ways to beat someone bigger
Adonis replied to Maddwraph's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
you need to work out with more MMA fighters Hapkidoblackbelt. Let me know how bottom mount works out for you after you do that. I agree with subgrappler its the worst place to be in. -
Don't over train and burn your self out. Gi is fun you got to work on defense more because of collar there is more subs available to your opponent. No-Gi you got to play tighter and work more offensively. Both are fun and you learn alot from doing either one. Depends all on who your teacher is and how technical he teaches and how well you pick up the technicalities of the moves. Good Luck

What is the 'deadliest' martial art?
Adonis replied to Sengra's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
glock fu I hear is pretty deady -
Idea of learning on your own is to take a planned out routine. If you want to learn from books thats fine, but you do need a partner to test them out on. You don't necisarrily need a sensei just a good partner who offers good feed back to you and vice versa. Bring a note book and after each session write down details of techniques that you picked up on your own as to how to make them work better. as well as writing down what you did good and what you need to work on. Then next training session pick one thing from the list you need to work on and drill it, drill it, drill it. good luck in your training

aikido a grappling art?

what about the Ninja's? Its all about the Ninjas you know! -
Loyalty to a dojo has its place. BUt mostly because students jump around alot and don't really understand how to use what they are learning. Now adays there are intructors who push for loyalty so they can keep students ignorant of other schools and keep you and your wallet at there school. Obviously you mentioned you want to be a better more well rounded fighter. So go to the other guys school. Let us know how your training is going over there.

I usually don't mention martail arts training because of that fact. -
I understand what your saying it isn't my thing either very rarely do I buy a magazine and I never had a subscription. I usually prefer grappling magazine my self because thats what I am into. How ever every now and then I will glace at an article or two in BBM but I usually skim through it real quick and put it back on the shelf unless I see an article or other stuff on it thats worth buying it. More often then not it isn't worth buying in my opinion.

Black belt covers diffrent styles or people in there magazine. What ever the hype is at the time. MMA/UFC/TUF/PrideFC or Krav maga, Dillman, USSD guys or other people or styles. I agree it isn't really indepth though. Most stuff in there about UFC or MMA in general has already been out on grappling mag a couple of months earlier. So Black belt Mag is behind the times in my opinion.

rubber guard?
Adonis replied to Adonis's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
Twister is a move eddile learned in Wreslting which was called the guiliontine since we already use that word for the frong head lock choke move in jiu-Jitsu Jean Jeac Machado called it the twister. The twister is a head spine lock or neck crank move. where yhour on side control of your opponent but both legs are under your opponents leg and triangle locked around there far leg. you are on your side on the ground and one arm under ther head grasping your other hand and pulling the head up and into your body creating a painful spine lock. Takes awhile to develop the move. Eddie Bravo has used it very sucessfully in competion from blue belt and up and has done well iwth it. Check out his site THETWISTER.TV to see more info onit. -

Defenses against mount.
Adonis replied to Enviroman's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
TJS, I use that mount escape also quite often. Works well! The back door one I am not very good at. I am missing detailson how to use proper leverage and timing to get out of mount using that type of escape. -
training in Missouri?
Adonis replied to Adonis's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
Never checked it out where is it at? Do they have any classes going on tonight? (friday) if so I will go down there and check it out. -Jeff -
I agree with elbows and knees post 100% Its hard to play no gi with out the under hooks/over hooks and head control. Thumbless grips are important also. Got to play tight and control your opponent. The jacket is used in Gi training to control but in no-gi to main tain good control. Gripping onthe head or using the Under hook/over hooks is key to control your opponent. Controling the movement or limited the movement of your opponents body and limbs is key to set up the subs so the opponent does escape easily.

I like Eddie Bravo's moves. Chris Brennan is good also. Marcello Garcia and few others. Just workon playing tigher. From the guard going for arm locks squeezing the knee's and hips up help with the arm bar. Plust when putting the leg around the head keep less space as possible keep every thing tight. No-Gi is alot faster so working on cardio and applying your weight helps. Keep practing you wil figure stuff out. Just remember to play TIGHT by not allowying much space between you where your applying the sub.

training in Missouri?
Adonis replied to Adonis's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
Hey John, what did you think of training on sunday? It was okay but matt likes to roll all the time. I like to also but I use it more as away to see what I need to work on. I think drilling technique is just as important if not more beneficial to learning. -

So we pretty much agreed on chuck liddel. From what you wrote it was pretty much the same thing you quoted me on. Royce has trained in other disciplines so weather or not he feels that he is pure bjj fighter. I am sure the other arts he studyed had an impact in his fights in some form or the other. -
Chuck Liddell: Underrated Grappler?
Adonis replied to UseoForce's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
Chuck Liddel is excellent grappler. His submission ability against top competion he goes against is unkown but regarless of that. He is an outstanding grappler. Chuck said an interview on spike TV he prefers to use his grappling abiality to stop take downs or to get back up if he does get taken down. He has proved that in his fights. Heck even look at mat Hughes he does well on his back also by playing guard. -
