i heard he is the one who change the side kick in pinan yondan and kusanku to front kick,
-
first was Tomari chinto and second should be tomari Kusanku(different from kusanku sho and dai version although close to kusanku dai), as someone mentioned before technique was mixed all together

according to some history( right or wrong) Matsumura only teaches hakutsuru kata to Nabe, Hohen Soken version of hakutsuru is Hakutsuru dai which probebly comes from Nabe, there are many Hakutsuru katas from different families , most famouse is GoKenki, i only know three kata with "Hakutsuru" as part of actual name, Matsumura Hakutsuru sho Matsumura hakutsuru dai umi Inagu shihe Hakutsutu these are some of other white crane katas we practice Shorinji Sanchin Five Ancestral Fist So Hakutsuru Fukein White Crane Tan Hakutsuru Fukein White Crane Ni Ju Ken Five Ancestral Fist Shu Hakutsuru Ancestral Crane Rokishu Fuken White Crane Ryushoken Hohan Soken Matsumura Hakutsuru Sho Matsumura Family Matsumura Hakutsuru Chu Matsumura Family Shorinji Chinto Five Ancestral Fist Matsumura Hakutsuru Dai Matsumura Family Mei Hakutsuru Shouting White Crane Hitsuru ken shutsuru Ken Paihok tsuru sanchin these are all open hand hakutsuru katas , all the katas with the name Hakutsuru(that i am aware of) start with some move like opening of Kusanku dai. main thing about Hakutsuru is high stances , most of them are natural fighting stances, shiko dachi when power drops for a break or stealing balance , naihanchi when power goes up for eye strike, kicks are low and fast ,mostly in pairs using big toe,

what can i get for a pinan shodan?
-
most of those katas are beginers katas in "H" or "T" patterns, your actual katas are around 12 , in old time they used to practice a kata for 2-3 years but now a days by the time you get your black belt you will know them all. but it is not just the moves in kata, there are lots of details involve, knowing the moves is not same as knowing a kata. even a simple kata like fukyugata dai iech , when your sensei performs it ,doesn't look like a beginers kata.

who is sensei Ramon in Houston, some times my sensei mentions his name as a practice partner in 80's.

now, i am nervous too. -
your last choice ruined the Pull , shouldn't put it there, becuse it's a correct answer, 1 and 2 are not certaine and as you see most people picked up that one, if you take that one off,i'll go with street fighter.

you will have less problems going to a Goju ryu system compare to a shorinryu based japanese style like shotokan. you won't see any simillar kata and you won't have to adjust your kata a lot, from one okinawan school to another there will be changes in katas but not a whole lot, as i know, the north american shorin ryu organization some how connected to seibukan , what is your style of shorin ryu?

i would say "Hey buddy, i am a Jedai knight" or " buddy , i am yuda, and yes i look better in the movie"
-
i saw them in discovery, in the track one basenji was compiting with some grayhound , after to run, the basenji left the other dogs chasing the bunny, a sit on the track waiting for the bunny to come along and boom jumped on it, they did it again , the basenji didn't even bother to run, just walked to the track and sit there , he just ruined the game for others, it was so funny.

your wado ryu art should take care of standing fight, just keep moving. against BJJ this is what we do to our friends , of course they don't like it and they call us cheaters but what the heck 1- they put us in a gaurd , we straigh out our legs then we drop our knee to their groin area, 2- put us in arm bar , you gotta stand up while they are hanging then drop every thing down , and i mean everything include your whole body 3- we pinch them, we push our fingers under their ribs , what ever can distract them from their set up what is done is done , you accepted the fight so don't forget your mouth piece.and remember any one may lose a fight ,it's not a big deal.

i am pretty sure okinawan knew about other kicks they just didn't put all of them into katas, in okinawa karate was a martial art , a way to survive and to kill , when there is no rule if they trap your high round house kick they toe kick you right there you bring your hands down they take........,it was simply brutal. there was no room for kong fu kicks, i think it is normal that we see more kicks when rules apply compare to a no rule fight to kill situation.

linear and circular has nothing to do with okinawan or japenese styles, it is shuri -te and Naha-te being called linear and circular. soft and hard is part of karate in all the styles, they all have both. while naha-te has more soft moves compare to shuri-te. okinawan karate is based on limited low kicks either front kick( toe kick) or side kick, kyokushin being a japenese based style uses a wide variety of advanced kicks. of course now a days even okinawan karate uses more kicks but still less than japenese styles. i practice 12 white crane katas with 3 kicks , front toe kick, side kick and knee kick , in 14 shorin ryu katas salmost same, in sparing we only add round house kick with shin.
-
not too much difference, you may notice higher stances in okinawan styles, more varieties of punches in okinawan karate but less kicks,

he is a big mouth no doubt, i didn't read all the ... he wrote but please, 3 months with Yamaguchi and first dan? first year 3rh dan? from 3rd dan going to okinawa not knowing Suparinpei kata and some other katas ? i don't think so.

if you go through posts you can see some of us drive for hours before getting to dojo, i drive 1 hour from work opposite way to my home, when i get back it's almost 10PM , look around more, ask people, let others also help you finding a dojo it the best way, stay away from long distance trainig it just doesn't make sense.even if you find a dojo still ask others about condition (try not to sign a contract) be carfull about the way you pay them.

thank you = osu punch=osu hello=osu : : : osu=osu

1- Hi Tsuru Ken or Gojushiho 2- Anan 3-Kusanku

i think you did a right thing not letting him compete in a wrong division, in small tournoments because of small number of compatitors they can't go with normal 8 weight groups , if they make 3 groups still the weight difference could be around 30-40 lbs which is too much.but you could explained this to the organizer and try to get his money back though,

"I have only studied Shotokan kata via video training. Again Shotokan has since evolved from it's Naha Te Roots, and is a creation owned by Funakoshi. It has emerged as a Japanese Martial Art with Chinese Kempo roots." this can't be correct, Funakoshi trained most of his life in okinawa under itosu , he was not exposed to Naha te enough to use it in his interpretation of karate anyway thanks for posting these paragraphs , the section about Mabuni's arguement about katas was intersting, i don't know if i can find his book anymore.

Miyagi got his karate from Higaonna who was not a big man and shorin ryu comes mostly from Matsumura who was not a man with small posture.

i think you need to build up muscles to around 70kg, as mentioned before this will increase your speed too.
