Student "busted" back to white belt
Adonis replied to pegasi's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
Thats good the kid stayed with it. Hopefully his behavior changes. Most people would quit. Glad he stayed with it. It depends on the instructors judgement of the student, weather to kick him out or demote or other corrective action. Some look at it that they want to help others out and Martail Arts has done wonders in helping others change for the better. It will be good for him in the long run for his martail arts too since he can go back to the basics and perfect them. -
Is there any Korean arts that cover indepth of ground fighting or grappling. I know korea has excellent judo and that MMA and BJJ are getting big out there, I was curious if any of the other arts, such as Hwarang do, or Hapkido cover ground fighting techniques? I know the TKD/TSD guys do just stand up as far as I know. Unless they cross train.

The 3 facets of grappling
Adonis replied to bushido_man96's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
you also have bicept cutters and calf cutters that are used as pain compliance. Not really a joint techniqaue or choke. How ever, not really realistic outside of sports competion either. -
ps1 has a good idea postion for take downs also by using the L clinch. I never heard it called that before though. Didn't know it had a name. Thats a good one for single legs or high crotches and trips. I find double legs kind of hard to do. Not impossible though. I usually go for them from the clinch and then transition to the side for single leg or high crotch. I am not good at shooting in for take downs so I try to set mine up of the clinch also.

or I will grab the head with one hand. The other has a under hook. I will snap his head down to go for a half a guillotine choke, but I am grabbing my opponets chin with my hand. Then I will take the under hook arm and either reach for my opponents far shoulder or hip. to go into a cow catcher take down by steping back and turning to take my opponent down.

Here is one by Tito on youtube I do a variation like this for MMA. How ever I don't use the gable grip to do the hip throw but go the other way and throw my ghith back into my opponets leg taking them down as I twist. I like that version better. For the one I do for MMA how ever. is also a pull down. 1. I will start in an over hook/under hook postion. 2. the side where I have the over hook I will use that hand to punch into my opponets ribs, where he will drop his elbow to defend. 3. I then pummel my elbow into between his arm and grab my opponets neck. 4. I throw knees, usually opponet will drive forward. 5. I will snap him down to where I can sprawl and go for Guillotine, anaconada, brabo/D'arce choke, or the peruvian neck tie choke. Also can cup the chin and the other arm grabs oppents far hip and spins to side control for ground and pound or work to get the hooks in to take the opponets back.

Don't give up you won't get better by taking breaks. Depression is tough. I get depressed and fursterated all the time. You get moments where you feel your improving and learning alot and feel on top of the world, other times you feel like your not progressing at all. You really are it just take time and effort. Here are some helpful hints. Log in your training sessions. Each and every class. -Bring a note book to class (EVERY CLASS) You will get Ideas and and learn new stuff and forget it later on. So make sure you bring a note book. -Log in every class and how long is the class. Log in what you feel your doing good on and what techniues and attributes you need to work on. Log in the new techniques that you learn as well the key details that make them work. Also log in corrections your instructor gives you on your technique that way you can remember on what to improve. If you do sparring or resistance training with your parneters log in what you get caught in, throws, submissions, ect... that your opponent does and who that opponent is. This way you can track where your weak and where your parnters are strong. If you got time and if your instructor can work with you. Talk to your instructor and put in some private lessons. Make sure to bring your note book and a log in time. You might be filling the pages up quickly so you might want to transfer that to microsoft word to help you track it better. Well I hope these ideas help you out in your training. Just remember alot of people train get frusterated and quit. I have and many others if not all. Have highs and lows with there martial arts training. DON'T GIVE UP! Keep training and you WILL IMPROVE. Practice is the key. So write down what you learn and practice on your off time when your not at the dojo training. Good Training to you.

Your sensei made a good point. Which is true, most likely most martial artist won't get into a fight. Those who frenquently get into fights usually look for it or don't handle them selves well at talking there way, or finding a way out of it. Is there benifits to Kata/forms/poomse! Absolutely. Does it all relate to fighting or is it neccissary to make great fighters? No! So it depends on a persons goals. If you like Kata and it meets your goals as to why you take the martial arts. Then continue on. If it doesn't help meet your goals. Then its time to find new training methods.

Yeah but it was a good strategy by Josh. He was out striking diego, and late in the 1st round he took him down to see how his chances were on the ground. Diego went for a sweep and then took his back before the bell saved Josh. So I don't blame josh from avoiding going to the ground. He already won the 2 rounds why pusht he action in the 3rd when he can be the one to give Diego his only loss. Really diego is the one that didn't push the action or do any thing. Either way it was a good stragey on josh's part.

Wow! Great night of fights! I didn't think Josh would win, but I am glad he proved me wrong. I don't care much for Diego so I am glad Josh won. Roger Hureta VS Garcia fight was awesome also. Those light weights were action packed for the whole 3 rounds. Good respect shown. I am definetliy a fan of Roger now. I am glad Groves won. I like his style. Nice D'arce choke that won him the fight. Put the guy asleep. I am suprised at how Serra won agains GSP. I didn't expect that to happen. I really like the respect shown between both fighters before and after the fight. I am defiently a fan of both. -Jeff

and I am so happy Joe won as quick as he did. I can't stand Melvin. -
You see the ultimate fight night live. I caught the last fight were Joe fights melvin. I can't stand melvin. So I am so happy Joe won the way he did. Threw the jab in to knock melvin back. Take the single leg and takes him down. Melvin stands up. Joe hooks around the head and finishes him with the Guilliotine choke. Joe is awesome!

Since you study shorin ryu. Start hitting the makiawara board. Also rotation or torque in your hips, shoulders, arm, feet, and pushing from your rear foot, helps you drive your body forward to give you more power. Plus staying relaxed then squeezing your hand on the moment of impact helps with an added *pop* to your punch. Which helps add or give the feel of more power. Hope this helps.
-
Also helps me like mentioned before is not to be tense in the shoulders and arms before punching. That will slow you down. What helped me was a suggestion from a friend. Is to think your hitting fast first. I picuture my self punching before I do it, I picture my body relaxed and punching with quickness, and then I start punching it seems to relax me better and I can punch faster. How ever like stated before. Work on technique first and getting the feel of your body or the feel of the technique to be smooth, plus good timing and accuracy is also key as mentioned before. Best advice though as stated before or is to practice over and over again. "Repition is the law of learning" good training to you, Adonis

However to summarize what Cross said and what I said. Cross is very correct in what he said, regarding training develpment to apply the move. 1. Practice the mechancis of the move with non-resistant partner. 2. Practice and develope the technique with diffrent levels or resistance from a parner. 3. Pracice while sparring/rolling . Also forms are just refence for techniques, with the use of note pads, computers, and video and DVD instructionals. That part is not needed any longer for technique refrence. If you do them for fun, or relaxation, or just for the purity of the art great. but Kata is not neccicity for self defense, or developing fighting ability.

I am having a brain lapse. What is the guys name? Oh well. He was in Okinawan karate practioner I forgot the Ryu he was in. He only did one Kata and that was Naihanchi Kata. Either way, thats all you need is ONE Kata to help you remember techniques of your system or disecting the kata for bunkai. If your into kata at all. A little imagination. That block or strike, can be a throw, a grab, a lock, a break, or what ever your imagination can produce. A step can be a kick, so a simple kata like Naihanchi shodan or Pinon shodan, or if your Parker guy short form one or long form 1 is all you need.

KarateEd, My thoughts exactly, makes it cheaper for every one to watch.

Yeah I have some buddies who have UFC parties also. They are fun. Yeah I know what you mean it does get expensive though. The PPV event cost me almost $40 dollars.

Pride 33 All I can say is WOW! What an event! Diaz submitting Gomi by a gogoplata of all things. Yikes! As well as Dan Henerson KO'ing Wandereli Silva. Glad to see Dan get his just due's that guy is awesome. I love wandereli also so it was tough to pick who I was going to root for but I am glad Dan came out over all with the win. Now Dan is Middle weight, and welter weight champ of PrideFC. Any one else see the event yet?

ninjer, outstanding post! I couldn't have said it any better my self.
-
Not really. At some point some one made the kata. Well why did the make it. For a refrence point to place the bunkai in it. You got to be exposed to the concepts and work the bunkai to effectively interpret the kata. Do you need kata to learn bunkai not really, just an imagination. Either way, each to there own. If you like doing Kata great keep doing it, if you like to just train the bunkai that is fine also. If you like doing both awesome. In the end, it doesn't matter as long as you enjoy what you love to do.

BJJ and bodyweight
Adonis replied to BJJBeginner's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
control the head or hug the head then work from there. Go for guilotine choke. Its harder to stand up in that postion if you got the guilotine on. Just sit up hug his body bring him back down to you and then hug the head. Key is controling your opponents posture. If you stand up with him go for a single or double leg, take him down and get mount you can better show him what jiu-Jitsu can do from there because it would hard for him to get out and stand back up.
