  1. Thank you sir. I haven't started TSD yet. The date to open the dojang was pushed back to 9/1 But I talked to sah bum nim a few times, and he told me to work on my forms. So I have been doing that, and working on basics.
  2. I remember my kata/forms from TSD (my first style). It took a bit to get the technique down again, but I still have them. That's because we did them EVERY CLASS, EVERY FORM. When I went back to TSD (my old dojang), after being in TKD for a while (about 3 years or so), I still remembered them. And this time, it's the same (after 5 years of TKD). So, having said that, my advice would be, practice ALL your forms as often as possible. Not just the advanced ones. The lower ones can really sharpen your basics as well. So it's a win-win situation.
  3. I saw it yesterday. I watched the one with karate. I agree with you. I like the history aspects, and training methods of each style. But the end fight part is kinda stupid. I guess they like getting beat up LOL.
  4. Yes, I agree. I'm not a BB, but I LOVE breaking. I just "lose it" in tournies, and not place for some reason (forms are a different story). But since I got back into TSD, I'm determined to do breaking and place, at least 3rd! Dang nabbit! LOL My first break in TSD was a back kick. That was my worst kick ever back then. But when I went through that board, I was in aw. It just totally blew my mind. I still have that board (and all it's pieces ) signed by sah bum nim. My other attemps were at tournies. BUT when I tested for 1st gup in TKD (after one of those not-so-suggessful tournies ... except for forms), I broke every board first shot on each (all were 5 two-board stations) That was my best test ever
  5. I always say it's Korean karate or a Korean version of Shotokan (just because I'm bad at explaining things). But it's kind of true, in a way. The forms are the same as Shotokan (just some techniques are slightly different). I'm not much help. Like I said, I'm bad at explaining things.
  6. Both. My instructor now (TKD) is totally awsome. I plan on training with her once or twice a month for sparring. I have to do point sparring now, but I want to keep up with TKD (WTF rules) sparring as well for open tournies in the future. She also knows a lot about point sparring as well. So I'll get it from both instructors.
  7. I'm 32. I didn't think anything of it when I turned 30. Everyone asked if I was dreading it. Nope. Just another birthday. But for me, I look and feel young (excpet for my bum leg LOL), so 30 didn't bother me. There is a guy at work who says he's 38, but he looks 50. I was shocked when he told me his age. He was shocked when I told him mine. He thought I was 21! Yay! Happy Birthday, by the way
  8. Hey Hwa Rang. You can read his story here: http://www.centerofharmony.com/staff/chiefinstructor.html I'm still doing TKD at the moment, tho.
  9. Hehehehehe. I know. So am I. But I finally got what I wanted after all these years.
  10. I am going to train in TSD again. Yay! Well, I trained in TSD when I lived in NJ. LOVED it. Then I moved here (NY). Couldn't find a TSD dojang. So I did TKD for about 5 years. Now there's a TSD dojang about to open! I talked to sah bum nim already, so it's a done deal. Right now though, I'll still do TKD until he opens (end of August, hopefully). I am SOOOOOO excited! Tang Soo!!!
  11. I did Tang Soo Do for 1 year, 3 months. TKD about 5 years now. Jujitsu, off and on for a year or so. Judo for a couple of months. BUT I'm changing styles again. Back to TSD.
  12. I also used to have a belt problem. My green belt in TSD was too long. So, this one class, my instructor had us doing front kicks to spin back kicks down the floor. I did the front kick and my belt came up and popped me in the eye. I did the back kick and my ponytail whipped around and popped me in the other! Ouch! I couldn't see through the tearing the rest of the class. I do wear slightly shorter hair and belts now LOL.
  13. I like this answer..couldn't agree more! This is how my instructor is. She's the best in my opinion
  14. My first dojang had maintenance tests every 6 months for BB's. But I don't think it cost anything (except for the actual test for 1st, 2nd, 3rd, ect dan levels). It was mainly a physical fitness test, I think. I could be wrong, though. I only made it to 5th gup there.
  15. OMG!! I missed this thread *smacks herself on the forhead* Happy belated B-day KF.
  16. CHAMP!!!! Welcome back! We missed you.
  17. I agree with Kieran-Lilith. I've been hit there a few times. I didn't care. I just kept training.
  18. I was taught all three (shin, ball of the foot, and instep). To me, it depends on what I'm doing or happening at the time. I spar using the instep (per TKD rules), break with the ball of my foot, and in SD or bag work, the shin. When I'm working out at home on B.O.B, I use my shin (or if someone is holding an airshield bag).
  19. Bryan (I might be spelling your name wrong)? Is that you? I mean, Dundee Bryan? If so, SWEET! We have more DRAGONS on KF. Go FOUR DRAGONS!!!!
  20. bushido_man96, I feel for you. Been there a few times (read my posts in the staff forums from 3 years ago). I'm thinking of you and your family. Stay strong, dude.
  21. I am an Emergency Room Nurse, and have been a police officer.....now I just want to teach martial arts and snowboarding!!!!! Yay! Which is what she does ... I can testify for that (martial arts and snowboarding, that is)
  22. hehehe. You caught me sensei *bows*
  23. When I was in TSD, it was white, orange, green, blue (me before I left), brown, purple, red, red with stripe, cho dan bo (dark blue), black. TKD (the system I'm with anyway .... kind of): is white, orange, yellow, green, purple, blue, brown, red, red with black stripe (me), prob black, then black. Too many for my taste. Jujitsu: white, green, brown, black (more my style). Rank means ... well, nothing to me now. I'm there to train. If I test, ok then. If I don't ... let my training speak for me. I really don't care if I test. I just want to train. I have one of the best instructors in the world in my opinion. If she test me, fine. If not, so be it. I'm happy just to train with her.
  24. I wanted to be a cop years ago. But I worked as a campus cop, and that cured that LOL. NOT my gig. Anyways, I'm unemployed at the moment, but my ideal job would be a vegan chef. But I can't find a cooking school in Rochester area, and there's very limited places to work at here (3, but they are "deli" type places). My soon-to-be hubby and me will open a dojang in the future, but I would still like to try the chef thing.
