well we eventually have to use what we train to do.... not matter how hard we try and avoid it, not everyone will have to, but some will.

Energy used to knock somebody out
Sam replied to TriStateTerror's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
IMHO no touch knockouts are impossible... or at least only a result of masssive conincidence, lol. I've always wanted to understand where the myth comes from, and what the idea behind them is [i.e. how the energy flows ,etc. and whate forces are involved and what is their source] -
lol.... i think after all this time... we can all stand up and honestly say that it may or may not be abad or good idea to reamin standing / go to the ground in a street fight as 80/20/10/x % of all streetfights remain standing / go to ground..... lol It all depends on wehre you have the advantage as to where you want it to go.....

wowl oads of long posts one thing though - im keeping mine short.... Not all TKD is point style sparring.... but the overwhelming majority of schools practice this. Triddle when you say traditional TKD are you talking about ITF, and if so which generation of it? Also Triddle - good to have you here, nice to have someone else defending TKD with well reasoned points.... not saying my points are well reasoned, just that iattempt to defend tkd from being all lumped into one group.

especailly if he knows the "stamping kick" lol

id talk to the preachers and see how they teake it personally... they may not wish to... i dont think there is anything in the bible [if they're christian] taht says you cnat defend yourself.

I think beyond all other techniques the spearhand requires the most conditioning..... and is a good technique once you can use it.... however the amount of trainig time it takes most people to build up the strength in their fingers os they dont collapse on impact is massive. But if its worht it.... i still prefer other attacking tools, but it is definitely worth having.
-
Also - it generally insights the person that attacks them to "get them" when ur not there..... they look for the opportunity to get back at them

I still hold the fact that i MASSIVELY doubt the ability ot hold of 10 trained armed attackers attempting to kill you.... or evne 3 like i said.... simply statistically..... i dont need actual proof of examples.... 3 people with weapons... 1 man unarmed.... just the ability of the 3 people to attac you simultaneously.... and sa you said controlling one person may be difficult [otherwise you could assume you could do it] but 3 simlutaneous armed skilled attackers..... Also in this case thinking whether its possible has nothing to do with it..... although it may be beneficial to believe in yourself in a situation where you have a chacne of coming out alive, i seriously disbelieve it would make a noticable differnce. Im not attacking you personally, just the point that a single person could hold off ten attackers.... as you say you've never had cause to try this in the real world only in Dojo simulations, so to profess that a rw example of this is possible is a rather too large leap of logic / faith for me to take.....

Judo as a self defense system
Sam replied to ravenzoom's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
personal opinion is from what ive seen of it, it would seem to be effective for self defense. But again, its mainly down to how you train and what aim you have sport, etc. and what methods you use. -
kenpo vs kickboxing
Sam replied to wingedsoldier's topic in Choosing a Martial Art, Comparing Styles, and Cross-Training
ok then ill have a look into it... but i still think its just a translation difference. -
A perfect martial art?
Sam replied to pondera's topic in Kung Fu, JKD, Wing Chun, Tai Chi, and Chinese Martial Arts
Well like i said good luck with your training.... im not about ot start an arguement about the pros cons of ninjitsu, i would just say like every other MA on the planet, its not perfect. -
It depends on ur TKD organisation really and style.... many tkd orgs dont do the aerial techniques that much to be honest.... but tehre are a lot that do....
