  1. fortune cookie man strikes again
  2. and, to be picky, being strong doesnt really have anything to do with throwing quick punches.
  3. ninjitsu has got to be one of the least taught MA's out there. plus when i looked in to it (there is a school in adelaide) it was extremely strict and super expensive.
  4. the miyagi family kata was a goju kata aswell (from no 3) i think this thread has turned a full circle now.
  5. hahaha that would be like the rocks "peoples empi"
  6. i love choong moo, its a great pattern. lots of kicks tho.
  7. as for the amount of belts , i have been to 3 TKD schools now and 1 has had less belts than my current karate (9 gup grades) school and the other 2 were the same (10 gup/kyu).
  8. angles are good for evading and countering. if you move around while they are standing there, they will be able to follow easier than if they are throwing a strike and you evade to an angled position.
  9. also might be an idea to mention the area. not going to be much use giving you Australian companies

    Wrist Grabs

wrist grabs would most like happen when you are trying to get away and they will make a grab at the wrist to pull you back. lapel grabs are more common in a bar fight type situation as an intimidation method, then the throat grab would be the one that will happen in the heat of a fight.
  11. when i was training for my BB i did 2 or 3 regular classes a week and 2 preblack / black belt classes a week, plus 1 breaking class per fortnight. i also practised my patterns at home.
  12. i like the junior black belt idea. as long as they have to regrade when they reach the age of senior BB. at one TKD school, the juniors had a modified BB test, but i never saw anyone get regraded when they reached a certain age.
  13. take mythbusters for example
  14. i like the medium weight one i have now. its heavy enough to feel strong but not so heavy to make you really hot. my old tkd school had nike doboks for the BB's and they look like they would be really comfortable to wear.

    Kata

i dont see it as an insult, we create new things every day in the MA. im sure back in the day they had set Ippons, set combinations etc, yet they have been changed. even the katas we do today are taught differently to the original way (proved by the fact that different schools teach them differently) i think devising a kata would be a good way to demonstrate knowledge of the art.
  16. the founder of the school is the one that should name the dojo. for example, i am currently being taught by the aacd, but if wheni get my BB i decide to go make my own school, i will choose my own name, and if they dont like it, tough luck however, if i want to open a new under the aacd banner, like a franchise type thing, then they will have the naming rights.
  17. was watching a show called chris angel mind freak last night. this guy doesnt look extremely strong. kinda like a regular athletic build. but the guy lifted a car, and ripped a phone book in half. he said it was all power of the mind. i only caught the last 10 minutes of it but still.
  18. ok, i admit it, i am jackie chan.... seriously tho. i wouldnt be surprised if there were some big Martial Artists here. i doubt you would get any of the movie making MA people on here, but i wouldnt be surprised to see some of the big masters at there place late at night checking the forums. people say "my instructor is 3 down from " im sure you have mentioned these forums to your sensei, then they pass it on to theres etc etc. then the master is told "there are all these people talking about you on KF" i wouldnt be surprised if they check it out. i dont think they would post but they are out there looking.
  19. them putting there hads up in a fighting position means that they are preparing to make an attack, which to me is the same as them throwing the first strike. if this happens then i will be ready to strike first. granted, i havent actually had any real combat experience.
  20. yeh, i know that, but being proficient at jump kicks has helped me develop a good leap which is going to make any jumping technique easier for me.
  21. basically, if your are doing 2 activities, what will happen is that it will take twice as long to become as proficient in both as it would to do so in 1 activity if you spent the same amount of time as you spent on the 2 together. this will be the same regardless of the activity.
  22. sometimes in class, sensei or sempai will take us through some advanced kata just for something different. i love the jump in empi, being former TKD with a jump kick specialty, i can usually get it pretty close.
  23. yeh, they should atleast try to use practioners of same size and skill level
