Angus is also talking about real life, I believe. Am I right there Angus?

I am sorry, I have no clue. If you ever figure out a way, let me know so I could pass it on to others.

I have noticed now more than ever, that when people think of techniques, they are always just two. You can do more. The more you do, the less your opponent thinks about them. When I think of a move, I plan it five steps after my initial testers, then I do the combo which is 3 steps in itself. It gets your opponent so bewildered, it makes him go nuts.

New, and A question...

The best art, in my opinion is one that tries to teach you physically, mentally, and spiritually, and keeps you asking questions all your life. -
TKD vs Karate
Karateka replied to TKD_McGee's topic in Choosing a Martial Art, Comparing Styles, and Cross-Training
I am a firm believer in that a person makes the art, the art doesn't make the person. Some arts may not pleasure your pallette. That is why we were given brains. All Martial Arts teach us that as we go higher, we can discard what we don't need and utilize what we do. -
All these points are good and should be taken with ample amount of consideration. Here is what I have learnt through my experiences. Whether it be a real life situation, a barroom brawl, or a Kumite match, attitude is key. Whenever in any situation, you have to have the attitude that "you can't touch me if your life depended on it!" Keep that in your head. You can't TOUCH ME! That way, I have never been able to lose that focus or posture or confidence. This doesn't have to just be in Karate, it can be anything to do with life. It is all attitude in the end.

Good points made by Angus, and he is right on most. The reason I still support Kata is that nothing is lost by doing it. Kata will always give you the balance that is needed for you to be able to move freely and do Kumite really well. That way, when you are in the situation with the big guy who is tougher, you won't move if he hits you and you are stable. So, although I myself am a fighter, Kata is still very important to me. -

When I fight, I am always a reactor. I feel that I am better at reacting than actually going and making things happen. That doesn't mean I can't do that, I just prefer waiting. You should always vary your techniques, never give away what you are going to do. -

Amateurs all of you It's all in the hips!

There is another defence. As they are kicking, go in and grab their thigh. Then grab their collar, lift up with your legs, sweep them, and score. Easy Sanbob (3 points in my thing)

It apply's to styles listed, and then certain affiliations. The National Karate Association of Canada is with the WKF. Karate BC is part of NKA. And my club is part of Karate BC. So I guess it has to do with companies. Quite unfortunate. I think that everyone will be switching in 2002 to the new rules! -

I have learned to only do that kick when I either know they cannot defend against it or I am off their line of attack. Then it is easy pickings.

A good opponent will counter that with either a gyaku tsuki or using taesabaki and moving away.

Chudan and Jodan hits are one point, multiple techniques, techniques to the back, and getting your opponent off balance is two points, and kicks to the head and total takedowns are three points. For the new rules, go to http://www.wkf.net and download them there! -

Put me in this game. I am a fan of survivor. I make fun of them all the time. Let me in!! -
As I got higher in my belt status, I began to see things differently and make my own changes to cut time and stuff. You should always have a Sensei that lets you do this. Some Karateka are going to teach later on, then they have to make their own choices.

Excellent work Sai -
It may just be your belt level. If you are a low belt level, you are supposed to do what your sensei says. As you get higher up, you can start to change things to your way.

To make anything faster it has to be light and aerodynamic. To make the kick light, relax every unnecessary part of the body. To make it aerodynamic, make it like an arrow, not a rock.
