  1. Because TMA was once a part of MMA. MMA is MIXED martial arts. Obviously if you take the best parts of all the different styles, you're going to be a far better fighter than if you just trained in one. Whie the popular styles in MMA dont seem to be so traditional (BJJ, Muay Thai, Boxing, Wrestling, Judo) there are some fighters who incorporate traditional styles into their regiment of training. In terms of realness, UFC and Pride are as real as it gets. Now as far as not fighting these type of people in the street, thats not a good way to look at things. Its like a highschool football player who doesnt lift weights every day, because hes not playing against NFL levle players, or a baseball pitcher who only throws a fastball and a curve ball, because hes not pitching to major leaguers. Basically what Im getting at is that by being at the level these guys are, any fight they get into with someone who's NOT one of their peers is going to be a joke of a fight for them. I see your point, please give others to strentghen your statements. I understand that its not the real thing and its the closets youll get, however its not even actually close to real life. Just because its more real doesnt make it close to real, thats what i have been tring say. I also dont see how MMA is so effective, I trained in muay thai for a year and a half and faught people around the city. I seriouly think its over rated, but thats only using me as a statistic but its all i know really.
  2. I did once lol, it was a female officer and i said "sir", and realized what i said a couple minutes ahead lol.
  3. actually i would have to admit i think the average boxer would beat the karate guy. However i think it would be a different story with a higher ranking experianced karate guy.
  4. Ok why is MMA looked up to more than TMA? Also i think any competition uincluding UFC are so far from being realistic mainly because yuor not going to be fighting these types of people not just the rules, i understand it would be ilegal and its good the way it is, but i dont think UFC just because its more realistic should be compared with real life...(because it really just doesnt compare).
  5. But it doesnt really matter if the technique is designed to be fatal its how the technique is carried out that will make it fatal, so like its been said a billion times before all martial arts can be fatal.
  6. Wow thanks for the info , however i dont see how people think its close to a real situation. Even the people you would fight on the street are differetn with different intents...
  7. Yep when i took muay thai for a 1 1/2, that happened once...
  8. What i meant is that i dont find grappling very entertaining, i didnt say i doesnt take skill. O yea and shotokan doesnt use pretty stuff, like most other martial arts, its just they train differently which can be misleading...
  9. Good point, but that goes with like everything else so its nothing new.
  10. i know exactly what you mean, ive almost lost all interest.
  11. That was a good post, i agree. Actually im gunna thank you for posting that.
  12. Awesome, too bad im not very lucky at catching a good show
  13. Ive been in 6, 3 or 4 of them i could have avoided however this was before shotokan. The rest were pretty intense and i couldn have done much to avoid them ahead of time, however the past seems to like to seep itself into the future. Fortunately i didnt lose any of those serious ones, and manadged to get away with minor injuries. Im glad martial arts came, it really changed things for me.
  14. Ive never seen pride before....is it ever on other than on pay-per view?
  15. I agree but sometimes its easier to talk about the not so deep side of karate sometimes and just the stupid stuff, for me anyway.
  16. Ok i currently have a light gi, and i was wondering what are the benitfits of having a light or heavy gi?
  17. Thanks for all the info!
  18. Eating certain foods at certain times i think can help, but you should be careful who you listen to. My best advice is to refer you to google...
  19. Hey and welcome, i take shotokan karate and i used to take muay thai. However i found my shotokan training was much more rewarding so i stopped muay thai.
  20. Welcome
  21. All exellent points, id just like to say however i find if you just train hard and do what your sensei instructs you, if you ever do enter a tournament youll do alot better than you expected. I know i did, got 1st in kumite and 1st in kata and 3rd in team kata, plus it makes you feel alot better. Sometimes breaking the comfort barriers are really rewarding. But other than that, id follow the advice of what other people said.
  22. True but i find its getting harder and harder to find a real good quality judo dojo out there, because of its commercial success.
  23. Thats a good one! But id have to go with an apple
  24. There are alot of other discussions on this but to answer your question, there is no ultimate martial art. The martial art can define a person, but people ultimately define the martial art.
