  1. Gorge Alexander is a very good martial artist but he is not a crane expert , although he does the Hukutsuru kata his hands position has problem. i've never seen anything longer than Hakutsuru kata varients among karate styles.
  2. i look at it as ART, of course there is science behind it but like any other art, the artist doesn't need to know the governing laws of physics. i just remember once somebody said " acording to laws of aerodynamics bees can not fly, but bees doesn't study these laws and they have been flying for thousand of years"
  3. it means i am done with HOW , next part is WHY.
  4. these are some semi facts about Chuck 1-Area 51 is Chuck Norris' home address. 2-All Chuck Norris wants for Christmas is your two front teeth. 3-Major League baseball is retiring all of the digits in Chuck Norris's Social Security number to honor his achievements. 4-Chuck Norris remembers the Alamo, and he isn't happy about it. 5-Only once has Chuck Norris performed a poor roundhouse kick. He punished himself by roundhouse kicking himself in the throat... It was his best ever
  5. which shows you don't watch
  6. i am gonna buy "Munich" when it rleases,i just bought a new book shelf for my Movies, i may start to sell some of them on ebay it just getting out of hand.
  7. 3/4 turn engages all the muscles , retraction is faster too. i use it in my traditional shuri-te katas and white crane katas as well.
  8. if you wanna have balance in a static position without taking a deep forward stance, i think a wide sanchin stance works great, but in reality you need to stay 50/50 , bending knee is good since it brings the center of mass lower leaning forward may gives you a short term solution but you can be a traget of all the throwing and sweeping techniques. try this one: take a natural forward stance a little bit more than shoulder wide, weight 50/50, now turn your foot slightly inward less than 45 degree, bend your knee ,if you feel too narrow ,you can make it wider with your back leg, i use this during all the makiwara training when somebody kicking the board on my chest. if you are losing balance because of direct force take the step with rear foot backward.
  9. we need to now 1-5-6 kicks 2-less than 10 strike 3-4-5 blocks 4-8 prearrenged offensive combination 5-6 kihon kata 6-7 yakusoku 7-14 katas 8-some self defense 9-some kumite 10- mult. attackers this is our dojo but official test book of shorinkan is 30 pages and you gotta go through all of that,
  10. if it's a pulled legament it's better to take it easy, i had it , i tried to be carefull but it is impossible , finally i rest for 2 weeks, then i went back with a good brace and i stop kicking at all , no sudden move or jumping and i stoped streching that knee, i healed (or i think it healed) after 6 months, a bad ACL can cost you a fortun even with insurance still deductables goes around 3K-5K. first thing get a good $30 knee brace with metal supports. and DO NOT RUN a friend of mine had a lose legament and while joging lost balance and his knee collapsed ,febula almost tore the skin out.
  11. in my country(Iran) after 2-3 years , 3 days a week.
  12. i will try to get it out of koreans hand, they don't let anybody breath, no wonder some countries with good TKD (spain,Turkey,Iran,...) never becomes the world champion.
  13. he simply out classed you, he used his hand ,you didn't, he was smart in the throw since he didn't start good but then he pushed your left knee so you rolled over your right ended up under, on side control part you tried to rolle out which put him in your back and choke, you should have tried to roll in opposite way, when he was on your back it was done. with people like sensei Mertz you can't just mix in , start grabing with your front hand and keep the distance before engaging the back hand this gives you a little bit more time to think, anyway you can't expect more than this, you did well.
  14. if available i would rent since buying costs around $25 to $40 per DVD, i don't buy for techniques i am intersted in other styles katas,i just enjoy watching them.
  15. i noticed there is a greater chance of breaking your shin if you just throw it from low to high, IMO a shin kick should be done from high to low like a dead stick in a closer range. http://www.killsometime.com/Video/video.asp?ID=167
  16. if you want to have a standard library of katas ,i would suggest the KJA or JKF videos although you really don't need any at the begining,
  17. if you are switching the katas from your old style to this new one and you are teaching it to your students then i think they are right ,your taking their kata without paying for it, it is all about money any way, i never trained with Nakazato but i pay him through organization just for a stamp under my certificates.i think you can push their offer to grade up to shodan and join them,
  18. best of the best was pretty good, i think it was about a team match between korean and Americans
  19. i would go to a Sumo School.
  20. http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-3129576023382262747&q=karate
  21. lineage of shorinji ryu goes back to KYAN, he was one of the most famouse karate teachers of Shuri and tomari. katas supose to be exactly as ktan used to teach them so as far as being original it has one the best you can get, techniques or 70% hand %30 kicks , kicks are low and they use one punch knockout techniques, not sure about sparring but i guess it's full contact with gears on. they should have 10-15 katas like chatan yara kusanku, tomari chinto, tomari passai, rohai, matsumora seisan...
  22. i put it in this simple way, instead of saying technique number 56-80 covers x-kyu we do forms A and B. and we make sure nobody forgets the technique number 63 and 75 after 5 years as long as they do their kata since it's some where in the kata.
  23. could you tell us more about your system and katas?
  24. this is very general but here we go: 1- Sniper on the street > crane or snake based MA 2- tank on the street > Muai thai 3- marching on the street > shotokan 4-kick and die on the street > TKD 5-hit and get hit > shorin/goju 6-die fantsy on the street > kong-Fu 7-die like brouce Lee >JKD 8- UFC on the street > MMA 9- Korean speaking Japaniees on the street>TSD/happkido 10- physical/endurance > bjj 11 toughness > kyokushin/muai thai 12-they hitting you ,you are doing kata > shito-ryu just kidding
  25. keep that in mind that Saishu ryu is not a traditional karate system it's more like a jujitsu system not even karate-jutsu , so having lots of kata won't effect their quality that much since system is not just based on kata. of course you can't see a saishu ryu practitioner become a world champion in kata like a shotokan or shito-ryu stylist. i just don't see the reason for bringing all of these katas inside the system, in a video clip i noticed the saishu ryu pratitioner(may be the founder) performed a hakutsuru kata in deep forward stances and shiku-dachi(s) which shows the influence of shotokan.so why not just using shotokan katas
