  1. i wasted my life 3 years writting viruses and anti virus on and off although i never lunched any, i guess i could do better with my life. in early 90's viruses were simpler than new generation.
  2. find a better picture for home page, i am talking about two heads, i think the same about lady in kimono doing jumping side kick in living room. lineage of the style is not clear unless you don't care.
  3. Fukyu gata ich and ni is common amoung shuri styles but not all of them, if you wanna see the original form as it created, get the Nagamine tape (the son of founder of matsubayashi shorin ryu) it its include 2 fukyugata 5 pinan 3 Naihanchi (vol 1.) at least you see the real kata as it supose to be. i don't recommend the tape by Otta since it's kinda sloppy but you pay less for more kata(18). i just refered you since i saw Mr. George Annarino web site and i did some researsh about him and his style , it's kinda McDojo to me with Artistic kata tournoments and all. good luck
  4. IMO 12oz is the minimum for a good gi but i prefer 16oz( although harder to wash, my washer starts to walk in the kitchen when i am washing my gi).
  5. that was nice.
  6. i started to learn from my father, he is a shotokan karateka, we used to march up and down the room and he was teaching me kihon katas, i was off and on into martial arts like TKD and Judo too, till on day at front of a barber shop we were killing time till our turn, we been kicking each others leg with other kids, the barber came out and said ," you may injure your foot this way" then he kicked a 7-8" dia. tree with his shin, it was something you know ,the whole tree shaked. so he took us to his kyokushin/kongFu class and i stayed in martial arts from that day. did he have a shin guard on ,that day? we never know i guess.
  7. what is the part written in intalic?
  8. 1- i let a kid to pracice armbar on me and while i was explaning he jerked the elbow , healed after 6 months 2- i let a 6'6" 280lbs guy practce a throw on me, i got 2 cracked rib, healed after 1 year 3-i broke a fibula during soccer, 6 months in cast and i was doing karate too, finaly doctor said "get out of my office" 4-during a spar my sensei took his mouth piece out and tried to tell me something, i didn't see and punched him right in the jaw, still has problem . ..... i think i have paid around $4K out of pocket in last 10 years.now they found catracts in my left eye which might be because of impacts ,thats another $3k comming up.
  9. i don't think that you realy need to learn katas ahead of your level, also i can promise you are not holding things up, this is the way karate works ,there is no race , we go to dojo 2-3 times a week doing same things mostly refining the techniques so there is allways time for questions. still if you wanna have a book i recommend Nagamine's book in Okinawan karate, it mostly covers Matsubayashi shorin ryu but is a good reference, now for DVD i recommend a crapy production about Hohen Soken (" life of a master"? not sure) and white crane, you can find Naihanchi and pinan katas performed by one of the Hohen Soken students about 30 years ago, also some Hakutsuru kata and weapons. who is your sensei?

    Question

    what?
  11. my sensei let them have their belt inside our dojo but if we go to another kobayashi dojo with him they need to wear a color belt.
  12. huh?!? Hehehe, oops. Some feel comfortable calling him Sensei, others feel comfortable calling him by his given name. .....and Some feel comfortable calling him Sensei "Dad".
  13. i tried to post it but couldn't get the permission due to some karate politics involve may be latter or may be we meet one day.
  14. karate is not about high kicks or any particular technique we need to adopt the techniques(even the kata) to our body condition, i have right knee problem so i just avoid cheap kicks with right or landing on my right ,you do the same thing make your hand techniques stronger and fight based on your abilities.
  15. look for Shorinji Sanchin and Tsuru Sanchin both from Sanchin kata family and from shuri area.
  16. Nakazato has a set which too expensive plus you don't know what he is doing is exact kata or he is just too old to do them right, i wish he had made these tapes 20 years ago. i personally like the Matsuda sensei DVD/tape you can find it in Amazon.com we strong performance. Sensei Otta also has a tape 18 kata of Nagamine style but so boring to me.
  17. i allways though practicing throw with a belt and tree is a official pratice in Judo clubs, i have seen it in many judo tapes.
  18. A friend sent me this link, http://www.bia2.com/temp/Bruce_Lee.php
  19. the other day in dojo i was thinking that we practice all the defesive combinatins , it allways starts with someone attacking and we learn the combinations for countering it, so when we spare offensively we basiclly do what ever we can think of. or we do something we learned from others , for example i use kicking under a high kick which i learned from Sensei Matsui's fights in tournoments(Kyokushin Karate)or jab combinations i learned from my sensei every time he knock me down. so i asked my sensei the reason and he told me that in sparing there is a lack of comitment, you jab but you pull back quickly to protect yourself or you kick and chamber quickly back but in real fight people commite to their attack and there is no pulling back , this is a time that a martial artist can use his defensive combination to counter. what do you think.
  20. i've seen parts of it , and there is a DVD by Gorge Alexander i just don't feel right buying it and try to learn it from tape , kinda disrespecting my sensei, when the time comes he will teach me, if you got a clip upload it please.
  21. These are katas from different systems of okinawan karate, chinte,Gojushiho, unsu kara Shuri-te Anan-paiko,Heiku,Pachu are from Ruyei-ryu (brough to okiawa from Taiwan if i'm not mistaking) saipai is a Naha-te kata if you are familiar with animal forms you can recognize the animal moves within this kata, although sometimes it is hard to see them in Japniese versions of same kata.
  22. could you check 0n pachu kata, i think its a dragon kata. do you have a video clip of hakucho kata?
  23. these are mix chinese and okinawan, but even the original chinese may be slightly different from what we practice , for example Ni Ju Ken doesn't have kicks in original form but we do one toe kick in each step, all the kata with Hakutsuru name as part of them are from matsumura family Rokishu, i don't practice, probebly chinese Chorinji chinto is okinawan i don't practice Hakutsuru Mei is okinawan I practice this(short version of Hakutsuru kata) paihok is chinese we practice (has simultaniuse strike to eyes and groin) Hi tsuru ken is okinawan we practice (this is a complicated and long kata) Sho tsuru ken is okinawan we practice ( teach us to hit using body momentum) Tsuru sanchin is okinawan we practice (teach us to estend the penetration by turning from natural stance to sanchin dachi) Shorinhji sanchin is probebly chinese we practice (uses yang hand for blocking)
  24. Jion, i know you been in this art for a long time that makes you a teacher of art,so i wouldn't advise you to go and talk to your sensei. for me i 've been in same situation with darrel crage sensei, i simply left although he is a great man and martial artist. now a days i practice with a younger sensei in a more aggresive art(white crane karate) and feel happy although i gotta tell you I've sustained more injuries as well. i was with Darrel Crag for a year and i even started with a sever injury but i had no problem,it was a light work out all the times,in a sense it was perfect for me at the time, i guess i need to go back after some years. i think you should keep pulling them to your side it's better for them at the end. a shin kick to the leg may wake them up too, it happend to a friend of mine, a third dan shito-ryu and first dan Shotokan never had recieved a shin kick before. when he did ,it changed his view.
  25. this intirgues me, in particular the phrases that i've high-lighted. could you tell me more about these forms and their origins? In particular, what do you know about the "shouting crane" and do you know anything that might be translated into "sleeping crane" and "feeding crane" and a few other similarly phrased terms? i am not an expert but this is what i know Five Ancestoral fist is a diviation of old aimal styles of kongfu created by 5 masters of southern shaolin temple, one of the animals was crane Fang qiniang created her crane style based on his father style of 18 monks kongfu and her interpretation of crane movment this is yungchun Hi quan another off shhot is ancestral crane also known as sleeping crane another is shouting crane or whooping crane with katas like Hopporen and Nepai i refer you to "karate Bubishi" translated by patrick Mccarthy, he is intrested in crane styles so he added some extra material about different crane style, other refrence is Mr. Lindsey (Bastrop Texas) the katas i mentioned are the ones i learned through Mr Lindsey lineage, thats why you see a mixture of different crane styles, if you pass Houston Let me know, we can go over one kata together,
