Cannot leave dojo?
P.A.L replied to orion82698's topic in TKD, TSD, Hapkido, and Korean Martial Arts
talk directly to the sensei, if he is just a business act like a businessman ,you may bring it up at the front of whole class every singel class till he bans you from going to class. there are many way to bridge a contract just be smart and cool. -
i'll be here with you, i have 3 Gallons of water , five cans, one longbow and 4 arrows i will try to find a flash light but i doubt it.

https://www.wonder-okinawa.jp has 20 video clips of different okinwan styles, you need this software "net transport" most of them are hidden but i found them using this software. i have 100s of them or PM me your address i will burn it on a CD if you give me a little bit of time.

i've been like you , i started with shotokan i loved it when i was a kid. then i started TKD for sparing then i started shito ryu(shindo jenin ryu) mean while i was doing shorin-ryu , finally i felt shorinryu is the most natural fighting style among them, so i kept it but i still cross train with Judo,Bjj and others , about a year ago i got into family styles of okinawan karate like white crane and i was hooked, so now a days white crane and shorin ryu is my main style i still do sanchin for breathing techniques or Anan for heck of it but no more Tekies or heians for me. i strongly suggest you to see a traditional okinawan style, i never forget the first day in white crane dojo i only could stand one shin kick to my shin and i was on the floor , in less than a year just because of small improvment in conditioning i can go shin to shin with my sensei for at least 1 mintues before i run away, same with forearm conditioning. if one day you got a chance to come over here let me know.

what exactly you need we may be able to make one for you.

using fingers is like being a sniper and it's not easy to use pin point hit in a fight , most of the time you need to use them from front angel, on the side as it's been said you use punch or side of the hand, it is also usefull when you learn to attack off of you blocking hand so you don't need power behind it, traing fingers is very important for grappling , tiger(5 fingers) and crane(3 fingers) hands are famous for strong grips.

Shorin Ryu vs Goju Ryu
P.A.L replied to Dark Shogun's topic in Choosing a Martial Art, Comparing Styles, and Cross-Training
mixture of naha-te and shuri-te is shito-ryu -
is this shindo jinen ryu founded by sensei Konishi?
-
white crane is mostly based on finger hits, if you wanna use them you should learn how to position your wrist, bring your forearm high like a gaurd and drop the wrist the index finger and middle ginger hits together to finish the oponent, you throw them like spears, same hand can hit the groin with last two fingers. an open hand with all the fingers straight can hit the eye, yang hand block and throw the tumb in a circular motion to the eye, open fingers while they are like 45 degree outward make a crane block which can became a grab. push ups on fingers helps a lot try to do at least 20 every day.

kicks , forget the guy with $2500 and keep the money in your pocket, you may need it , i think 3 of you are making a good dojo , you really don't need another.

Hukutsuru kata is a part of shuri te ,comming from Matsumura. i don't practice Goju ryu but i am sure if you look around you will see more animal moves in your kata, like in seisan the open hand blocks when you turn back should be one of the animal styles.
-
i heard this from darell craig , he mentioned that Bunkai is the standard application in kata where a block is a block , if you use a block as a strike then it's oyo.
-
it's both name and elemnts of kata, for example i can see the elements of white crane in kata Tensho or kata Hakutsuru has the name of crane on it.
-
It certainly quite difficult to use much of White Crane's offensive techniques without hurting the other guy, isn't it? that's right , in dojo we use the blocks then skip the key part then we go to final hit or lock, my sensei has to use gloves in sparring otherwise he uses the fingers the streangh of white crane comes in thoughness of tendons, some katas like tsuru sanchin or shorinji sanchin are just about tendons thoughness. i saw this tendon thoughness in Dennis Rogers ,he was kind enough to stop by at our dojo for demostration , he told us when the muscles fail , tendons still work, all the practices he mentioned were some how related to tendons too. http://www.dennisrogers.net/indexStatic.php

P.A.L replied to karatekid1975's topic in TKD, TSD, Hapkido, and Korean Martial Arts
it is very common for kata competition to use something out of your style, shito-ryu is a good source for kata competition, is this a traditional open competition? -
my first shorin ryu sensei took us to a jujitsu/kong Fu school ,deal was to train in Bjj for 6 months , 300 each cash, we didn't signe any contract but 3 of us came later and signed some papers without reading it assuming it's the same deal as our, this was last year and this year they got a letter from a collector asking for 12x$120 , we trained about two months and we all left , school sent their contract to the collection agency ,we were not even in school whole last year. finally my sensei had to go their office they still asking for money he finally totld them if they don't call the contract back from collector he will go to school and will officially challenge the schools' Sifu , they finally droped the charges. i don't care if it's Bruce lee or Matsumura himself i will not sign any long term contract with them. my current sensei has a box and we just drop the money monthly.

i practice white crane but we can't use it in dojo sparing, i like it because it's quick and violent. katas are soft and i can practice them all the time.
