one thing ot be careful of when attempting powerful kicks in when "snapping" the legs out, careful with your knee joint, you dont want to hyperextend it.

Might be interested to respectfully ask him why you cant train elsewhere- the answer will probably tell you a lot, even if its not a rela answer to teh question.

Sam replied to Aodhan's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
OK - so there some obvious signs you can be predjudiced against when you know what you;re looking for, but when you don t its very difficult to know whats good [hence not knowing what to look for , lol] Obvious bad signs, are unskilled high belts, lazy instructor, etc. -

its was in a tourni, you see it all the time, people just dont notice things like that, cuts bruises, broken fingers, etc. till they finish the round and sit out... then the pain starts -
Transitioning between Degrees of Black Belt
Sam replied to scottnshelly's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
lol = my pants are elasticated - maybe i should quit now. I agree as well about wathcing people in normal sessions - the difference in some students is massive, so the tests arent necessarily representative of their overall dedication to the art, only their dedication to their next belt.... which is rather self serving IMHO. -
Where is the martial in the Martial Arts?
Sam replied to parkerlineage's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
hmmm... I agree with this - i hear a lot of people saying that you should never as an MA [especially a youung MA in my case] get into a fight. Well sometimes its unavoidable, we train to be able to fight so we can avoid it because we have nothing ot prove, but sometimes its just a necessity. I personally like the shape of my nose so i dont wnat it splatted all over my cheeks, and will take steps to avoid this. Obviously avoiding or diffusing confrontation is a step to avoiding thing, but that may not work; and one has to be prepared to use what you learn to defend yourself or others. my 2cents. -
A good example of why you cant go full contact all the time is Thai Boxers legs and knee joints.... they're pretty messed up. I agree that there is a limit to the tolerence ofthe body, but that training at higher resistant and contact is beneficial simply for the experience. Not saying its the only way to train by any means

oh one point - pineapple - i disagree that any MA training improves your chances.... any good MA training does, but not any MA training - if its not good it likely goes out the window in a SD situation. -
I think its interesting ot see someone who doesnt know whats coming being demonstrated on - becuase alot of the tiem the uke will move with a technique. on topic - he threatened to kill you?! lol Ive never done anything that can top that, have been shown how effective some moves are that i had doubts about, but thats bout it.

how do you bring down someone bigger than yourself?
Sam replied to Ryan gry's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
yeah still.... "just sleeper hold him" if it was that easy everyone would do ti. -
yes he was defending someone else in a life threatening situatino. the black belt is irrelevant in this case.

maybe you did, and just didnt hear the "thousand" part, lol

you may struggle to talk to them though... the prefernce of inanimate objects that many autistic people have is due to the "seeing everything" issue - which is why eye contact is so hard to acheive as there is a lot to absorb in the face escpecially when its talking.
-
yeah xma is an application of methods rather than a style in itself....
-
its like a jumping front kick with step.... like karate kid from crane stance thing but the knee doesnt stay there for ages.... then instead of a front kick do an axe kick.... now for tips.... as you scissor throw the knee across the body and turn the shoulders with it.... then extend the kicking leg and use the momentum from teh extension to throw it up.... then just axe.... it should [if you've brough the knee across] naturally go outwards now. hope that made sense
-
its also about maximising the exlposive energy in the turn after 360 degrees that starts to peter out.

its relaly good for checking your accuracy - in fact there a post going round on it somewhere.... -
yes - but you cnat learn them all for all scenarios -and you stil lknow how the techniques going to be thrown. and how theyll be standing, etc..... i personally believe in learning more methods rather than specific exmaples.....but thats just my opinion.
-
and you leanr more from fighting someone new..... you learn different approaches, etc.
-
depends on who you train with and how you train - who are you to judge his opinions.... lol i think we all have different opinions on this.... depends on our own experiences.
