I don't really have young kids in my class. We don't have mixed classes. But when I trained at the main dojang, we did. Saturday mornings was the mixed class. There were a fair amount of kids. But they, for the most part, were well behaved. When they didn't, they would get yelled at by a parent (who also trained) or our instructor.

Go dude! Try it. Falling is a major factor, but so much fun. I am a wimp and it didn't make me stay away from snowboarding. It's a blast. Go for it!
-
I fell A LOT the first day I was learning to snowboard. Yea, it hurt. But I got right back up on the darned thing and kept trying. Then finally going down the mountain without falling was so exciting. I was hooked. In fact I'm going to the mountain tomorrow. YAY! I can't wait.

I'm game. But I'll lose. I'm still a rookie at snowboarding LOL. But I love it. You should rent some gear and try it. If you don't like it, then you didn't waste money on gear. If you do, then you will have to buy it. But it's totally worth it. And you'll pick it up really quick since you already ski.

Trace your Style
karatekid1975 replied to Feathers of Doom's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
The style I am in now, no clue. But when I did TSD, I can trace it back to Kwang Kee (Tang Soo Do founder). But my current instructor has "juice" on this style (TKD). I got a little from her, but not enough. -
What do you do that not many others do?
karatekid1975 replied to Jeet Kune Do's topic in General Chat
Oh man. I wish. I am so close to doing that. I can put my nose to my toes, when I do a butterfly stretch, but not my chest I was close to putting my chest to the floor with a V-stretch also, but I lost that flexibility when I stopped training for a while. -
The "oh that hurts!...you suck! " drama queen....

I had someone do that to me. It was about a year and a half ago or so. This girl liked to spar, but didn't like contact UNLESS she made the contact. It got to me also. Next time we sparred, she dropped her hands and I kicked her on the side of the head. It wasn't hard, but I made contact. She threw a fit, then we continued sparring. She then was wide open for a side kick to the ribs. Again, I made contact. We wear gear, so it couldn't have hurt, eventhough I kicked her hard enough to push her back a little. She threw a fit and acted like I beat the living daylights out of her. She told the instructor (here's the funny part hehehehe). She said that I kicked her in the face (I was standing in ear shot of her), and the instructor said, "Well, you shouldn't have blocked with your face." She said that I made hard contact with a side kick. He said, "well, suck it up." This isn't the first time she did this, so he also had to finally say something. Now she competes a lot in sparring, and the contact doesn't bother her. -
My Tang Soo Do tournament
karatekid1975 replied to Bushido58266's topic in TKD, TSD, Hapkido, and Korean Martial Arts
I like watching people do Bassai. But you really should do the form that is equal to your rank. In TKD, if you do a lower form, you get points off of your score. I don't know if they do that for TSD, though (I haven't trained in TSD in years). -
I don't pay anything right now. I don't go often enough. But it's an hours drive, so I kind of still pay when it comes to gas. But it's worth it.
-
I don't think you should stop. I used to do that all the time (well, I did it again this time, too). If you are good at forms and learn fast, why not, right? I've been a 1st gup for a little over a year, so I am learning a BB form. I don't see a problem with it.

I have. What ya need to know? There's a lot of folks on KF besides me that took TSD (I do TKD now do to a move, but still admire TSD), so you can get a lot of info. Let us know what you are looking for/wondering about, bro. And welcome to KF

I'm usually quiet when I meet someone new, until I get to know them a bit better. Then they can't shut me up! LOL Anyways, There is really good advice here for your situation. The best one, as karate carolyn pointed out, just be yourself.

I have a couple of pics in the KF photo album. Their kind of old, but I don't look any different.

ramymensa, I agree. I wake up with the alarm or the dog. But I need time to "wake up." Even before I attempt anything in the morning. Lots of coffee, and a nice warm shower usually does the trick. My man even knows better to even talk to me before I down the first cup of coffee LOL. My mom bought me the perfect keychain. It's got this saying on it ... "I haven't had my first cup of coffee. Don't make me hurt you." It fits me to a "T" LOL

What do you do that not many others do?
karatekid1975 replied to Jeet Kune Do's topic in General Chat
I don't think I do anything no one else does, unless they hate cooking. I love to cook, snowboard, martial arts (when I can ... weather is not behaving ... an hours drive stinks in bad weather), and I play drums (when I can). That's about it, unless I can think of something. Oh wait. This isn't normal for a girl. I work on my own cars. I rebuilt a whole valve cover once, too. I may think of something else. -
advice for kicks
karatekid1975 replied to hapkido princess's topic in TKD, TSD, Hapkido, and Korean Martial Arts
Heidi stole my advice hehehehehehe. Well, she told me that before, too. It does work. bushido_man96 also has great advice. When I first started, my worst kick was back kick. I did what he explained and it worked wonders. -
Testing Sparring
karatekid1975 replied to bushido_man96's topic in TKD, TSD, Hapkido, and Korean Martial Arts
For us, we just sparred and had fun. I mean, we were supposed to show technique, control, ect. At least, with my last test, I had fun with it. I sparred BB's and red belts a like. Of course, I'm sure if we gave up, we wouldn't have passed. -
TKD Testings
karatekid1975 replied to bushido_man96's topic in TKD, TSD, Hapkido, and Korean Martial Arts
My last test went like this (We are WTF). We started with forms. Not all of them, but the instructor picks them at random (I think I did about 5 or 6, including the bo form). Then we did step sparring (one steps). On to what we call combat tactics. Then self defence stuff. Then we did board breaking (5 stations, two boards each. Two hand breaks, two feet, and one jump kick of our choice). Then on to sparring. I sparred about 5 rounds. 3 for my test, and I was a second person for a couple of matches for the BB's (they spar 2 on 1 for at least three rounds). I had fun that day, too. It was a great test. Long (lots of people testing that day), but fun. -
I use windows XP.

Oh wow! It's been so long since we went to any cinema. I think it was a movie made by Jackie Chan. I don't remember which one, though. We usually wait until the movie we want to see comes out on DVD. Then we rent or buy it. The last one we saw was Ice Age 2. Cute movie. The first one was good, too.

Ho Sin Sul
karatekid1975 replied to bushido_man96's topic in TKD, TSD, Hapkido, and Korean Martial Arts
Yes, we have required Ho sin Sul from the org. But my instructor puts a slight twist on it. It makes it more realistic, I think.
