  1. Welcome back and I hope you find out who you were....
  2. Its a mental thing not a physical. You have to learn to control you emotions and put youself in a relaxed state. With time you will get better but you can't let fear win. If its public speaking or whatever you got to set fear aside and prefrom. That is easy to say but its ok to loose or fail if you are not good enough it is differant to loose because you are afraid or nervous.
  3. I saw thsi kid on TV once. Im not a fan of child athlests only becasue I agree you need a childhood. I mean playing with people your own age not being put on a workout program. Still yet it is amazing and I respect anyone who takes the time and efort it takes to get a body like that rguardless of his age.
  4. Yeah its called Kata
  5. I love waiting for the page to load up only to find all the new toys Patrick has set up making. Im like a kid at Christmas.
  6. It comes with practice. We use a bull in the ring drill. Where the class circles a person and when I call a persons number they attack with a punch. (ONLY ONE) This could come form anywhere. The person in the middle has to ID the attacker and try and block the attack.
  7. How often and how long are we talking.
  8. Any style can win if you have a great fighter doing it. Or should I say any style can loose if you have a poor fighter using it. Sort of like great players make great coaches.
  9. As a coach when I keep picking on a player I see that he is ready to move up tot henext leval. I see somethng in him that he don't see in himself. Maybe this is what is goign on. However he may just like punching, kicking and throwing you too. LOL.
  10. Just depends on where you are and who is teaching. Classes from Chuck Norris are going to cost more than classes from Joe Karate. I am from WV and have never paid more than 40.00 a month for classes. However people on here pay over 100.00 a week. So its hard to really say. Look at the status of your community (rich middles class or poor). See who is teaching and how much other people think of them. Then look at the umber of classes being taught.
  11. practice
  12. Welcoem to KF.
  13. Welcome to KF.
  14. KSN This will make my 1000th post. So now I have really got my black belt in KF. Bowing to everyone.
  15. I have a Social Studies EDU degree but that does not do anything for my karate knowledge. However the classes I took in college that taught me how to handel a classroom gave me insight on how to work a dojo. I am also a football coach and have knowledge with muscles and weights and physcal activey. Just because you are good at something don't make you a good teacher. Just because you know a lot don't make you a good teacher. Just because you got a degree in whatever don't make you a good teacher. To be a good teacher you got to help people uncover their best style of learning and let them learn on their own.
  16. We do have a time limit you must meet. Howver that does not mean you test. I will tell them when they have met their time requiremnts. Then if they are ready cool. If not Ill tell them what they need to work on and set up a personal time line for them.
  17. I may have a bit more insight on this. I am only 24. I began taching HS at the age of 22. I also coach football and teach karate. Students look at me as moore of their friend than their teacher at times. I feel like I don't get the respect of being called Mr. or Coach or Sensei at times like other would who are older. However remember that Respect is earned not give and it will come with age. If you know your stuff and treat people right they will return the favor.
  18. Weight training takes about 2 weeks to get the sorness out. So don't get discouraged. The thing to do as a MA with weights is to always make sure you stretch before and after so you don't loose your flexability.
  19. IMO kata is the most important part of karate. It teaches you everything from SD to balance. You can work on speed, power, techinque, breathing, endurance all at your own pace. You don't need a person to train with. You can do them anywhere and at anytime you see fit. Show me a person who is really good at his kata and I'll show you a really good martial artists. There is a differance in a martial artist and a fighter. There are a lot of good fighters who can't do kata. However every good Martial Artist that can do kata will be a good fighter.
  20. Spoken like a true Martial Artists Patrick. LOL.
  21. We would always use a hand full of blackbelts as Asst. Instructors. Most of the time they would get lessons free or reduced based on how much they helped out.
  22. The height of you kicks should not slow down your advancement. However stretching is very important and the hips and hamstrings are the key.
  23. Last Spring me and KarateKid1975 talked about this for a long time in thread. I think it was called pulled hammey. You may want to look through this section and see what advice others have gave. With that said If you pulled it I would hate to be you. I done it and I slowed me for 6 months. Well I tore mine. A pull is not as bad. Anyway good luck.
