform the movements, but the knowledge would be there for correct techique and execution. A little work and in six months of physical conditioning and you would be a great martial artist if it worked like that.
  12. Just having the knowledge would be a big step. You have to know what to do before doing it. So I think you could. Some would be better than others though.
  13. I like the Lord of the Rings of course, but I really enjoy books by James Byron Huggins. Very action oriented and reads like an action flim. The Reckoning, Leviathan, Cain, Hunter, and A Wolf Story are just to name some. All very good books.
  14. You are correct sir! He had it downloaded to his brain and therefore knows it.
  15. Ahhhh, but did you think it was a nice article? I never said I was part of a Chrisitian karate or MA. I said my Master Instructors were Christians. They don't even bring Chrisitanity into the dojang. But we do discuss Christian things after class and before. PM me and we can carry the discussion further if you like. I love to verbally joust as long as it is done in a civilized manner.
  16. I don't remember saying that there was a need for a Christian martial art. I am saying not all MA will be compatible with the Christian way of life, due to religious influence through the centuries. Taoism, Shaolin mysticism, Buddhism all espouse ideas and practices that greatly influenced the martial arts. They are also practices that are incompatible with Chrisianity. That is what my article tries to point out so that Christians can make an informed choice about the art form they study. You didn't hurt my feelings, but the staff here doesn't care for the style with which you write. I am just trying to keep the discussion open and fair. This is not a religious discussion either. It is an article to help Chrisitans decide if the art they have chosen is compatible with the spiritual journey they are taking. I still hold that some arts are compatible and some are not. That is the secondary idea in the article. The first being whether it is okay for Chrisitans to be martial artists. The answer is still yes. Also, Christ was angry at the Temple because they were using it, not to worship God, but to buy and sell goods. they had turned a sacred place into a market square. Just fyi.
  17. No inflammatory remarks please. I would like this thread to stay open. You are mistaken about Jesus though. He was in conflict with His own religious leaders. They are the ones who killed Him. He did exactly what He came to do. Die for us to pay the penalty for sin. But I digress, this article was about fears or worries that Christians might have about practicing MA, not what you are talking about.
  18. He should have won a video award this year. He was one of the best. Rest in Peace Johnny.
  19. Amen and amen. Too sad for words, but he turned it into something memorable for all of us who love his work.
  20. Here is the verse about being struck on the cheek in context. It's kinda lengthy. 27"But I tell you who hear me: Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, 28bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you. 29If someone strikes you on one cheek, turn to him the other also. If someone takes your cloak, do not stop him from taking your tunic. 30Give to everyone who asks you, and if anyone takes what belongs to you, do not demand it back. 31Do to others as you would have them do to you. 32"If you love those who love you, what credit is that to you? Even 'sinners' love those who love them. 33And if you do good to those who are good to you, what credit is that to you? Even 'sinners' do that. 34And if you lend to those from whom you expect repayment, what credit is that to you? Even 'sinners' lend to 'sinners,' expecting to be repaid in full. 35But love your enemies, do good to them, and lend to them without expecting to get anything back. Then your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High, because he is kind to the ungrateful and wicked. 36Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful. This is where we get the golden rule from. We as martial artists have the power and ability(we hope) to turn the other cheek or really hurt someone. Christ could have destroyed those who abused and mistreated them, but He didn't. He chose to turn the other cheek in order to show love for them. I still don't advocate being a punching bag, but forebearance is a great quality to have. Temperance as well.
  21. Sounds like Mandy Moore is your type.
  22. I remember when they used to play music videos 24 hours a day. It was a good station back then.
  23. Now I know even more why the three of them are not allowed in my house and my kids are not allowed to listen to them.
  24. To all who have rea this or may read this article, the article was incomplete when submitted. It was for the Survivor Challenge here at the forum. Maybe someday I will write a better more expository version to clarify and expound on issues that lay under the surface statements I made. I was working on a tight, tight schedule last time. Thanks again for all input and taking the time to view the article in it's present state.
