Hello welcome to KF. No matter how many times you move you can always call KF home. LOL...

Don't sign. Teaching is about trust. I understand the Sensei needs to know he will have studensts but to tie you to him is wrong.... IMO.... If you do sign make sure you have an out clause. Such as moving, sickness (can't train for 2 months broken arm), school, work changes, and so on. I would never tie myself to someone. If he or she is a good teacher the students wil stay because they love him or her not because they have to.

Help! I need to lose 10-15 pounds for a fight in 2 months.
G95champ replied to Shay415's topic in Health and Fitness
Don't lift weights that will add muscle which you can loose fast. Run a lot more and drink water. Loosing 10-15lbs is not really that hard it can be done in a a few weeks. I would say loose 15 then start lifting again and try and put 5 back on. That way you won't feel weak.... -

G95champ replied to drunken monk's topic in Choosing a Martial Art, Comparing Styles, and Cross-Training
This happens a lot. You need to just get info on TKD and Kung Fu and fit them together yourself. Your teacher should be able to tell you who influenced him. My second Sensei did this as well with TSD, Hapikido, Kung Fu, and a bit of TKD he called it American TAO Karate. Congrats I have never seen KickChick without a link. Must be Friday the 13th. O it is......................... -
welcome to KF....

Upon making my blackbelt my Sensei left the JKA. So although I trained and still teach under their guidelines more or less I am not a member.

Leave it on the field. O yeah this is karate again. LOL I mean leave it on the floor. Or leave it in the dojo. Go all out, do everything as fast and as powerful as you can. Don't have any regrets. If you fail don't fail because of effort. Best of luck you will do fine. Football Season Man Im pumped. LOL

WWF Wrestling yes. Wrestling came from the Greeks. There is not ture American MA. Because like "Americans" we come from every race, religon, ethnic background, county, etc. Americans are a mixture of people from all differant lands. If there is an American MA it is the idea of cross training. America loves to take the best from this and the best from that and make a new product better. So IMO the only American MA is the mix of others.

When I do kata I zone out. I don't think of anything. I don't know what to tell you. Its a mental problem more so than a physical one. If I had to guess I would say you are more worried about messing up and who is watching. Like I tell my football team its ok to mess up if your going hard and doing your best. Just relax...

Welcome. You can pick my brain but stay away from my nose. LOL

Yeah I hate breaking the bad news to them as well. However it must be done. I live by the saying if you never loose you don't know whats its like to win. I have learnd so much more from a loos than I ever have after winning. The one thing that I always think about when I am having to fail that person. I say to myself do I want them living and thinking theya re better than what they are. That sends out a bad image on them, on me, on my style, on my teachers and my other studnents. We have guidelines we must hold up or the rank we wear and out teachers wore mean nothing.

We do that in Shotokan. It makes you feel stronger and faster but if ti does I don't know.

To all adult Martial Artists in America!
G95champ replied to TigerKorea's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
If its something you enjoy you will make time. Most Americans only work 8hrs a day some 12. Most of us have a lot of things we get into in our free time. Be it MA, church, sports, hobbies, and so on. American is the land of plenty remember LOL.... -
Welcome to KF. Im sure you will.

How long do you stretch/warmup for class?
G95champ replied to koreantiger81's topic in Instructors and School Owners
Anywhere from 5 to 15 mins. Mondays we usually go a bit longer because of the weekends. It also depends on what I plan on doing. If we are going to spar I stretch more. If we are going to work SD not as much. I have seen many classes that spend 90% of their time doing push ups and set ups. I really disagree with thes. People pay me to teach them MA not to do pushups. -
It don't happen. When you lift you build muscle. Muscle is much more heavy than fat. So you may look slimmer but you will gain weight on the scales.

are there any forums dedicated to ONLY hapkido?
G95champ replied to SD's topic in TKD, TSD, Hapkido, and Korean Martial Arts
Sorry we have broken them down into areas. Feel free to post it in the the Korean section. However General Martial Arts will have some stuff in it as well. We do have several members who have trained in hapkido so just ask and Im sure you will have some help. -
Before you can run you got to walk. Start light, learn control and techinque. Its really easy to get gun shy. If you can not block and try and go hard you are going to get hurt. As far as point sparring I dont like it. However its a great way to start. If you hit someone with a kick or punch as hard as you can it hurts. Pads or no pads. Never do it to a classmate. Thats what heavy bags are for.

No big change. I think most Americans are like that. Im sure the ones in the big cities like NY, Chi, Dallas, LA, DC, etc do somethings more differantly but on the whole we do things Sept. 10th 2002 as we did them Sept. 10th 2001. Terrorism can not break the will of the American people.

If you had to do another art....
G95champ replied to ZeRo's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
Well I am in the process of learing a few more Shotokan kata. So I got a long ways to go. I can do a lot of that on my own with books, tapes, etc... My American TAO training had bits of Hipkido, TSD, TKD and Kung Fu in it. Hipkido would be the one I would like to do. However I did play arround with some BJJ and Judo. Heck I don't care Im game for anything. -
I have saw UFC III many many times. Hackney was one of my favorites in the early days lol. Palms and ridge hands are one thing but I was refering to spear hands, tiger claws, etc. I do agree with what you said however. I also totally agree about he kata thing. Most guys who get in NHB fights are guys that just want to fight. Most people who study karate or kung fu do it for other reasons. If you want to learn to fight karate and kung fu are not the 2 styles to get into because of the time spent in kata, and traditional moves. BJJ, Kickboxing, and other combat styles get much more involved in actually combat much much faster. So a person who is of karate or kung fu training would not be likely to enter a NHB fight because they got in MA for totally differant reasons.

I don't have money to train..
G95champ replied to koreantiger81's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
Geez Im glad WV is such a poor state. LOL. I have never paid more than 40.00 a month for classes. I never charge more than 30.00 a month myslef. Not all us teachers are bad guys I make next to nothing teaching. I make enough to pay the bills to keep the dojo open and thats about it. -
Could have something to do with the gov. of China. They are not big on civil rights and all. Howeve they have always backed athletics in the olympics so I don't know. Only other think I can think of is that most Chinese arts focus on PP strike and open hand strikes. In a lot of NHB events these are BARRED. Which lead to the biggest question why are holds barred in NHB? LOL.
