Thanks for the advice every one. I appreciate it. I found a buddy of mine who has an awesome kicker who has been teaching me. My kick is getting better I still have a long way to go though to get it to where I want it to be. There are no muay thai schools in my area. So its not really a realistic option to go to one, someone, thanks for the 'secret" though. I will have to use it some time when I move to another area.

With modern technology, kata really isn't that important. You can learn defense moves bunkai and put them on video. Kata was used as a refrence to put moves into. So you can remember them. I wouldn't say kata is useless, People do it for number of reasons, tournaments, for relaxation, for a work out. but you don't need it for self defense. To truly understand kata you need to know the bunkai, but you don't need kata to understand the bunkai in my opinion. Not with a cam corder, DVD players and modern technology out there, now to take the place of Kata for refrence. At least in my opinion.

Shaquile O'Neil - student of Jean Jeac Machado (BJJ) Not sure if he ever attained rank. Joe Rogan (Host of Fear factor/Stand up comedian) Brown belt in BJJ under Eddie Bravo Chuck Norris ( I know he is a famous martial artist) But he is also a Black belt in BJJ under the Machados. Cuba Gooding Jr (actor) trianed in BJJ not sure if he still does that was back in 97. Vin Diesel (Actor) used to train at Beverly Hills BJJ under Marcus Vinicius Maynard James Keenan (singer from Tool) is a blue under Rickson, might be a purble by now. Ed O'Neil (Al Bundy) has been a brown belt for a while, should be getting close to his black belt. I heard he was very good on the mat, a solid grappler. Mario Van Peebles (Actor) BJJ -blue belt (could be purple now) Trains with Renzo Gracie and Rey Diogo. Guy Ritchie (Movie Director) I believe purple belt BJJ. Michael Clarke Duncan (sp?) (actor) is a purple Belt in BJJ at the Gracie Academy. -

Hello, I suck at kicking. Mainly developing the speed and power in it. I was hoping some one can describe the mechanics of a thai kick so I can develop a harder, faster kick. I am facing my partner who is holding the bag. I am kicking with my right leg. So I am in a front stace. I pick my weight up to my ball of my foot to alow my hill to come around and put torque in my hips, as well as swing my arm (same side as my kick) swings back. Could some one post some more detail on how to do a better Thai kick? Or list some common mistakes begginers make on kicking that would help me deliever a better kick?

Actually I met alot of women who can't stand working with other girls. Some complain there partners don't go as hard or have the size and explosiveness that they are trying to deal with in a male attacker so they prefer males to work out with. I don't care who I work out with, but like I said some times my mind does get distracted. It happens.

I went to supplementstogo.com I only baught it once though I forgot the price I think around $15 dollars a bottle. You can check it out. Might help you save money. Unless your getting it cheaper some where else. If so let me know so I can switch over.

Am I being bullied??? Please help.
Adonis replied to Philosophical One's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
Hopefully he isn't going over board with it. I would first say in class not to be rude to you. To show respect. A little more words in the speach but thats the point of it. Having them not test can cause him to loose students and demotivate the students. He is bessed to handle it case by case basis. Either way at least he is standing up for you. Glad your situation is getting worked out for you. -
congradulations!

This is a video done by a guy who went one of Eddie Bravo's Seminars. Showing what he learend. It doesn't show half guard, or rubber guard, but some of tranistions to other techniques, how to get upside down arm bar, diffrent ways to help garrentee regular arm bar, and plus a bunch of transitions and set ups for arm bars, triangle chocks, sweeps and many other things. Its pretty interesting. Check it out and let me know what you think. Warning Video is 22 mintues long though. http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=3457385271062987705&sourceid=docidfeed&hl=en

Automated billing works wonders! lol! It does has it pains also. At least then the student can deal with the billing company instead of harrasing them about late payments. Something to talk with your partner about. As for the young girls, as said by a previous poster put your foot down. they throw there card at you and walk off. say "HEY! come here! You need not act so rude!" Put won't change unless you change. Don't let people walk all over you. Just don't go over board with how you stand up. Some people bottle things up until they can't take it any more and then explode. Or runaway from the situation. There are times to run, but not all the time. You got to stand up for your self first, If things still don't work out then leave. First stand up for your self. -
How ever some instructures look to help instill quality's or re-inforce the ones that should already be taught into the students. Many instructors, don't want there people abusing there teachings and misusing it to hurt others. On that note. If I wanted to look for self enlightment I would go to church I am in Martail art to look to better my self defense abilities and to have fun.

I trained with several diffrent women. There are diffrences between men and women obvisouly. I avoid the chest both and grappling and in stand up sparring. How ever I still accept certain mount of technique both sexes the same. Only diffence is the phycial attributes, bone size, height of the person, flexiblity level, weather men or women. As to what techniques to show. How ever emontailly it can be awekward or diffrent if its a sweet, attractive women. I probably won't hit as hard. Because of the emotional factor.

I messaged you with some quesitons? when you awnser those I can give you a better idea of things to practice help you out. In the mean time here some basic stuff that will help. 1. Get a note book and a Pen/Pencil to take to your class with you. Write down your strengths and weakness of that class, such as what techniques you have a hard time learning, what techniques you feel your good at, what are your higher percentage techniques that seem to work for you. ect,ect 2. Talk to your assistant instructors or your instructor for that class, and ask what you need to work on to get better, ask your training partners also it can help give you an outside perspective. 3. Focus on your strenghs developing them more, using good timing, and distance, accurancy. Ask your instructor for diffrent drills or training methods help you better develop those techniques and attribues. 4. Take a private lesson with your instructor before you do that though. Make sure you have a clear understanding of what you want to work on before you take the private. Many people just show up and don't know exactly what they want to work on or they ask advice on wrong stuff they need to work on, or they don't stay on topic and ask and end up getting a multiple techniques, where they more know more techniques after the private but can't use them because they don't have a clear understanding of how to set the techniques up to make them work. So figure what techniques are your higher percentage techniques and see if you can get details from your instructor in a private and in class on how to better exucte them or the set ups for them to work against your opponent, example using fakes to set them up. Diffrent foot work to close the distance to land the technique, or how y our opponent uses there foot work which puts them in a bad postion to where you can get the technique in. How to work your techniques so you don't telegraph them as much. Diffrent things like that. You focus on them and drill them, over and over until your body has a better chance of remembering. Note: To often students will do a technique a couple of times and then ask more questions which lead to other techniques or get to much detail and they forget how to apply the orginal details so they go away with a half understanding or forget most of the details any way. You shouldn't over load your self in a private. Your paying money for the private make sure you get something out of it. Just remember getting to where you can apply it right away doesn't often happen over night. It just takes time and hard work. So a recap. 1. Note book to class 2. Seek instructors advice, and peers advice, 3. Take Private lessons with your instructor or assistant instructors.

1. Depending on your height, weight, body composition, flexbility, balance while moving your feet or footwork, your balance when throwing hand techiques and foot techniques, as well as your timing, distance from your opponent, your body mechancis while doing the technique for the greastet effect of the technique, speed, and power of your , and postion of your opponent in relation to yours. Are all important factors in how you will do in your sparring. I don't have time now but I have some ideas that may help you out so you can do better while sparring. The other posters have great suggestions and methods also.

I am taking Glucsamine with Chondrotin and MSM. That seems to be helping my knee's. Just hang in there. Work on your flexiblity. Try balance training excercises to help you out each day. What exactly about your kicks you have trouble with. Kicking high you loose balance, your not that flexibile so hard to kick high? You don't feel like you got speed or power in your kicks?

I know I heard Filho from Brazilian Top team rolled with Rickson recently and he said he has never rolled with any one like that before. Rickson is great and taking away a persons space. So they can't move well. He is only 185 but amazing condition and his technique, timing and his other attribues just make him Amazing! All he does is basic techniques but he does them so well no one can stob him that much. Its amazing Filho says that since he rolls with guys like Nogeriea brothers, and Mario Sperry, Murilo Bustamante and Ricardo Arona and other people. Those guys are top notch of the game. ADCC Champs, and MMA, and BJJ champs so its pretty amazing. Pedro Sauer I heard alot of good things about. He was voted by Abu Dhabi combat club the most technical instructor a few years back. Your training with a good person.
