I agree Religon is Faith and Science is fact. However most will argue that science takes something like the BIG BANG and says its fact. It may be but we don't know that for sure. So its still faith. I honestly feel science is a religon. Most religons are tied to some sort of great thinkier. Jesuse, Budda, Mohomad, Zoroaster, etc..... So Religon, Science, and Phill... are much close than most think IMO.....

I would love to see him gone. I am not againt an attack however I really dislike the fact every news station keeps talking about it. I do think we need friends. I mean we got the man power to go it alone but it needs to be a UN or NATO move not just an US. Before anything is done we need an endgame. Who will take over after he is gone and what is the time line. If CNN, Fox News, ABC, CBS, NBC, and everyone else would shut up we may be done by now. When we land and our boys get killed Im blaming CNN for showing Iraq our plans.

Anything that tries to answer the 5 big question is IMO religon. 1. What is the nature of Man? 2. What is the nature of Society? 3. What is the nature of Nature? 4. What is the nature of the Universe? 5. What is the nature of God?

Tobias My greatgrandfather was from a wealthy family in Michigan thus they had good reccords. However my aunt works at MSU. A guy came in to do research on his family and our branches crossed. So he done all the footwork for us. Sort of lucky I guess. Wish I could help. Since then my aunt has been working back the other side of the family tree and much like yours there is no reccords. We suspect because she was from a poor family.

"Starting a dojo" Version 20,059.2 (Zak's question
G95champ replied to ZakariRu's topic in Instructors and School Owners
1. Start up captial. Just depends on where you are. A dojo in LA will need more money than a dojo in Montanna. Ask arround in your area and see what rent and stuff is for things like Dance schools and go from there. 2. Rank? Although its just a piece of paper you would not believe how good it looks on the wall. Give you credit as soon as people walk in. I would talk to both my teachers and check your reccords of each test date and get a certiface for each drawn up. 3. Time I did not. I got a BA in Edu as well. I taught durring college. I taught at a YMCA on Saturdays. Yeah just one day a week. I had 3 classes. Man was i beat. LOL. I also was a Asst. Teacher at a dojo at college. Again this is just up to you. Depends on everything from class times to numbers. I taught a lot of private lessons so you may want to just start with that. 4. Cardio Karate/tae bo. Unless you can do it I would not. If you need money I say do it this way. Get a studnet (girl) you trust and make her a co instructor. Dont charge he for classes if she taches that for you. 5. Orginization I never did certified by the JKA or ISKA or any other Shotokan group. Again it just depends. It looks nice but at the same time it is not a must. I am in WV and really no major group is close to me. However if I could get to one in a few Hours and interact I would do it. 6. Insurance I use play at your own rish. I have them sign an agreement I had a laywer draw up. When I taught at the YMCA they had insurance but now Im on my own and I do not have it. 7. Would you train under a 18 year old shodan, who is an international competitor (on the AAU jr national team at 16)? I personally have no problem with it. However a lot of people do. I started taching when I was 20 or so. However I did a lot of one on one and private classes. Plus I spent some years as a Asst. Instructor. However if you are going into EDU you have a leg up on most people. But your youth like mine will cost you older studensts at first. forgive spelling/grammer errors im going to bed =) I will if you will -
One thing I know for a fact you can not fake emotion. If you try it looks bad ans sloppy. You don't need to shout to have emotion.

I agree Techinque is the most important in punching and lifting. The best way to build punching power is to hit stuff. LOL. Sound to simple right? Buy a heavy bag and just hit it. Power is a result of Speed and Techinque. However hitting air is much differant than hitting something that has mass. So if you want powerful punches and kicks just get a bag and hit away. As far as bench press. Im a football coach and work with HS boys all year. So I think I can speak on this. Lifting heavy will not hurt you. Unless you do it every day. Do not max out every day. In fact just max like twice a year. By lifting heavy I say do 4 sets of 4 at some weight about 25-30lbs below your max. I would go heavy one day and light the other. Say 4 sets of 12. The key to getting strong is to shock the muscles. Change your workout up about every month. So the muscles don't get used to it. It also stops you from getting burnt out. As far as how much you should lift just depends. I have 2 8th graders that bench over 200lbs last year. However I got Sr's that can't get 200lbs now. So ht, wt, age, body size, etc. all play a big part in that. To each his own....

No. Which I think is a huge credit to my training. In 8th grade I was in 2 fights at school. I began training in 9th grade. I have not been in a fight since. That was 10 years ago. I have been in several situations where I have used Karate to break fights up. Such as chokes, locks, and PP. However I have not used it in anger.

KSN Doug Wow that price range is unreal. Does the Chief Instructor of your style come in and test you all?
-
Again the key to people who are not used to speaking. Just talk about what you know. Don't try and teach above your head. Admit you don't know all and just be yourself. As far as nerves go before you test. People ask me all the time if I am ever nervous. I say no. Why? I feel like if I do my best and go as hard as I can it will all work out. Self Confidence is huge!!! Set yourself up to do well by doing what you know and doing it to the best of your ability on that given day. Effort and Heart go a long ways.

Student kicks teacher suffers
G95champ replied to ramcalgary's topic in Instructors and School Owners
No. However I speak with my students a lot. If word gets back to me that they are using what they learn to harm others they are out. Now this may last a week, month, or forever. Just depends on the situation. But I make it clear that they will pay for their actions by not comming back to class. -
When I teach private as I do now I do not charge for tests. They pay for the belt and thats all I make 0.00. When I teach public lessions I charge 15.00 for a Kuy test. This covers belt, certificate, and some for me. LOL. However I don't worry about it if they don't pay. I do charge 100.00 for Dan tests. However I buy them a sword which I present to them as well and a black belt with their name and school name on it. Most of the time we loose 20.00 on a Dan test.

You always have a choice.... When I hear franchise I think one man running several schools. He may have his own school but his top studenst would be in charge of the other branches. If your school is a franchise that means you Sensei would still have all say. I may be wrong but all money would go to him and he would be responsible for all bills and upkeep. IMO this is a good way to get into teaching MA but if you are looking to make a career out of it I sugest opening your own school. Don't become his rival but don't get into MONEY ties with him either.

I have tried to sign up the last 3 days and It keeps telling me the service is down. I guess I will try again later. LOL. Don't start without me. -
Sensei Harvey would start the young kids with the Tiakyoko but the teens and adults he began on Heian. When I started teaching I had mostly young kids so I choose to teach them to everyone first. I teach Tiakyoko Shodan, Nidan, and Sandan. I have never saw any other. Those are the one's listed in Funakoshi's book. If they are 2 more for Yondan and Godan I would be intrested in learing this if someone can post the moves.
