  1. Its not an MMA match though so it souns like one of those back yard or school yard fights not a sacntioned event so small joing manipulation, groin shots and others are open. Granted the other guy can use them also. I see what your saying though. As soon as I heard his stratgey I didn't think he would fare to well. Thats why i kept saying he probably will end up with a beat down on him
  2. Niel0092, I understand what your saying IF you want some moves to start off the bat. See if any one in your school has wreslting back ground or judo or something. Starting off with take down defense is good. As well as understanding postions on the ground and postional control, escapes, sweeps, and submission set ups and defenses. Either way, gaining some knowledge of grappling is good. Every one has to start some where. You can check some sites that show techniques and vids and what. bjj.org https://www.royharris.com grapplingarts.com onthemat.com there are many many more sites that have good vid's and info on them.
  3. Yeah I agree with white warlock, in that what is it you want? At first you wanted to know some few moves to practice to get back on your feet to thee striking range. So I thought you wanted to learn some basic stuff to stop take downs or to get out of few postions and get back to your feet. Now seems like you just want to start grappling as a new person would. There is a huge diffrence and you are not making it clearn what you want.
  4. True Goju_boi, It all depends.
  5. subgrappler, I could have have said it better my self.
  6. thats good. What style of karate did you do before or still do? I been studying since 2001 but off and on. Since I joined the military in 2003 I haven't been training on a regular basis.
  7. not on the ground. They compliment each other very well but look at the rules. Y ou only have 20 seconds I believe in judo to get a submission so doesn't leave time to set up and work postions on the ground the same level that BJJ does. Also alot of BJJ black belts have black belts in Judo also because of the the throws that are excuted. So each one compliment each other.
  8. Yep, Hopefully just that but who knows right? Either way I have a feeling that the one who made this thread is going to get a beat down. Just my feeling.
  9. I think you should not fight, but I Know its falling on deaf ears since your bent on fighting. How many people think he is going to get a beat down put on him? I am not sure, I know it depends on the fighters attributes and training. I am going for the boxer/BJJ guy though.
  10. subgrappler, boxing4free.com has some good stuff on it. Yeah learning a system would be better. If you look at systems though most people don't use the whole system, just a few good techniques that they can use over and over again. If your stirker you really don't need the whole system of grappling unless your going to compete in MMA events. You just need to take down defense works, recognizing and preventing subs don't need to be good at doing them. As well as working to get escape bottom postions and work back to your feet if thats how a person wants to fight. IF they want to be well rounded though and be able to sub or strike then that is a diffrent story all together.
  11. Yeah I know I was about to write you about that. I read the book and it says Jack won that is why I thought it was wierd when you said jack lost. Maybe your instructor miss understood when he read the book or heard it wrong from some one else. Yeah I like the lock down its hard to get old school I think I have problems with it all the time trying to get postioned so I can get to my knees and turn the opponent over. Its good to use it in combination with the plan b. That is starting to work for me. but some times when the put the weight on me and there knees is not up I have a hard time getting both. So I end up playing a waiting game. How long you been training with Jack? Or Jiu-Jitsu?
  12. thats why we said earlier about defenses against chokes and other subs
  13. I wouldn't bother with the fighting him in all seriousness. Since your not listening to any one else telling you not to fight. At least get a friend to video tape it. If you loose you can at least learn from the mistakes you have made. Either way, I personally think it isn't worth it to get into the fight. How did he come to challange you. Were you bragging about your martial arts abilities or something? Well good luck and I Hope you don't get seriously hurt or seriously hurt some one else. I have a feeling your going to get a beat down though. THAT IS ALL KARATE25
  14. so again how did you get your self in trouble you ran your mouth what you say? Any way yeah I like to offer tips but pretty much I am thinking your going to be getting a beat down. Hey see if you can get it video tapped. At least then you can review it and learn from the mistakes.
  15. I trained under one of Megaton Students also for awhile. A guy named Steve Farnworth. Ask Jack if he remembers steve for me next time you get to see him.
  16. well true white warlock if the grappler had a few months of training and striker been training for years then I wouldn't bet on the grappler at all.
  17. True depends on the fighter and weather or not who cross trainins more as well as physical attributes. around same size usually grappler wins unless striker knows grappling also.
  18. Jack is pretty good I heard. I didn't hear about Eddie going against him at all int he book. I guess I would have to go back and look through it. Jack is a good black belt under Megaton.
  19. glad you had a good time. Yeah drew is a great wreslter and good grappler from what I seen of him. If you can get as much pointers from him as possible.
  20. Don't know! Who is your instructor. Bravo lost alot of times even he admits it but on his twister DVD he only shows one match where he lost and that was with Javier vasquez. Even though he has admited he lost many times through his ranks. Who is your instructor?
  21. thats a big question. wado ryu, shotokan, shoto ryu shito ryu, goju ryu, shorin ryu, there's a bunch of others as well as sub styles from them. I suggest, doing a google search and checking out websites were you can get diffrent history's of the arts as well some of the websites may have pictures of them doing forms or techniques as well as video clips. Good luck
  22. get with wresters and learn how to sprawl in case he shoots in for a take down as well as how to avoid take down from the clinch. Find a grappler learn how to escape mount and and side mount and stand back up quicly to your feet. Finger break, groin shots what ever you can do to win. good luck
  23. I am not very good with take down from the knee's. I usually just poll the persons head down and put my chest on there upper back if they don't stop me I just spin around for the pesons back. Only really works on low level white belts though. Other wise I just pull to half guard or guard especially if the guy is bigger then me. I know others like steping with one leg across to there other side like your going for a hip throw to toss them over. I am not very good at that move and get taken down my self so I stopped going for it. any one have some particulary good moves for starting from the knees. For take downs. I can pull guard that isn't hard to do. I am not a big fan of doing it though.
  24. Bump and roll doesn't always work though. trained grappler can counter that. So two techniques that work in combination would help. Knee/elbow escape along with bump and roll would be good. Learning those two moves is key in my opinion as far as being on the ground because those two hip movemnts are the bases for your escapes from the bottom postion on the ground. The verticle hip movment and horizontial hip momvent. Is must to learn to esacape from bottom postions. Sprawling is a must, as well as pummeling drill and how to strike in a clinch. and just getting up and standing back up. Basic defense against chokes, and straight and bent arm bars. basically I am just saying same stuff TJS and subgrappler been saying.
