the karate kid part 3
Shotokan-kez replied to PlasmaShock's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
Try https://www.choicesdirect.com. They have great discount DVD's. I bought mine on single dvd's from ebay one at a time, so the third is out there! But i must agree with the others, a box set would be easier lol. -
Well done jiffy on your 1000 posts and your forum black belt!

I'm jumping ahead here from what your talking about...but does walt and micheal really escape the island. I know at the end they let them go in the boat. But are they really going home? Do the come back into it? And what did they do with walt all that time?

Cheers guys i am feeling a lot better about things. I still have a slight lingering cough but other than that the cravings are getting better. I am feeling much more positive.

Hi there. Maybe your mum is just looking out for you. She may have a point, and like alsey says if you wait for your black belt in ju-jitsu you will have a good grounding ready to start in karate. Why do you have loads of free lessons?

The True Martial Artist
Shotokan-kez replied to PlasmaShock's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
Well said Brandon, i agree with you totally!....And everything else on this thread. There is nothing worse than a Martial artist with no respect. -
Woohoo the course was great today. It was totally on take downs and kumite. Brilliant! I even got to work with one of the sensei's and i had great pleasure in taking him down lol. I have taken an injury though to my left wrist, it has swollen and i can't even softly touch it. I'm wondering if there is a sensitive spot on your wrist, the swelling is near the knobbly bone of the wrist (sorry best i can explain it), the soft part just under that bone.....it's very sore. I didnt win my kumite bouts but overall it was a great session....bring on the next one!

Accepting back past students to the dojo?
Shotokan-kez replied to Shotokan-kez's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
I'm not going to make him go to class if he doesn't want to go, some people (child or adult) are meant for MA and some aren't. Whats the point in making our kids unhappy by forcing them to do something they don't want to do? I would love my son more than anything to be an exceptional martial artist and gain his black belt and much more, but thats for my own selfish reasons and not his own. I know in my heart it's something he likes but doesn't take seriously and if he wants to stay home and play with his friends then i support him. -
Yeah that is really cool Cathal!
-
We don't really learn jump kicks in our club, i don't know if thats shotokan in general or just our club that doesn't do them. Although there is a double front kick in kanku-dai and lots of big jumps in other kata's, just no jumping kicks!
-
They do tend to get harder as you climb the ranks. What grade are you now? Just keep at it, i was having the same problem with 1st kyu but i just practised, practised and practised more...it'll all be worth while in the end.

Suits you down to the ground! -
Depends on the course really Bushido, all clubs are different, depends on what the sensei has decided to do. If we concentrate on one or two kata's then we will do the bunkai as well. I've no idea what he has in store for us tomorrow though, just know i'm looking forward to it.

Accepting back past students to the dojo?
Shotokan-kez replied to Shotokan-kez's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
He didn't go to the newer school in the end because the instructor wouldn't take him back. He stayed where he was with me, we agreed that he just train once a week and see how he goes with it. He seems to be doing okay and enjoying it more. Sometimes though if he's playing outside with his friends he doesn't want to come, i don't force the issue and let him stay home if thats what he wants. You hit the nail on the head there, i think he does only do it to please me so i never force him to train if he doesnt want to. -

Yep the karate kid soundtrack does exist i have it and it's great to train to, and so is the rocky four soundtrack. I agree with Cathal with eminem he's great. Good luck with the tournament -
Yes hawkfish this is how i decided too, i vowed if i passed 1st kyu i would...and i did so i have. I have a terrible cough now, all the gunk coming up shows my insides are clearing. I'm still a little irritable and the poor boys are getting it aww bless. Luckily my eldest is understanding. Like you as well i got a lot of cramp during training.

Ha 60, i was going to say earlier that he may have been too old to do more.....when did he loose his teeth? -
Woohooooooooo very original Love ya really
-
Yep thats right Alsey. With some clubs they vary on how long they last...some clubs do them for four hours, i think i would collapse if that was our club lol. Basically they are for black and brown belts and they concentrate on a set thing. Sometimes it will purely be one advanced kata ie unsu, kanku-dai, jion ect. I think the last one our club did was soley on Unsu. I'm not sure what we'll be doing on sunday. Other times it will just be kihon basics or kumite. I'm also pleased to announce that our courses are free!

Kata is sooooo important as far as im concerned. Ok maybe it isnt used much in fighting, but when we do the bunkai i find it very effective. Kata is my most favourite thing in karate..i love it. Kata has helped me so much in so many different ways, mind, awareness and strength ect.

Accepting back past students to the dojo?
Shotokan-kez replied to Shotokan-kez's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
We had a new little fella in on wednesday. The little guy was shy, nervous and a little scared. The warm-up took much longer because sensei was talking through every single exercise, telling him how it should be done, why and showing him how to do it in detail. The higher grades go along with this whole-heartedly because we all know we were there once, we all supported him and smiled at him ect. This is how it should be i think. -
Oh alsey im so glad my own sensei is part of our own brown belt course's, i think i would be petrified otherwise. hehe
