Kung Fu Quotes

I love to laugh at those old MA movies. We should get a club or something going on here about old MA movies. -
Welcome to the site

It is nice to go out and try new things. Those new things may provide an insight that your old style may not have developed.

I myself am not famous. In India, my father's side of the family were rulers of a part of India. My mother's family has been recorded in one of our ancient epics. So, my family has been around for quite some time.

Good luck to everyone in achieveing their goals.

Sparring techniques

Be respectful to everyone on this forum, especially a Sensei. That is a rule that is taught to everyone when they first start out -
Keep low. Then the hips will get involved making it much easier. If you try to do any movment while you are high up, you become top heavy. Do it low, you stay balanced.

Your own karate teacher should emphasize the self defence aspect to karate moves. That is what my teacher does. Ask him or her to go over a lot more stuff. I find that a lot of people don't even ask their instructors before they just leave and go somewhere else.

That is what I like about it. It is really simple. And yet, it is hard to find because you must counter act human nature. Some religious philosophies try to cut corners and say, well you can do this and its like doing this. I don't approve of that. Just get the job done perfectly. You will benefit in the end.

It is good that you have a lot to say. Can you next time try to make it into one post, please. A good kiai is important. It is your battle cry. That is why, everytime the referee says hajime, our club does this huge kiai. It is our battle cry. It's like saying, "here I am, come get some!" -
It is an ancient philosophy taught by Bhuddism and Hinduism. It is a part of Eastern culture itself.

It is amazing what people think of styles now a days. I may be contradicting some of my other posts but I have just come to this realization myself. It is not the style, it is what the teacher teaches you. Martial Arts was not about fighting, but about a way of living a non-violent life. If your teacher cannot embody that in his or her students, then the teacher has failed. I think we should put aside the style thing and judge people on what they do, not what they associate themselves with

I respect your decisions. I think some were a little apprehensive was because you two were symbols of this site. There seemed no one else like you two who were as devoted to this site. I am glad that you still come to the site, as your input is greatly appreciated.

TKD vs Karate
Karateka replied to TKD_McGee's topic in Choosing a Martial Art, Comparing Styles, and Cross-Training
The Shotokan karate section is a good place to find out things like this. I differ from those in Shotokan saying Shi-to Ryu is better because of the polishing that is involved. We are kata heavy but Kata is what helps you with balance in Kumite(fighting). Shotokan is all power, while other styles have different emphasis. Shi-to Ryu is speed and power. Goju-Ryu is tension and relaxation. Wado-Ryu is fluidity. These four styles are the main styles around the world and recognized by the WKF(World Karate Federation). Email anyone in the Karate section and we will be happy to reply. -
Good luck!

Not a problem, it is what these forums are for!
-
For tournaments, we will have to learn the Shotokan version of it. The new rules and all. Out of the 60+ kata I know 14! Not a large number but still a lot of Kata.
-
Not a problem, I practice Shi-to Ryu Seikokai Karate-do. It has about 60+ kata in our style!
-
Just learned Kushanku Dai last night. So sweet. Love that kata.

Make them think high, then go low. If you know they always gyaku, than make them gyaku and then move to their side and score with a head kick or whatever. Keep bouncing, use the entire ring to your advantage. -
I would go and wear a white belt just out of respect to the Sensei, then I would wait and let him let me know if I should wear my other colour belt!

I don't really know what to tell you. You could try looking on the net for basic self defence moves. If you really want military, join the military. -
Tell everyone you know! (11/21 is the day!)
