  1. Karateka

    Test?

Our Club does the exact thing. We ask them questions right after Katas and Kumite. It really helps in the conditioning.
  2. Here is a bit of trivia for you guys. In the line saying "Nor have We been wanting in attentions to our British brethren." in the original copy in 1776, the word "British" was spelled "Brittish". If you look at the copy in the archives, that is how it is actually spelled. Just thought I should let you know, it seemed cool to me.
  3. Karateka

    Gi color

    white
  4. I practiced Sanchin my first time, and I had to sit out for the class. If you guys want to see some really neat kata, look at some Shi-to Ryu kata. They are really awesome.
  5. If you look at the Korea/Spain game, you could see that the Korean team was genuinly putting their hearts into the game. Where the Spanish would walk, the Koreans ran; where the Spanish ran, the Koreans sprinted. I feel Korea deserved to win because they put everything they could into the game.
  6. I like my style's, Shi-to Ryu's, subtle movements. A lot of people think our moves that maybe smaller than Shotokan's, cannot give us power. We have it. Plus I love the range of Kata we have. Officially, we have 43 Tournament allowed katas. In actuallity, we have more than 60 kata.
  7. Well said KickChick. A black belt not only sets the example for the Kohai (lower ranking students) he sets the example for other Black belts.
  8. Both are good in their own little ways. The point is to take what you think works for you, and try to work on what isn't at the moment.
  9. Good luck with the Comp.
  10. I have different Kiais. My reason is you hit every person differently, so my Kiais vary. It has a lot to do with my mood, and the move I've just done.
  11. I haven't heard of that Kata either. Do you know where you heard of the kata. Any sources? I would be greatly interested in learning it.
  12. My first teacher was an ass. I thought he was like God. One time, he invited me to the advanced class to see how I liked it. I said, I can't pay for doing it. He said, don't worry, you won't have to pay. I thought, Great! He is teaching all of them weapons Kata, and he put me on the bag for 20 min. Just left me there punching. I asked him, what the hell was up, why wasn't he teaching me? He just said, you aren't paying me, why should I teach you. I left that class right then and there, and joined my current club, and I haven't regretted it since.
  13. Dating in-club can be dangerous. Suppose your girlfriend doesn't think you listen enough, so she kicks the crap out of you. Leads to some unnecessary hurtin'
  14. There was an adult who came to our class. He had the suit, and he had the belt. He walked in and started talking all about the Martial Arts he had done, and everyone came to him to see what he could show us. My Sensei, Sempai and I were suspicious. Then a white belt came in, rather ordinary looking, but something about him was strange. It was a rather confident walk, not arrogant, just confident. We were doing are sparring, and the black belt decided to try this white belt on for size. We didn't use the Tournament rules, just free sparring. In no time at all, the white belt was wiping the floor with this black belt. It was hilarious. We later found out that the "white belt" really was a brown belt from Europe, and he came in a white belt to show respect to our Sensei, so that our Sensei could tell him if he could wear his rank. The black belt got his belt in Kickboxing, and thought he knew how to do Karate. We haven't seen him back since. I used to judge by belt. That one lesson changed my outlook about Martial Arts. Its not the belt, its who is wearing it.
  15. On the side of techniques, you can Kiai in a combinations whenever you want, same in Kata. In my style, there are certain places you must do it, but it doesn't mean you can't do extra.
  16. Seinchin I find is one of my Katas. That and Matsuma Rohai are Katas I enjoy just because of their balance of hard and soft.
  17. I'll get started right now
  18. I like the balance of Shi-to Ryu.
  19. I use the kiai right when the referee says hajime so its like me saying "here I am, come get some!" Also, for all the reasons mentioned above. Plus it sounds cool!
  20. Balance, everything about the Martial Arts is balance. You must be soft and supple, but be ready to be hard as a brick.
  21. Which one, Matsamura-Rohai, or just plain rohai. I know Matsamura-Rohai, the opening move is to bring your hand shoulder width apart with your fingers pointing down, then you raise them to your shoulders. This symbolizes someone grabbing your wrists, then by raising your hands, you go against the opposing thumb, and break free (which leaves you open to attack anything else at your pleasure)
  22. Traditionally the Founder of Wado Ryu trained with Ginchin Funakoshi, but they had differing views on Karate. He decided to make his own style which combined Karate with Ju Jutsu Rumor: It was also said that he was to succeed Funakoshi as Grandmaster, but since mastership follows lineage, they would not accept him. Same happened with my Grandmaster.
  23. Boy A (me) realises that there is no girls his age in his dojo, decides to look elsewhere. Boy A impresses Girl (alphabet soup) with courage and manliness. Who says that the Martial Arts are useless
  24. If you disect most major religions you will find that they all agree that there is one god. Look at a triume, they are all part of one. Islam, one god. In Hinduism, there is said to be one good, but each way you look at him, there is a different aspect. He is multifaceted, but still one. In Sikhism, there is one god, and his appearence and name is within yourself. I may be wrong, this is what I have found in my studies and my own quest.
