  1. yes however, the memory is against a technique thrown in a certain way.... 1step is considerably better than most other drill based exercises. However you know that the person facing you is throwing a technique, and you're familiar with how that technique willgo [im assuming you're all taught how to punch kick in the same way]. Im not saying they're uselss, jsut that there are better ways of practicing that sort of thing. Also - im glad it worked for those 2 people.
  2. yeah - side kicks are used quite regularly as defensive kicks ot keep distacne in TKD.... specially side pushing kicks. Axe kicks are good range gaining kicks, as are they good for close range head shots.
  3. can you explain the motion of the kick, as we all use different terms to describe the same kick.

    I think sometimes its difficult in those sort of situations to say what you would do. most people who havent experienced being attacked, probably dont necessarily know exactly that they'd do....

    weight ranges will ahve different styles in any art.... just a matter of what they are physically better at or capable of.

  8. seems to me the generally consensus is BJJis a good way to go, and id say the same.... thats what im looking to take up soon [september] to fill in the gaps of my tkd training.
  9. Also - what energy... whered it come from... just interested... Also agreeing about the Jujitsu school, dont think they really concentrate on Chi / energy that much.
  10. I agree there - that they are a "weapon" you should have, if theres a chance you can use them then why not trian in them. Its just when people start thinking they are the only way, etc.

  12. so WTF sport TKD... sorry i hate when we all get generalised into one style.... lol It doesnt have blocks becuase the rules dont favour them, and also i imagine any experience WTF TKDer would know to use blocks normally... but i agree i think it would be better to train in sports iwth blocks intact. They are allowed, and do block, just not that often.

  15. leanr methods, rather than scenarios. But like everyone's said, train hard and keep the things simple and effective.
  16. this definitely applies to people who do martial arts that require flexibility for some techniques.... so things like copeira, tkd, etc. Your clothes limit your techniques. so i think its a great idea to practice in your normal clothes.
  17. also - you're more likely to kick the leg out from underthem, rather than break the knee, unless they have their weight on it [and more than 50%]

  20. Ok - obviously you're slightly biased "Ninjitsu", and you obviously love your trianing and the confidence you get from it, so i hope you continue to do so. However, its going ot be very difficult to convince people that ninjitsu is capable all round in all areas of martial arts.. .simply because it lacks sparring, adn therefore without experience in attack / defense in a more live situation, the theory is unlikely to be put into practice that much. Im not saying sparring is the be all and end all of MA practice, just that for an MA to be perfect it surely should have all aspects covered, and sparring is an aspect of MA. Also though I agree with CloudDragon - in a "perfect" situation there would be no fighting - but the world isnt perfect so we learn MA.
  21. I agree - its important to condition both muscle and nerves... Also the example you gave about shins i mostly agreed with anyway. I prefer nerve condition for boney attacking tools as you dont actually need the nerves in your knuckles. Whereas muscular condition is necessary for body blows, cos i really cant think of a way of killing off the feeling in my body without some serious pains along the way..... I agree bout the mcdojos thing.... but you get it all over, people who train with "tagging" methods in sparring and dont complement that with any conditioning, seem to just collapse from blows....
  22. thats what the "hinder it considerably" was about - i dont believe a stance can have that much effect, simply because stance are only strong through 2 planes, so the third plane will always be weak.
  23. exactly - it also depends on how you train.... a lot of fighting ability is down to methods rather than art.... Art does play a part, just methods seem to be more important [imho]
  24. to add to mine - tournaments are only worth what you can take away from them. So their worth is directly proportional to how well a student learns from themselves.... as its dificult to be told [once you're relatively proficient] what your mistakes are. Also the gain depends on how you spar, what rules and what style.
