  1. exactly, you just have to remember you wonty have time to take your shoes and socks off andget into your gi / dobok / whatever.... lol although it would be funny to see soemone try
  2. yes but training takes time, and they would be in a more even fighting field,..... the sort of people who get drunk and go looking for fights arent lookign for a fair and safe competition theyre looking to hurt someon, redouble and reinforce their ego, and sometimes just hurt people.

I think so long as you are aware enough to apply abilities learned and style from each of the arts then there is no problem with cross training...... i.e. tkd high kicks and speed [wtf style].... you can apply the speed and power looking to overcome the opponent rather than for points, just a matter of application..... remember a good student of sparring,etc. should be able to adapt their abilities to the rules they have to fight under.

Depends on the association you are with for both those (1) Generally under 16s may be given the grade of "junior black belt" they are blackbelts but are also still junior students, - automatic promotion to bb when tehy reach 16 (2) this very rarely happens, likely she will have to continue to train as a pre-black until she is old enough. Just out of interest how logn has she been training?

  7. 12 and such is scary - no problem with younger black belts [im generally considered one myself] down to about 15, but before that i worry.... i know of a black belt who is 16 and will be grading for her 3rd dan next year...... started in 1997 i think. Anyway back on topic - i dont think there is anything wrong with a frayed belt if you do it on purpose. I will keep the belt i have forever as my instructor bought it for me and had it embroidered as a present. I may get a new one for demonstrations, gradings if it becomes too frayed, but id never key it; and ill wear it as long as i train iwth him

    "i'd do a flying reverse side kick, jump on him nad crush his skull" - is easy to say..... i think everyone who trians needs to remember the chaotic and adrenaline filled nature that self defense situations entail..... you see people with years of training have it go completely out the window in a real situation, but then again you see people with years of training and experience who can remain completely calm and collected..... think the key difference there is expereince, difficult to say how you'd act ,or what you'd do. Id like to say I'd do something, but depends on what / who / how many i was attacked by.
  10. I agree, but i prefer the ground work development side of things you do in BJJ.... I did consider hapkido but wanted something completely separate.
  11. Maybe he stopped training for a while - like got to 4th degree, and started teaching so much and not getting a chance to train, or not trainign while he taught, etc. etc. you see that sort of thing quite a bit.
  12. yes im talking about generally, obviously if the knees bent quite a bit already, and you kick it from the side then yes it will probably break, im just tlaking abuot a standing opponent, but point take - too many variables in such a chatoic environment ot say for definite.

  16. also physically its great, just if you train hard in it, you get some cool things you can do. Can be a good compliment to TMA trianing.
  17. Cross trainign is fantastic..... so long as you train hard in both styles, it allows you to cover a lot more gorund and learn far more.... not so good if you only do one lesson a week, but oh well.
  18. i did that when i went for my red blet- completely blanked buy just went with what felt right, and luckily my hours and hours and hours of practice carried me through on autopilot.

  21. always get ot learn some thing - and usually get some good advice.... i love sparring my instructor.... [my only senior in most my classes] and love sparring the colour belt grades, just to see who i reckon is going to do well at tournaments.
  22. yeah but there are websites that do that sort of thing already..... not going to mention names because my post got removed last time. But reviewing the belt process and mcdojoness of a school already happens quite a bit.. Not saying its a bad idea - just who's review of a school do you trust?
  23. Its great to learn how to keep calm, calm down a situation.... but eventually you may end up needing that trianign it work..... so i would say just as a prevetative measure, id want to make sure hwat im learning works.
  24. yeah be wary of meditation on techiques ..... sounds a bit interesting to me... Always seem to be agreeing iwth you aodhan, must be all the TKD. It also seems to combine aspects of other things.... yoga?! to make the art seem more complete.... best advice is to just check it out.
