You can't just go into the UFC you got to be invited. I say go to the smaller shows around and use your awesome Kung fu against them. You can win! Then you can move up to the UFC and show the world the power of kung fu. Those darn MMA people think only good styles are Boxing, mauy thai (kick boxing), wrestling, and bjj. soon your kung fu will be added to that list. Go get em. I am rooting for you. Remember if Done right no can defend -

MasterH, Yeah I do admit it. It's one of those movies the more you watch it the more it grows on you. I love the part where he talks about his "2 seasons" in the Octagon. Or even better I loved the commerical of rex kwon do on kips tv. "Reflex's of a puma, stregth of a grizzley bear & wisdom of a man" while saying the last part he's head lock choking some women. That was hilirious! -

actually speaking of that it has. Mostly against another drunk Soldier in a bar in korea. LOL! SO it does work. IT would be bad if all I trained in was leathal techniques and killed the guy. I would hate to be at fort leavenworth, kansas. thats the prisons located for those in the military. -

MasterH, Yes its from Napoleon Dynamite? I love that movie. Well actually I thought it was pretty lame. What saved it for me was kip's line to Napoleon "Napolean don't be jealous that I have been chatting with hot babe's on the internet. ALL DAY!" "Besides we both know I am training to become a cage fighter" -Kip I love that quote as well as the Rex Kwon Do scene. That made the movie for me. The rest was kind of lame. kk1975, Yeah I know what you mean, belts are overated IMO. although having a black belt does open doors for you for teaching and I think other things. Seems if you aren't one no one takes that person seriously. -
Go for it but get teh most you can out of it. Ask the coach questions and really pay attention to the moves and postions and how to make them better. Really focus on learning the postions and doing them accurately and effectively. Focusing on making the better each time. The take down defense and ability to take down as well as the concepts of controling your opponents movement on the ground to pin them is very good to learn. Plus you develop more cordination and good balance. As well as the conditioning is great. Alot of wresters win not that there technique is great but there condtioning is better then there opponents so working both technique of wreslting as well as condtioning will make you that much better. You need to adapt some of the stuff for fighting how to take some one down who is striking you is one thing. Sucks to shoot in on some one and get knee'd in the face.

How long to earn a Black Belt

I Got my 15th Dan Gold emboried black belt. by some wing chun Grandmaster from china. He had all this cool Kanji symbols on it, and my name written in Japense on it. It only took me a week also. alot of you people on here took years just to get a black belt. Your all slow learners huh? Well any way it took me so long (1 week) to earn it becaus I had to wait for the shipping time to get to me. 3,000 plus 4.50 for shipping and handling. It was expensive but I think worth it for the 15th Degree. I mean I hear alot about 7th, 8th, 9th and some 10th degree's. But how many have 15th Degree black belts. NOt many at all. So now I say to you all BOW TO YOUR SENSEI!!!!! -

McBeth, what you stated as to why it would be good is the main point of the combatives. You will find most battle field Scenerio's. H2H is rare. Combatives is in its infacy. Several reason why ground grappling is taught first. 1. Easy to teach and learn. 2. Competitive edge to it to spur on further training. 3. Regulating safety but still test the moves with a resiting partner SAFELY. Alot of striking can esculate and I believe get hurt more then in a ground fighting stage. There for making the soldier ineffective to do there job. Another issue where past programs have failed. 4. Ultimate idea of a soldier in combatives is to be able to function in scenerio training to flow to ranges from weapons to striking to grappling making a more well rounded soldier. 5. Soldier rarely in combat would be with out another person with them a "battle buddy" as the Army calls them. One of the tenants in the combatives program isn't which person is in the guard will win the h2h engagement but who's buddy comes in first with a gun. Next is there basic fight stratgey is three parts. 1. Close the Distance 2. Gain dominate postion 3. Finish the fight. This gives the mind set to engage the enemy. Goes back to the saying I Mentioned in one of my earlier posts. A soldier not willing to go through the door with you is not a real warrior. So focusing on that mentality is important. Combatives helps with that mind set. THere are other many instances it can be used. Especially since alot of peace keeping missions are involved. As well as guarding prisoners or even here in the states, sub duing a drunk Army buddy or MP subdoing a some one who is resistaing arrest. There is many factors that come into play why the program exist. The main idea of the program is to develop the warrior mind set. As well as have a more mixed martial art based program that is designed safely so soldiers can still perform there jobs. A hurt soldier is worthless soldier because he can't function. I hope this clears things up. I don't like the idea of going to the ground in a street fight or battle field scenerio. IF it happens least I am prepared but important aspects is the mind set. Wars are not one by H2H combat. But are won by what it takes to be a good H2H fighter. -

I have been in the army for 2.5 years. Since I been in I seen the program wide spread. The Rangers were first introduced back in 96 to it I believe. You can go check out https://www.moderncombatives.org for more info on that. I am a MACP Level 1 instructor. As well as it is trained and part of the basic tasks and drills. Every soldier that goes through basic trianing gets this type of training as well as well as those who go through the Officer career course, ranger school, sapper schools. Many units are doing it through out he army and it is pushed as army regulation. I screwed up as AR it is covered in training and doctrine. IT is FM (field Manuel) FM 3-25.150 sorry my fault . Game and AR which should be FM. still part of Army's combatives. About yoru seal friend. They fall under the Department of the Navy. So diffrent branch diffrent needs. -

McBeth, MACP (Modern Army Combatives Program) It covers grappling, striking, as well as weapons training. It is official Military Doctirne covered in (Army Regulation) AR 3-25.150 Combatives Program is having great Success compared to the other pre-equisting programs. It is taught very heavily in the Rangers regiment, as well to new recruits in basic training, also to Infrantry Officers career course. As well as unites are supposed to be practiing it weekly. So yes it is official military Army doctrine! -

Nino "elvis" schimbri is the one from what I heard who cointed the term gogo plata. only sub eddie bravo really is well known on is the twister which really wasn't picked up in the mass Jiu Jitsu circles until he made it famous by wining matches and tournaments with it. Not that he invted it though. Most of Eddie's stuff comes in how he transition from postions to the subs, how he keeps every thing tight and sets the subs up so well so the persn doesn' thave tomuch time to escape is what I like about bravo's style -

Hansen, Actually current program of the Army combatives program is BJJ based. Being grappling the starting point later on solider is more entegrated with striking from boxing, mauy thai, as well as learning wreslting, judo, and filipine kali/arnis fighting. being able to flow between weapons training striking and grappling ranges. biting and eye gouging, and groin shots I agree are good tools to have but should not be the primarily the ones focuses on. It is sort of on the same lines as the pressupre point ocultest who are so into the pressure points they loose track of basic skills to defend them selves. It's good knowledge to have but having a good foundating in striking/ hitting besides trying to pin point an d target limited areas. -

royce stuided striking as well so he isn't a pure grappler. YOu wnat to be a fighter you got to go through alot of conditioning, fighters even have sports physcoloigst, nutritionalist and others as well. Not mention intense training schedules. Oh and chuck lidell is a d-1 wreslter, his kenpo is good because of the help of john hacklemann who runs it more like boxing and works hard on the KO punches. as well as he been studing bjj with John Lewis, marc laimon and many other people. He just recently been with eddie bravo a few times. Eddie bravo isn't his primary instructor he's been with the longest. Your not going to win by pure kung fu alone. Most of the fighters push for bjj, wrestling, and boxing as well as muay thai. thats why it was a mma event. Because people got to cross train as well as phyical and mentail conditioning to get where they need to be. -
Defenses against mount.
Adonis replied to Enviroman's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
bridge and and elbow escape are the most common and high percentage moves to getting out of mount. learning to use them to help each other out. bump them do the elbow escape or elbow escape but not working bumb. bumb works good also for putting them into butter fly guard. I use a combination of those. Yeah the back door one isn't a high percentage move in my opinion. Then again depends on the person. akira shoji and what is that other japense guys name who's on takada's team, with sakuraba. I Forgot he has a good back door escape also. -

Not sure I know bjj focus more on the ground compared to aki jiu-jitsu. as well as aki I believe does alot with small joint manipulation which isn't considered as effective when in a commmited attack. -
some guy that teaches ninjitsu. Has put out some books on the subject as well. any one ever here of him before?

You will be fine just push your training and conditioning up more. There are mixed martial art fighters that didn't start until they were 20's and now some are excellent fighters. chuck liddel is 34 years old and is a champ. Randy Courture is 40+ and is considered one of the top guys in the world to fight. so keep training hard and SMART and you wil be fine.
