  1. I learned them in Tang Soo Do. They are vary similar to the Shotokan forms, as Fosgate said. He has a good link to check out these forms.
  2. I have done the Pyung Ahns, Taegeuks, and started to learn the Chang Hon's. I think I like the Pyung Ahns for the challenge of them. The Taegeuks were easy to learn except for 7 and 8 (I do like those two a lot). With the Chang Hons, I was only there at that dojang for two months and I didn't learn them in order. I learned Chon Moo, though, and I really liked it.
  3. I agree. I lost my job in my first dojang (TSD), and my instructor let me clean the dojang to pay for lessons (I think I said that already LOL). Anyways, I have been looking for this dojang near by, but I can't find a number or address. They don't advertise (that could be a good thing in a way). How do I go about finding them? I know they are there, because they did a demo at a local park that I heard about (I didn't go, but heard about it). I even drove around and looked for the dojang, but couldn't find it. They must be in a school or a church or something.
  4. I did train there for 4 years. But it got expensive and the politics in that dojang got out of hand. A lot of people left after I did .. well in a spand of a 6 month period, people started dropping out. Except my man. He's determined to get his 2nd dan. There's just a hand full left there that I started with (well the ones that were there when I started). bushido, no I don't like the competition part of it. Well, I did compete, don't get me wrong, but it wasn't my favorite part of the WTF.
  5. I don't like peas, either. Peas are not a food and have no business in anybody's soup! That's funny coming from a Vegan .... Joke I am Vegan too, and I hate peas .... yuk
  6. As far as I knew it is. I call my jujitsu instructor Professor Mike. First name yea, that's wierd. But he's a friend, but a great martial artist and a 5th dan. I respect him and his wife ALOT! Whatever he or she wants me to call them, they deserve it. Even if they don't want me to.
  7. Thanks arran6. Yes, as of this month (25th), it will be six years. And I have a lot of home training stuff. That's what I have been using lately. My man is teaching me my next form (he's a 1st dan, soon-to-be 2nd) koryo, so that will keep me busy for a while. I am also looking at two new schools. One is TKD (WTF) and the other is karate (not sure what style). I am getting excited to start training at a dojang again.
  8. Sorry Patrick. I just realized which Brian you were talking to ... opps. Didn't mean to confuse you. But it's good to hear you're feel better.
  9. He said, "you're welcome." If you are sick, this stuff (hot and sour soup of his) will "open you up." It will definitely clean your sinuses
  10. OMG!!! Me too. Brian makes a great hot and sour mushroom soup (no meat). I like homemade soups. I make a homemade chicken noodle (with fake chicken ... sorry meat eaters ), vegetable stew, and butternut squash soup. And the above mushroom soup my honey makes is awesome. I attemped to make french onion soup, but I had to change a few things to the recipe (like change the beef stock to veggie stock, ect) because I'm vegan. It came out ok, but I don't think I'll make it again.
  11. Good point. I started because I had a job at the time where I needed self defense (campus cop). So I remebered the karate kid movies. So I decided to take up MA. And the rest is history.
  12. Heidi made a good point. I see her outside the dojang, and I bow. I don't care where it is. I have a lot of respect for her and her hubby. Both of them taught me so much. But then again, I had instructors that didn't want that. My TSD instructor wanted to be treated as a normal guy outside of class. But in class, he kicked butt. He didn't demand respect, he earned it. Nice guy. I saw him once outside. I tried to respect his feelings, and respect him as my instructor. So I just shook his hand and called him Mr. B. He was satisfied with that. I'm sure Heidi would be too, but she didn't say so hehehehehe So she gets a bow
  13. It was the attitude I expected, put it that way. I also came from a TSD dojang (my first style). When I was out of work, my instructor let me clean the dojang to pay for lessons. To show my "thanks" to him, I kept doing it even after I got a job. When this instructor didn't even let me, it was kind of a turn off. I was willing to pay him in anyway, but he said, "I'll see you when you find a job. Good luck." And he even gave me places that were hiring, but nothing came from it (I tried those places). I decided not to go back. When I know there's instructors out there that are willing to help their students, this was a major blow. I hear of stories all the time (not just mine) that instructors help students in need. He didn't even take my offer. It kinda hurt. So I'm without martial arts, and I'm bummed at this point. Except training on my own, but I miss the "classroom" or dojang with other folks. Some say "Well, stay to get you BB" or whatever. But it's not about the belt. I just want to train. Alone is ... well, lonely. I just want a decent dojang to train at that I don't get the above .... stuff. And no politics. That's all I ask. Sorry. I'm just venting at this point. But it is true about how I feel.
  14. Chris, your right. I'm not going back. I'm looking around at other places. I did get a job .... well, it's a job that I had one day a week. My boss offered to give me full time (or close to it). It's 5 minutes from my house, so I took her offer. If something better comes along, I'll take it. But for now, I have something. Now, back to hunting for a place to train.
  15. Ok, I asked him. He just gave me another place that was hiring ... gggrrrrr. I'm so frustrated! BUT my honey came up with an idea. He is 1st dan, and he is willing to train me/teach me stuff for now. But it's the old system that I was in prior to ITF. But I remember most of it, so it's better than nothing. This way, I can keep training.
  16. Bad news. He just told be to hang in there, and come back when I get a job, basically
  17. hehehehehe. I think he would win, cathal LOL. Anyways, I did email him and explained my situation (that's the only chance I get to talk to him privately). I'll keep you all updated on how that turns out.
  18. Well, this isn't that weird, because kids have accidents ... A kid pooped his pants just before the adult class (the one I was in at the old dojang). "It" kinda fell out of his pants. It was cleaned up, but most of the adults waiting for the class saw it. They "avoided" that spot the whole night. It actually turned out pretty funny (well you had to be there).
  19. Hiya all. Well, this is the situation for me. I got laid off from my job. I can't afford to train at the dojang. What do I do? I can train on my own, but I'm new at the ITF TKD style, eventhough I have been training a few years (6 years). I don't wanna stop, but I can't afford training ... this sucks. Have you guys been in this situation? What did you do? Or delt with it? Please help.
  20. Not me. I just snowboard in the winter. It is a good workout, though. Good cardio hiking back up a snowy mountian .... sorry folks, that didn't help. Anyways, I was thinking about doing yoga. What do you guys think for someone with a bum hip and knee?
  21. I agree, also. I'm not a fighter either, and I used to freeze up (before MA). So I can see where he's coming from. If he has never been in a fight in his life, and this was the first time, that could be a shock to the system (body). I would say it's normal. I was lucky when I had to defend myself for the first time. I don't know how in the heck I didn't freeze up. Totally weird. But I came out without a scratch (thank goodness).
  22. My new dojang is very small. We all train in one class. But in my last dojang, they had the classes split. Beginner, intermed, advanced. Then on saturday was mixed. The only problem with a mixed open class like that is the advanced students are always asked to help with something with the lower ranks. I didn't have a problem with that unless I was learning a new form. I didn't have time to do so. And the advanced class during the week was so short that I didn't get much time then either. Thank goodness that my new dojang as 1 and a 1/2 hour classes. I can help others and still have time to learn new stuff.
  23. Cool. Let me know, bud.
  24. I perfer a plain white gi. No patches, or anything. But most of mine have a logo on the back and school patch. I also think that those multi colored gis with lots of patches have to go. They are tacky.
