i have national geographic here in aust, but i havent seen it. i will have to keep my eye out for it.

i think a beginner should only take the 1 art. once you start to have an understanding of what MA is about, then look at other arts, but my response was to the 8 hours a week analogy of bushido man

i rekon its a funky kata. and for competition it is short and quick and there fore less opportunitys to forget/make mistakes. and if done properly, can look really good. also, for competition, you will always be facing the judges.

good luck. what is the sylabus like? -
Is there a side advantage?
Zorbasan replied to Ti's topic in MMA, Muay Thai, Kickboxing, Boxing, and Competitive Fighting
unless you really know your opponent, there is no real advantage. if you know how they prefer to attack/defend, get in the stance that is less condusive to what they want to do. -
What's your favorite MA Anime?
Zorbasan replied to lordtariel's topic in Martial Arts Gaming, Movies, TV, and Entertainment
teenage mutant ninja turtles ahah, loved it like ninja scroll too. -
its an interesting idea, but i dont think ebay will be the right media. a dojo is a very localised thing, whereas ebay is a world wide audience. good marketing comes down to hitting the right target demographic.

Class attendance
Zorbasan replied to The Kyokushin punisher's topic in Instructors and School Owners
yeh, now that you finally got it working its pretty good. lots of trouble to begin with, but all the bugs should be sorted out on this one now -
i have a problem in that i will go looking for something to eat at times when i shouldnt be, like 11pm - midnite. ill be watching tv in bed and think, damn, im hungry, then go eat something stupid like a biscuit or something. hopefully my eating habits will change when i move out of the inlaws and have my own kitchen again.

i might have to look in to this as i sweat a fair bit to. i personally would like a nice strong gi that is cool, rather than wicking the sweat away. something that breathes.

i did the opposite i have a 1st dan in tkd and when i started shotokan my sensei and sempai didnt even entertain the thought of starting me at a higher grade, or even pushing me thru quicker. and thats fine by me. i want to do things by the book, not use my previous experience as a short cut. (not that im saying thats what you did, but i feel the two arts, while similar, are different enough to warrant being a white belt in)

depends on a few things can you practice outside of class, how long are your sessions. when i started TKD i did 2ce per week to start with, but they were only 1 hour classes. as i went higher thru the grades i began to intensify my training within a month or so of grading. when i was going for BB i was going 4 - 5 times a week for 4 months or so before grading.

taekwondo kicks for beginner
Zorbasan replied to JKDkid2's topic in TKD, TSD, Hapkido, and Korean Martial Arts
dont try to start kicking head high from day one. the key to side and round house kicks is the grounded foot, flexibility will come by itself but start on the technique now. best thing to do is to get yourself in a good side kick position with your foot on a table or something, then you will be able to concentrate on your body positioning without worrying about the kicking foot. -
true, but there must be more than one solution to a combat scenario. im not saying that we should be looking at having more katas recognised by the JKA or whatever, im just saying it would be a good way to demonstrate knowledge.

yes, but without good hips, you wont make the grade HHAHHAAH but yeah, i have been 6th kyu for a bout a year now, for whatever reason ive not been able to grade, whether its money or other commitments. but it doesnt worry me. some of the kids at the school said they couldnt handle being the same grade for so long. I asked them why did it matter. in my own mind i know i am capable of a higher grade, and had situations been different i could have been 1st kyu by now, grading for shodan in december (other students that started at the same time as me are doing this now). I'll get there eventually, and when i do, i'll know i earnt it aswell.

i only recently had my MA apiphany (sp) in which im really keen, but living at the in laws place doesnt really lend itself to training at home. hopefully when i move in to my new (big) house i will get in to it a bit more. but knowing me ill start off all gung ho then slow down gradually. but, hopefully not.

I have a korean friend whose dad said to me once: "God created the japanese. Then, he realized he could do better, so he made koreans." which was hilarious hearing him say, but it points out the animousity they have as well. However, what I find odd is that the japanese people I know have know ill feeling toward koreans at all. haha, reminds me of Big Fat Greek Wedding "there are 2 types of people in the world, greeks, and everyone else who wishes they were greek" sounds like your friends dad has the same philosophy on koreans

HAHAHA

thats pretty much what i was trying to say in my post back at the start, just not so well
-
just use the regular resume / CV template and just put your MA stuff in their rather than work stuff. can i ask what you are doing it for?
-
it may make you a jack of all trades when it comes to specific arts, but i beleive it would make you a much more complete martial artist compared to one that only does the 1 art.

i do like chung mu for ITF TKD (actually, its probably the only one i can remember start to finish now) for WTF i like Taeguek 6 or 8, im really not a fan of 7. for shotokan, i really like heain yon dan (thats as far as i am at the moment anyway), but if i knew them i also like empi and teki sho dan.
