Well its like this. We tried to out law beer in the 20's and people bootlegged it and still got more than enough. The only time it will become leagal is when the goverment can corner the market and sell it. Which is not going to happen because anyone can grow it anywhere. So I don't see it ever being made legal. (US or Can) As far as what people do in there own home. I am fine with that. I wish a lot more would choose to drink at home and not other places because IMO drunk driving lead to way more deaths than any other drug related event. I guess the best situation for law enforcement would be this. Its ok to have it but you can't sell it or use it in public. Kind of like you can't have been open in public or smoke in certin places. People are going to do it and its a loosing battle. If you want it grow it yourself fine. Selling it should come with a HUGE fine and jail time. IMO that is the best way to fight the drug war. With that said don't think I am a supporter of Pot but but I am a realist.

I have never used them but I have learned a few things in my 25 years here on Earth. 1. There is no quick and simple fix. 2. There is a God and I am not him. 3. America is not perfect but its the best out there. So read number one....

Kick height is the key stretching, strength or both?
G95champ replied to aes's topic in Health and Fitness
Both. Howver the key IMO is not leg flexability as much as it is hip flexability. -
Squat kicks Squat down like a catcher in baseball stand up and do a front kick with you left leg. Go back down, stand up and do a front kick with you right leg. Do about 50 before or after class this is part of you burn out at the end. Single Leg Squat Side Kicks Grab a char and use it for balance. First raise the knee then extend the leg in side kick postion. Then pull the leg back under. Then squat as low as you can then come up and repeat. Never set the foot down. Do sets of 10. Helps balance too. Step ups or Bounders Can be done with a box. Step up as you come up bring the leg from the ground up as high as you can think of hitting youself in the chest with your knee. Step back down and change legs. We usually do this on a clock. Say .30 seconds as fast as you can go.

Yeah I know what you mean. I have saw Bassai done about a dozen differant ways and still called Bassai. I figured you were trying to make it more flashy for a event.

Maturing as a Martial Artists???
G95champ replied to karatekid1975's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
Well one of the things I say a lot to my team or class. You can never win if you never loose.... -
Well I don't think I would strike to hurt. I may strike or grab to control and talk some sense into him. However if I could walk I know I would because I have.
-
Attack of the Killer Clowns scared me too. I just don't like clowns if I was ever attacked by a clown I would lock up.
-
May I ask why you changing the kata up? Jittie is my personal favorite kata... LOL
-
Change the moves up and make a combo out of it. First do a round kick, Secondly use that to lead into a spinning thrust kick, and finish with a step behind side kick. Also the roundhose could be replaced with a cressant kick. You could throw the backhand first and then kick you hand like in Heian Godan or Bassai Dai.

Maturing as a Martial Artists???
G95champ replied to karatekid1975's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
I hear ya KK75. I always tell my classes that one day it will just click for you. Sounds like it did for you. A true sign of a person is how they respond when they are forced into leadership postion. Leaders can step up and take control and although they may not want that responsibility they embrace it because they realize they have to or they will let the class and other people down. I would tend to think you were being tested more so than anything by you Sensei. One of the things I do with my Sr. students who get to teach some is I play (stupid kid). They teach anything they want to teach and I take class as a regular student and I goof off. Anything from getting moves wrong on purpose to hitting people and not paying attention. I like to see how they can handle it. Sounds like you passed the test. Good job.... -
Well you could do a knife hand chop - bring it from you ear and chop at the neck. Then you could replace it with a sequence like like Heian Sandon or Jion. What about throwing round house kicks and landing in the horse stance. using the same motion as the chop you could throw a body hook punch or round elbow. I have tons of other fancy things running in my head but its hard to put them into words LOL. Let me know if this helps if not I can try and type it out. LOL.

Judo Throws in Self-Defense.
G95champ replied to JKDfreak's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
hahaha man that would be weird! This is why I like striking better. Really to depend on throws and grappeling for SD is ok but keep in mind to make them work you have to come into contact with the attacket. As opposed to striking where you can keep your distance. -
You mean if I were keeping the same kata patten but just changing that strike? Do you want to stay in the horse stance still yet?
-
would you consider this a mcdojo?
G95champ replied to Sid Vicious's topic in TKD, TSD, Hapkido, and Korean Martial Arts
I love the term McDojo. LOL. I had never heard it till I became a member at KF and every time I hear it, it cracks me up. LOL. -

Why is grappling so good?
G95champ replied to rabid hamster's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
Its not that grappeling is so good but its the new thing. Most American dojo teach stand up fighting. Thanks to the UFC and other events it is gaining popularity. Its just like the new style eveyone wants to do it. No it is not better than other MA but it is not worse either. Any art is what you make of it. -
Pain lets us know we are still alive. LOL. Its not that anyone likes pain but pain is like cold. If you don't let it bother you can put it off till later. Pain lets us know we are still alive. LOL. Baseball really turned me off this year with talks of a strike but I am glad to see a team who has never won it before win. Add to that I don't care for Bonds.

Im not a big scary movie fan because well Im chicken. However if I had to rank them nothing and I mean nothing to me is more scary than Clowns so ...... IT is number one.
-
We will swing a bag and work pushing or sweeping type blocks while moving and dodging it. Its not as good as sparring but if you alone you do the best with what you have.
-
Well I see it like this Karate SD uses a lot of open hand and PP strike. Meaning if you really spar with them you hurt someone. I did full contact sparring in HS and college and my karate did ok for me. Yeah I lost but anytime you fight you loose. I also won a few. However I know at any time if I hit the guy I was working out with, with a palm instead of a boxing glove I would have killed him. So take it for what its worth. Anything you do and do right will work. I too did cross train in college but to say it made me a better fighter I don't know. It made me a more rounded martial artists but as far as fighting there are only so many things you can do with you arms and legs. With that said karate will give you a solid base. However if fighting is what you are after then don't go into a karate dojo because we teach how not to fight by learing to fight.
