  1. yeah but when you go do that "hold on" thing you mentioned it isn't just holding on and doing nothing your going for something. to put pain or disable the attacker. if you just hold on the person and do nothing with your postion or your postion then you deserve to get beat by the attackers friends.
  2. there are ground techniques. Hey each style has its own stratgey. Thats why styles are in vented, because some one didn't fight like the other person or they have favorite techniques so the instructor taught those. Not every one is built the same or has the same fighting style. If it "WORKS" for you that's all the matters in "crunch" time.
  3. every one is rigt. Seems that its open to interpration. Besides the dictionary defintion. every one seems to have there own opinon as to what a martial artist means to them. There for they are right because it there opinion on what it means to them. even though opinons vary. Its up to the individual's interpration.
  4. True but also fear of looisng fighters for fights. You have a fight for the UFC but say pride offers you a better fight and money for your career. Don't get me wrong UFC is great but I hear pride pays more and mma fighters are more of a celebrity over there then in the US
  5. Oh well! Thats his problem for running his mouth.
  6. a little bit. Him pricing him self out alot has something to do with it. Plus some issues between him and Dana. Tito isn't in a postion to price him self out. Chuck and tito are ahead of him as far as the LHW pecking order. Chuck Liddel and tito did fight. Tito was KO'ed by chuck.
  7. Hey it wasn't no street challange. Trying to be a street thug. He challanged the guy in a tournament. which isn't that bad. Good job on the KO!
  8. agree with andrewgreen! Principles translate to teh ground best to go get better instruction though. Because even though the principles apply its the technique and set ups and combination of princples that count. Or how you apply them or perform them. I agree with other posters I haven't seen any strong level of karate grappling programs unless they bring in BJJ person. Most schools I seen highes they are able to get is purple. More often then not most are blues or white belts with not that much experience or skill lovel compared to there counter parts. As for regular karate programs. Most of the ground techniques come from some guy who did some wrestling some judo or watch some gracie tapes or something. I weather look for specialist. I want to learn take downs I find a good wreslting coach. I want striking I find a good muay thai, boxing coach, and for subs I go for BJJ. Just my opinion. -Jeff
  9. I knew what you ment, by Indian Mafia being from (india) lol! I am suprised they didn't mention others as well. Japense Mafia, and even more of the Italian, Irish, and Jewish mafia rings that were in US.
  10. when you did where did you train at? what do you train in now?
  11. shoot yeah your right. Yeah I was thinking something else for a second thanks for the correction I will go edit it.
  12. some one who practices martial arts. Even from day one can be a martial artist. Or is a martial artist. Some matial artist are better then others. THere are good ones and not so good onest but regarless still a marital artist.
  13. I usually agree with your posts Subgrappler, but the UFC like any orginization is all about politics. Reason why they let tank fight a few times in there. Gave horn a shot for the title at Chuck Liddel and what not when there were others that were more in line nad faught in the UFC more to go for it. IE. Have randy go back at him or chuck. Its also poltics between dana and Tito. Even though thats more tito's fault on the money issues. Either way its all about politics.
  14. the others made sense. I never heard much about Indian mafia. Suprised they didn't mention mexican or peurto rican. oh well. SOunds like an intersting special
  15. depends on the techniques being employed. IF they aren't high percentage moves you can work on alot of resiting opponents your not going to fair to well especially if giong for them leaves you open.
  16. Shogun of Harlem, BJ Penn isn't in the UFC because he had a contract with the UFC not to fight in other promotions. He broke that contract so Dana White President of the UFC had him black balled. Or basically told bj if he appoligzes he would let him back in. BJ wouldn't do that. SO basically it was contract agreements that lead to a dispute in which BJ Penn is no longer ckompeting in the UFC. He does compete in his own promotion from time to time "ROTR" Rumble On The Rock. He probably be fighting in a k-1 mma show, or pride some time soon is my guess. He was awesome. Defeating, Matt Hughes, rodrigo gracie, and Duane "bang" ludwig. What DVD's do you got of his. I only have a Highlight video of him diong some tournaments and then a MMA match he did. what video's you got of him?
  17. Not really you look back in history of martial arts, chalange matches were common. weather to proves one styles or an indviduals techniques. Or to avenge one's honor. So to speak. Either way there is silly fueds among instructors in the states as well as orginzations. How is this any diffrent. Either way the person hasn't really commneted lately on thread. So why were about it.
  18. Yeah me to, but I don't usually go for second hand stories. Either way I have heard simular things as well. Only one I heard who has been good with there teachings is carlos gracie Jr and Renzo gracie.
  19. Yeah I know that about bj but has he since then competed in grappling/or jiu-jitsu events. Mostly he is concetrating on fighting. I would love to see a rematch against Hughes but I doubt Dana would let him back in the UFC any time soon. I have looked into the other guys they are good. I haven't seen Gustavo's instructional tapes. I lived in arizona for awhile and been by his academy and watched the classes and competed against his guys before. He seems to be a very solid instructor and his guys are really good! I plan on going out there and training when I am visting my familiy for two weeks of my military leave next month. You seen some Gustavo's stuff before? What did you think of it?
  20. Yeah I have that also. I am going to go for vol. 1 as well. You know who is also a good teacher. Roy Harris! I never met the guy but I seen one of his instructionals and looked through his site he is very detailed and able to convey the concepts and moves across to some one. You seen any Mario Sperry's stuff before?
  21. Goju_bo, what were the other countries that were on the documentry about mafia?
  22. The guys Jiu-Jitsu is sick! I know he is a fighter and gets paid more for fighting then doing some jiu-Jitsu or no-gi tourny. BUt I still would love to watch him compete in it. Say abu dahbi against roger gracie or against marcello garcie. any one else would like to see that?
  23. Good post I am glad it has done for you what it has done for many others. Good post and I am happy your life is changed because of martial arts for the better.
  24. who was the MOD? Ninja Nurse? Mods on the forum censor any thing the construe as any type derotory or prophane word. Regardless of how tame it is. shaolin bushido. that life threatning argument was a silly one. Since if you read back on the posts he was talking about chalanging the other guy at a tournamnet anyway.
