  1. or ask questions of the instructor as how they make that work with the person not as compliant. Have him do it on you just don't be compliant with it. Either frusterates the person doing the technique and show's they don't deal with resistance very well WHich is what you get in the real world. Or they adjust and make something work.
  2. exactly! Again I will state what I said earlier why take a super soaker to a gun fight
  3. True conditioning is big time part of MMA fighters. But still don't mean it will help him out if he isn't at the same technical level as other fighters. Examining fights and workign with other GOOD MMA fighters will help alot. Doing local events help see wehre he is at what he needs to work on but no matter how good condition he is in if his striking and ground work aren't on the same par as the others he is going to be in trouble.
  4. Not really depends on the students. Progress faster in what way? Rank maybe. BUt skill ?depends on the person. I Seen girls have gracefull movements but still punch with limp wrist and what not and how many times you try to correct them they go back to do that stuff. Nice way to break a Hand! I don't care what people say size, speed, and strength do MATTER! It all depends on the person and how well they perform the techique. Some guys have the strength but also focus enogh to do use there body right to be able to take advantage of technique and stregth. I know some women who learn to rely on the technique becaue they don't have the stregth and I know some women who don't. Either way its up to invidual not about a particular sex.
  5. just learn to tap. Remmber if you tap they let go! lol!
  6. I agree with his post as far as if you examine what you want then pick the art and the instructor who's teaching methods are geared to what your looking for. As well I agree with the point that don't look down on all arts. There some good practioners out there and people shouldn't over look them or what they can get out of them.
  7. demo's are designed around a compliant partner working with you. So of course some one is going to look good doing the demo. Better off watching them live against some one who is resistaing and trying to fight back and see how well they make there techniques work. That will give you more insight then watching the demo.
  8. True but in some cases bravo is a genius because how he sort of re-events old moves. I mean that stuff been around in wrestling but you don't see others doing it until after bravo did the moves. and wrestlers been in submission gave for awhile before bravo came around but no one else gave it much thought.
  9. depends on what level your ground fighting is. Also having good training partners. Just limiiting your self to kung fu and some technical level doesn't match up compared to the other fighters. Your going to be in trouble.
  10. Yep, Just he prefers to strike and isn't known in his fights for trying to go for submission. So becasue of that his ground game is really under estimated by alot people.
  11. They don't progress faster. Its about the invidual. They may do certain things better then some one else. But that goes for any one.
  12. Don't get me wrong I think Matt Hughues was a decent coach I guess. I prefer Randy or Chuck though.
  13. I agree it appeared that both Chuck Liddel and Randy courture were better coaches, then Franklin and Hughes. Thats at least my opinion.
  14. not really depends on who's teaching the weapon arts. Look at Some filipino stick fighting arts. They teach stick first and how you can use those motions to empty hand fighting even if you don't have the weapons. So depends on knowledge base of the instructor. Definetly just check out he local gyms and dojo's and see which one you like the best and are more comfortable with and go for it!
  15. I just checked out the younwha school at UMR. I particpated in the class and I had a good time. Thanks younwhagurl for the info.
  16. Matt Hughes is sick! Seems to be a good coach also. Any one watch TUF 2 lately?
  17. according to his previous titles he did well in Sumo just wasn't good for MMA
  18. Sauzin, I agree with your post 100% Very nice!
  19. I just read your post not every one elses. So this has probably arleady been said. Who you going to let down. Your sensei, some friends, other people? The training is for YOU! So do whats best for your self. Your not sure if you can make the moves work then spar with other styles. I am sure you can find friends who have boxed, or wrestled or studying something else before. Maybe make a club and work out with each other see how you guys do with each other and how to deal with each others technique. As far as learning other stuff after you have a good base in your style. (Usually black belt you should have the basics down and a good base) go check out other avanues for your training. Good luck in your trianing
  20. emanuel Yarbourgh against a japense takaese was funny to watch in Pride. I think that was the same sumo who went against Keith Hackney in the UFC Emanuel is freakin HUGE!!!!!!!!! He lost both of his fights in the UFC and Pride.
  21. in the styles you do good luck! LOL! Unless we went to areobic kick boxing or yoga or something not alot of ladies go to bjj, or boxing, or wreslting classe, maybe find some in judo, who knows. more higher percentage would be in styles like taekwondo,
  22. How often is ground fighting covered? Is it when both are on the ground or one person on the ground the other standing up? Or is it like submission wrestling or BJJ class which makes up for the ground fighting? Yeah sounds cool I will check it out . -Jeff
  23. Its hard to find a "qualified instructor" because certificates and belonging to orginizations doesn't quite mean they are a good instructor. Just find one y our comfortable with and where you feel satisfied with the training your getting and how it meets your goals for doing the martial arts.
  24. Trick the bad guy into going onto the "small world after all" ride that would get any one to sucide them selves practically. After hearing that song over and over again going on that slow ride people are bound to sucide themselves. LOL!
  25. Oh thats at good times too. I will go check that out. What does the style teach or consit of? I saw the website but it wasn't quite clear on there. Do you all study in ground fighting?
