  1. Nope, I wouldn't mind spending a few months in Korea some time in the next five years though.
  2. Indeed AnonymousOne, but fighting is an illogical process, violent, quick, unpredictable. We can't rely singlehandedly on our skills of evasion in a dark ally, two or three attackers nearby. Having a strong abdomen can only be a benefit to help you take punches. Also, a strong stomach will help support your back and keep it healthy in old age. Its also a fundamental source for power in your techniques. Of course, you just need a well built abdomen, not one of those 'Beachboy six packs' for that. Ah well, er, looks good for the ladies?
  3. YODA, I'd be up for that if you were I live in the county of Norfolk, South-East England... anywhere near to you?
  4. Lol, people seriously try to imitate him doing that? sad, sad individuals!
  5. I was fearing it might have been so, I think I may start Wing Chun in a few years if I can move.
  6. Welcome to the forums MOO, I hope you have a good time here and learn lots, I sure have Me? Well, I'm a 5th Kyu in Tae Kwon Do, but we have people from all over the world studying dozens of unique different styles... very interesting meeting place is this internet
  7. Any Kung Fu/Wing Chun practicioners care to tell me practice drills for Chi Sao? I'd really like to be able to incorporate this method of training into my current schedule and practice it with my friend, but there are no Kung Fu schools in my city.
  8. Attack with lightning speed, disrupt every rhythm they get going, distract them with plenty of feints. Let nothing through your guard. Dominate them through intimidation and superior fighter's mindset. Keep relenting, push yourself hard, everytime they get into something, block and hit back twice as fast. Sparring is a lot to do with not only technique and strategy, but mindset also. Someone who approaches sparring seriously with some confidence, but not ****yness, is likely to defeat a joker or an overconfident sparrer.
  9. Lots of both in the best ratio
  10. I'd say to determine the answer of this, we'd need to know what sort of levels of experience we are determining as newbie. For example, in my opinion someone who is a newbie is probably in their first year of training, and is not very knowledgable on the fundamentals of the style he/she is practicing, or the application of moves. However, in Joecooke's opinion, someone still learning any of the basics, despite how helpful and knowledgable they are of the art and to other people, is a newbie. Shall we get a common definition of a newbie here?
  11. I quite enjoyed the 10th dan requirements.
  12. Sorry, I could have written it a lot better, but it was written past midnight, while I was incredibly tired. I tried thinking up some more self defence moves, couldn't, decided to write something about life, wrote it poorly but the basic point is there, that balance is needed, and it can be hard to achieve in modern day's society, so people should make the most of their time. Doug sorry about missing all of those issues, I am only 15, tired, and so not taking into consideration all of the other important things of life. Some good things there that should be included however. My balance is a bit messed up at the moment, I've said my last good byes to my girl, no idea when I'll be able to see her again. My mind is all over the place at the moment, apoligies.
  13. Also for the best results, all muscles must be worked, and from a variety of angles as well. You cant just rely on crunches and leglifts, you need lots of different techniques working at various angles to get that visible 6 pack!
  14. My abs routine is this 8 Reverse Crunches 8 Crunches 8 Crunch Twists 8 Side V-ups (8 on each side) 8 Reverse Trunk Twists I do movements straight after another, using 3 "supersets" Every week, I up the amount of reps by 2, when a plateau is reached, I keep the same or lower amount of reps for that week. If that fails, which it hasn't yet, I'll start using a different abs routine for a few months before returning to this. The above 5 exercises work all your abdominal/oblique muscles from all 3 planes. It doesnt take too long and its pretty damn effective! of course, in my week off fashion, I'm sitting here with a large bar of Cadbury's Fruit and nut... cheerio!
  15. Try doing them going up to take 1 or 2 seconds, then take 8 seconds to slowly go down. If you dont want to do loads of these, just do a few to get the burn starting, then revert to the normal ones.
  16. Questioner, I'm always asking what happens if they do this when I do that etc. etc.
  17. hehe sorry gumby, I do actually have some respect and appreciation for some of the oldschool rappers that actually were lyrical geniuses, but face it, 99% of modern "rap" is a load of, erm, faeces? No offence ment, but the old stuff is a hell of a lot better than the new stuff. Ah well, I suppose the same can be said for metal, just on less of a ratio.
  18. In the constant struggle of modern life, and juggling of work, play, family, and training, and certain planned balance needs to be achieved to make the most out of life whilst still being able to cover the fundamentals of life. In a Martial Artist's life, there are several categories which can each be seperated and analysed: Work or School Work at Home Life at Home Relationships with friends Relationships with family Training Work or school will indefinitely take up a certain amount of time which cannot be adjusted, and then if work at home must be done to assist with this, the amount of time spent on that might be adjustable, but only at the expense of quality. It is important for the happiness and general well being of the person to keep contact with friends and family, and to have a healthy relationship to them, or at least to somebody (loved one etc.) since everybody needs somebody to be able to talk to, and share problems with and relax with. Training is purely optional, we do not HAVE to train, although for many taking the Martial Arts it becomes a part of life as important as either of the above, and it has been known to find the above two parts of life 'in the way' of training. However, what must be found is a simple balance between these parts of life. One must determine how badly they want to train, and juggle aspects of their lives so they get the work that needs doing done, manage to maintain a steady progress in the martial arts and also has time to unwind and socialise with others. You do not wish to overwork yourself and leave yourself with no time to appreciate all the other parts of life. If your job is very important, you may have to spend less time training and/or less time being with others, if you love the people around you then you have spend less time training/working, and if you love your training you may spend less time working/being with others, but often this does not happen. Work hard, train hard, and play hard... and take the time to appreciate life and make the most out of everything you are given. You only live once, work enough to get past without troubles, and train hard if you have your heart set on it, just don't forget to relax and keep your friends, your relatives and loved ones close to you. Sorry, I know this makes little sence since I wrote this after midnight, no idea why I wrote this, I just... did. May write it up again to actually make sence later, ok!?
  19. Hehe, oh yes three60, but, no, tis not a gun.. you call it a "gat" for some unknown reason, ok?! Yoda, you clearly have a great music taste. I agree with just about everything you've put down there, minus the few I have not heard uch of (Rainbow, Tom Waits, Gary moore and Thin Lizzy) Some pretty great stuff there. You might want to check out Pantera, their stuff is a bit like Metallica's You might find yourself impartial to Adema and Deftones, also!
  20. He got his butt kicked because he allowed himself to get pissed off by two jerks, and becuase he was pissed. Even when I'm drunk I tend to just ignore people like that, must be a special aptitude I have
  21. OK so I was about to go to bed last night, when I got one of my "Martial Arts Brainstorms" so I got redressed quickly, ran downstairs, got out a notepad and a pencil and started scribbling things down. So, what do you think about the following moves? Front Punch B starts left step back, and steps in with left foot while launching a Front Punch with left arm. A grabs onto B's striking arm with Left hand, and steps under and behind B, now holding his arm in a lock behind his back while facing B's back. Finally, A crosses his left leg behind his right leg, and "clotheslines" B with his right arm while straightening the knees and hips. B should land in front of A. A kneels down and delivers a Spearhand Thrust to B's neck, before standing up and withdrawing. hehe, bit long and probably explained very poorly there! Shoulder Grab B steps in with left leg and grabs A's right shoulder with his left hand. A steps in with right leg, wraps right arm around B's waist and grabs B's right shoulder with his left hand. A then crosses left leg behind right, bends knees, and then straightens hips and knees to perform a hip throw on B. Neck Grab What Joecooke007 said, if not then perhaps trying to perform some kind of hip or shoulder throw after the initial pinning their arms to your chest. Stranglehold B is on left side, slightly infront of A, with both arms wrapped around A's neck. A brings his left arm into chest and pulls back his left leg, before striking arm backwards and swinging legs forwards, providing a sort of lever action to knock B onto his back. Let me know what you think!
  22. I'd say it more depends on the Individual Practicioner's attitude and knowledge of the Martial Arts. If one is knowledgable, and trains hard, and picks things up quickly, and seems quite intelligent on many aspects of the art despite only having trained for 8 months, would you consider them a newbie? Individual, not belt rank, in my opinion.
  23. Yes, but how often do you see England win sporting events?
  24. lol My name is Jack, I am, er.. whack, I have a back pack.. I'm in the back, um..with, my smack. fo sho. Can I make millions now?
  25. Ad no, that sort of kicking cold comes with Dynamic stretching - Doing 10 swings forwards, side, and backwards with each leg twice a day and you'll notice gains within 8-10 weeks. Also when muscles ge tired and use up oxygen, Lactic acid is produced. I'm not sure on all the technical details, but a good cool down and stretching session after a training session helps with removal of this Lactic acid, which is the cause of the soreness. Also as Bon said, eat something with protein after a workout to help the muscles rebuild!
