You have to realise that there are Japanese translations and then there are Okinawan translations. The Jitte translation in Okinawa is ten hands. The Japanese referred to it as something else.
-
I thought its name meant ten-hands

Death is a natural part of life. Life is a cherished thing, however, and we will fight for it. We must not forget to live. We can't let death run our lives. If we let it hinder us, we lose. Use it as an asset to make you do things faster, and you gain.

Martial Arts, I feel, are a way of life because they enstill the ethics of society as well. The respect you show others is what is tried to be taught at schools and throughout life. Martial Arts helps you achieve that standard.

Well I haven't been banged up, but I certainly have banged people up. They always think that just because I am a kid, I can't hurt them. Oh how wrong they are!

Whats the best martial art
Karateka replied to MrDash's topic in Choosing a Martial Art, Comparing Styles, and Cross-Training
Its not the Martial Art, its the Martial Artist! -
I can't decide right now. I have my whole life ahead of me. I am deciding to go to the Military. Whether I have time for Karate is a question. The main thing I want to look at is how much I can learn now and then I look back at the past and see from where I came and how far I came. To make a long story short, I want to do as much as I can so it can benefit me in the future.

The stongest punching and kicking techniques are!!!
Karateka replied to ramcalgary's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
I agree with Joe and Moobrack, they deliver incredible power. Amazing on how the Karate people agree on the same techniques. -
The action was not only of gripping the ground, but using your hara to weight yourself down, bending your knees, and think like a tree. That is what was necessary to get a strong stance.
-
Basic same principle. To keep your foot in place, grab the floor with your toes. It is to keep balance and power.
-
Karate starts at the feet and goes up. The grip of your toes on the floor, to the flexing of muscles, to your abdomen; your foundation begins from the ground up!

psychological effects of fighting
Karateka replied to Prodigy-Child's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
Psychological Effect of fighting is one of confidence. After you win, you know you have a good chance of winning again. Then there is also the fear of losing, which increases as you start to think, "I have to screw up some time!" -
I have been taught in Shi-to Ryu Seikokai to rotate on your toes. On your heels, you lose balance if you want speed. If you keep your toes on the ground, then you still have that firm contact which allows you to generate power quickly.

Maybe some people do kata for another reason. Not to calm themselves or to learn to fight, but because it is fun to them. Some people enjoy these things. That is one use of kata; enjoyment. Enjoy!

The problem in the West is that you have football, hockey, and basketball taking up the scene. Hell, cheeleading takes up more media then we do. We have to make Karate more showy for the crowd. We have to make it exciting and fun. Make it so we are not only Competitors, but entertainers as well. I don't mean we should become like the WWF. We should make tournaments for the spectators just as much for the competitors.

BC Winter Game tryouts
Karateka replied to Karateka's topic in MMA, Muay Thai, Kickboxing, Boxing, and Competitive Fighting
Well I'm back. For the tryouts, there are two spots per division. There was only two people in my division, me and the other guy. We still had to fight to see how good we were. The guy sucked. He kept running into my guard so I kept getting warnings against me. I beat him 6-5. Then I had to fight again in another divison. He was there. I changed my strategy and beat him 8-0. It was sweet. Thanks to everyone who wished me luck, it worked. -

I made the team! I am now head of the 16-17 year old Kumite. I am now the head of Vancouver. It was a hard fight, but I won it. I'd like to type more but I'm too tired. Gotta go. Take it easy all. -
You have to work on the weakness. For phsyical weaknesses, you just have to keep working. Emotional Weakness, again you have to work on not being scared, doing drills. When you fight, try to be agressive. All it takes is hard work. It won't be quick and easy, but it can be done.
