Freestyle Jujitsu
Adonis replied to Dazed and Confused's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
I would check to school out and see what it has to offer, if you enjoy the training and it helps you reach your goals for the martial arts. Then go for it. If you don't like the school find another one that suits you better. Biggest thing I see in regards to BJJ vs. Jiu-Jitsu or other Traditional grappling styles, is the training methods, and specifically the resistance training. When you get some one who is resisting what your doing and trying stuff back on you, it answers alot of questions on what moves are high percentage for you and what aren't. -
Thanks for the response ps1. Aweosme! I know I asked a big question that can cover alot of points and be very time consuming. Since asking to show your game there is alot to it. I was thinking more, of things you had a hard time with at first. Example Knee on belly you mentioned were you didn't like it before. How about vid on why you like it things you learned about it, and common mistakes you see in those who don't understand that postion yet. For example triangle chokes I hated I couldn't finish before, but then I learned diffrent ways of setting the triangle up, as well as the big part for me was when I actually get into the triangle postion on some one, is to how to finish it, especially when they try to poster up, or stack me or other counters they try to escape from that postion. Yeah it is amazing to see how the new people catch on so quickly. That shows the teaching ability of the instructor as well as the detailed and good feed back the senior students give to the new guys. Its awesome! Thank you ps1 for sharing your thoughts and ideas with us.

What techniques you use the most on people of your skill level and higher. spefically with postional control from the top, as well as sweeps you use the most with guard, any type of guard. Also your your thoughts and insights on basic techniques, mount control, arm bars, triangle chokes, that you know now that you wish you knew when you first started. I found that it may take me awhile to pick up a move after I get the insights to make it work better, I find if I teach others they pick up hte move quicker then I did when I was first learning.

Yeah I have a hard time on my flexbility for it, so I end up throwing it over at a very slow rate. lol! -

Hey good job, I never could figure out how to hit that during rolling, every pushes my foot down or leans away to where I can only go for the omoplata. Nice job! -
Eddie Bravo's rubber guard
Adonis replied to danbong's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
I don't think it is useless against a trained grappler. I did a couple of privates back in '04 with Jason Chambers (Eddie Bravo Brown belt) He pulled them off on some purple and brown belts while he was in Arizona. If were talking specifically the rubber guard, even eddie says he only has a hand ful of stundents who make it part of there game or to go moves. Again your right though about making it effective is the flexiblity, I do enjoy the twister (wrestling guilotine) and some of his half guard moves, I took another private specifically on the half guard, I still have a hard time making it work, I wish I lived closer to his gym to actually train there for awhile, to get some of it down. For now for the most part I don't work the lock down that much, since I am not very good with it. -
Gi vs. No-gi Grappling
Adonis replied to bushido_man96's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
Nogi - Got to have good offensive game. Gi - a good defensive game. I like to train both gi, and no gi because both are fun. -
Looking for MMA School.

You may have the gym wanting you to sign up with other programs along with the Jiu-Jitsu program. It would be better to e-mail eddie personally. You can myspace him here. http://www.myspace.com/thetwister That way you can get a direct answer to your questions. He has been prettty good at replying. -
Eddie Bravo's rubber guard

I usually don't do the lock down, I did it today in nogi training while rolling, the guy I was going against passes my half guard pretty quickly normally. I grapvined (lockdown) his leg, and pulled my knees which allowed me to get up to my side, I still wasn't able to finish any sweeps or take downs, but I gave him alot more trouble and I think I came back up to my knees with it. Most of the time though I don't play it. Today it worked for me a little bit. I might explore around more with it later on. -

Try LegendsMMA. It may be expensive, but if you just hit up Eddie Bravo he charges in the low 100's I think maybe lower. I heard around $85 a month. However Don't quote me on that. I think it is very low 100's though. However as you know since its Eddie Bravo you won't be doing any gi there in that class. -

Eddie Bravo's rubber guard

I guess harder to pass. Are you talking about keepoing the grape vine for diffrent half guard sweeps or for that particular move he was doing? Seems like for hte move he was doing? -

LA is pretty expensive place to live. General cost of MMA schools and Jiu-Jitsu schools is pretty high. Probably check out some YMCA club or other out of the way places for clubs. I wish I can be more help. What price range are you looking for? -
I think people go to those schools because they like what they see. People have diffrent goals as to why they take a particular art. If it doesn't fit them after awhile they will quit and find another school.

Here is a neat video of Jason Chambers and his instructor Eddie Bravo doing BJJ. -
I feel sparring shows me what I need to work on and improve and what is working for me. To actually improve on it I feel I need to drill more. Doesn't have to be non compliance drilling. It can be resistance drilling as well. Which has braught me alot of results in my game. dete, flexbility, strength, and cardio training are important. I see your point because it allows a person to last longer, and be able to pull off moves they wouldn't otherwise.

Eddie Bravo's rubber guard

http://video.aol.com/video-detail/eddie-bravo-stoner-control-from-half-guard/707924588 This is a vid of him demontrating a move from his half guard. I don't know how he gets on his side so well. I know he pushes up on the ribs and pull his knees in to get the weight off of him for a second to scoot out on his side. I played it before and it worked but mostly on newbees. Any one else and the hip pressure and weight on me. I haven't be able to move. Unless I Let go and plant my outside leg to scoot my hips out. I might go back and try it again. Becaue I like the grapevine because it makes it harder to pass the half guard. -

Adonis replied to danbong's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
ps1, I don't play the lock down (grape vine) game that much any more. I found it less moveable and more often then not I was placed more on my back. Maybe if I trained wth the 10th planent guys more that style of half guard would be better for me. but I only took 3 privates total from 2 of eddies guys. I gave an Eddie Bravo book to my coach and he has been playing around with it and using it very seccesful with his training partners. So I defiently think it has merit. -

I have taken privates with a a couple of Eddies guys. They are good how ever they developed the flexibilty to use it. I mostly focused on the half guard. I did enjoy the twister also. It is just a fun submission. -
Here is a good article on special forces and Army combatives, I thought you might like it. Tell me what you think? http://www.ultimategrapplingmag.com/content/view/41/68/
