  1. Jack? Do you run this web site? If not who does? I think this is a great place. I have been looking for such a site over the past few weeks. This one is by far the best I have seen. Thanks and I hope to meet more of you all I have read and learned so much over the past few hours.
  2. I found this site last night and I hope to be arround a lot to learn and socialize with other Martial Artists. I have started training in Feb. 1993 in Shotokan Karate. I advanced to First Dan in May of 1996. I am currently holding my second DAN in Shotokan. In 1996 I started training in another style. This style is called American TAO Karate. The guy I trained under developed it out of several other styles in which he held black belts in. It focus on Hipakido, Tang Soo Do, and Kung Fu. Our kata came from about everywehre however. I advanced to First Dan in this style in the summer of 1999. I also studied some Tia Boxing and Ju-Jitsu. I would love to learn more of these arts one day. I will be posting under the karate section of the board. I hope to meet and learn from you all. 3. Almost all kata can be found in other styles under differant names. I practice and teach Shotokan but I also hold a black belt in a style that was put together based on Tang Soo Do and Hipkaido in which we do several kata that are very close. The reason is basically this. They mostly came from China or one Sensei long ago. Over time his students either forgot a part or changed a part to fit them better. This evolution slowly occurd over time and today we have differant kata that come from the same place. Sort of like Charles Darwin said aobut monkeys and man. LOL
  4. Let me add. My last post sounded like I was Hitler or something LOL. I always start and end class with Master Funikoshi Dojo rules. 1. To seek prefection in character 2. To be sincere and honest 3. To practice courtesy 4. To show strong spirit 5. To control bad tempor I use a lot of quote and saying from General George S. Patton and Vince Lambardi in my dojo.
  5. I have read most of these in several books. Gichin Funikoshi does a wonderful job talking about what karate is and is not. I know we teach and practice a art of nonviolence however as Master Funikoshi said the Phillsolphy of Shotokan is ONE PUNCH ONE KILL..... This does not mean go out and kill people but we teach and practice to end a fight quick. Shotokan is a great style IMO because we don't waste time on fancy moves. The best defense is alwasy a good offense.....
  6. My name is Gehrig Justice. I have been in Martial Arts since 1993. I am a 2nd Dan in shotokan karate and have trained in several other styles. I came across this site and see it as a good way to trade and pass on knowledge. If there are any high ranking Shotokan guys out there I would enjoy talking about our style. My icq and AOL numbers are listed. I will try and come back as much as possible. Thanks to the provider for a fourm like this. [ This Message was edited by: G95champ on 2002-03-30 22:44 ]
