my mum calls me a demic! Well the doctor says i Don't have tonsilitis which is a relief, i just have a virus and a bit run down. He also prescribed me a tubligrip bandage for my knee.

I have never heard of that either. Can vikings and medievil knights really have martial arts training, i didnt think in them days it existed??

My dad first took me to karate when i was 8 in 1985 i trained for a while then my parents divorced and we moved away. At that point i wasn't really bothered and didn't go back until my early teens. Again i gave it up and ended up having children and never went back to training until i was 28. Luckily karate always stayed with me all these years and i never lost interest, it shows it's a part of me. The main reason for starting in the first place was for self defence because i was bullied badly in school. Now i train because i want to keep fit and basically karate gives me confidence and passion...i just love it!!

New beginer thats spot on i think. I have a problem now though. I think i have contracted tonsilitis, my throat is very sore making it difficult to swallow and i have a dreadful headache. My friend has been living with me and she has it. I found out recently that it is contagious throught sharing cups ect. I can't pin point anywhere i may have done that, but its highly possible since we have been living together. I feel quite ill and drained why did this have to happen now. I'm going to the doctors this morning hopefully he can help. Can anyone suggest a 'pick me up'?

Yes talking to your doctor seems to be the best route and then talking to your instructor. We have a big notice in our dojo that if a karate-ka has any health problems to see a gp to have a full medical. I'm sure you'll be fine, good luck with that.

I said karate kid when i started the thread! I have the full collection on DVD and i never get bored of watching them!

This doesn't sound good to me either. Our karate classes are for an hour and we warm up for 10 minutes before hand. I think they are not taking the TKD very seriously which is a shame really. Like someone else says you are not getting what you are paying for. I would look elsewhere. Good luck!

Hehe thats funny. I had a great lesson tonight. I didnt get told off once. I worked so hard i have never sweated so much, you could wring my clothes out like a wet cloth Sensei didnt tell me off once so im well happy. Yipeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee roll on friday

We dont hear a lot really about ninjitsu here, mainly ju-jitsu, that seems quite popular, are there any similarities?

You know i kinda felt a little intimidated last night when he was telling me off. Every time i do a ushiro-geri i tend to pull the back of my knee and i told him and he said 'no excuses'.

I think with all arts you can always defend yourself in the street in a real life situation, but i agree with the rest of the advice it's down to the teaching of the style and you of course, which ever style suits you best will be the one that helps you out on the streets should the situation occur. Thanks for the replies everyone. It all makes sense and i will put my all into it. My Kia's were weak also last night and sensei said 'your a 2nd kyu, where are your shouts?'. I really wouldn't have minded another three months, it was just that after he said i could grade he said i wasnt powerful enough which is what got to me really. But when i think about it he must think im good enough otherwise he wouldn't let me do it. So all i have to do now is impress him, thats vital. I have never failed a grading before and i dont intend to start now!
