  2. there is no tip, just hang in there, it will be all gone within 2 months. i promise.
  3. i think everybody likes to help here but , for one ,i can't understand what you are asking.
  4. it's very nice to hear this kind of hard work, it may look impossible but there is no impossible, i really think you will be more convincing if you post some of your notes or articles and let others read them, the subject you have worked on are huge , you can write theses on body mechanics or sport medicine or some others you mentioned. I have a master in Mechanical engineering and i read every single article i can find about biomechanics since there is no end in gathering information and knowledge. if you achieve this level then it is your responsibility to share with others (at least i think this way) and one powerful tool is to post over the internet , IMHO this is what you need to do, other than that being a little dragon from age of 2 or switching from Nijitsu to jujitsu to shotokan to Goju ryu and some kong-Fu is not helping ,in contrary it damage your image. You may say that you don’t care what people think about your martial art philosophy but the fact that you start posting on this forum shows your concern.

    Hangetsu

Pers, thanks for the input , i am with you on higher Hangetsu stance, if you got any clip please share it. here is Naha-te version of Seisan http://www.gojuryu.neu.edu/video/Seisan.wmv here is shimabuko doing his version of shuri-te Seisan http://www.twinriversmartialarts.com/MPEG/ShimabukuKata/Shimabuku_Seisan_Kata.mpeg this is another shuri version http://www.nd.edu/~tyeh/karate/video/Seisan-Hangetsu/seishan.WMV this Gentelman I think doing the Kyan version of seisan , i used to do seisan just like this in a shito-ryu school. (deep stance and it turns forward) http://www.kangaeru.be/video/seisan.mpg here is a Uechi ryu version of Seisan http://www.kyusho-uechi-ryu.co.uk/images/Seisan%20Kata.wmv Here is Hangetsu according to JKA (not sure) http://www.karate-trier.de/kst_10_fotos_videos/videos/Hangetsu.mpeg another Hangetsu which looks like extreamly deep, http://www.bushido-lubwart.de/lubwart.de/downloads/hangetsu.mpg as you can see, in general the seisan stance is higher than Hangetsu, and I really don't feel comfortable using the stance in the last clip as my close quarter stance.
  11. i was amazed by the way he handle the arm bar, it looked like he was not concern at all, at the same time he was working on matt's leg. also the way he scaped , he knee kicked matt on the rib and tried to sweep, this gave him the chance to turn his forearm in, and matt didn't try for kimura. he was not KO at all and i think Refree could give him another extra 5-10 sec. in replay i could see most of the matt punches were brushing over his temple, but i think BIG JOHN is a excellent and smart refree, if he stoped it then so be it, although i lost $50 extra to $75 dinner/service fee/gratitude fee/bribery in a packed bar.... not worth it at all. i was suprised that more than %90 of people were Graice fans.
  12. i was watching this movie "Ong Bak" and notice the main character is doing a form at the early parts of the movie, could any one give us more info on these forms and what the call them.

    Hangetsu

Hangetsu is a close quarter stance and therefore not a deep stance ,it sure is a very strong stance that works great in close combat helping to provide powerful techniques . I agree that it is not a breakfast kata ,but I find the first 6 moves of the kata invigorating in the morning to say the least ! The breathing combined with slow moves harmonise mind and body and bring in a sense of calm and assurance to practitioner . I have never done Tai chi and don't know much about it ,but when ever I watch Tai chi I get the same feeling ! i am agree that hangetsu stance has the potential of a close quarter stance based on foot angels but the way it's done in the kata is low for practical fighting, i would prefer a higher stance like Okinawan Seisan (shuri-te) or Okinawan Seisan (naha-te).
  14. i don't , but i found this intersting, chinese version of Sanchin,
  15. in our school ,the sensei doesn't let any hands on the hip, both hands up all the time, among ourself we even change the standard yakusukus in a way that both hands stay high. when we go to other schools as guest we throw the punch from hip , but in general any previously block/punch karateka comes to our dojo needs to adapat in two things 1- both hands up all the times during applications and sparring 2- back foot and knee pointing a little bit forward instead of 90 degree angel like kekutsu dachi.
  16. by Wushu i meant chinese boxing but i didn't wanna use a specific style so i used the general name , Wushu which means "martial art" in Chinese.
  17. but how many katas are valid? well what ever is out there is valid but are these realy different or are the same kata? let's say passai. i believe there are 3 of them, 1-Matsumura Passai ( passai dai in shorin) 2-Itosu Passai (Passai Sho in shorin) 3-Tomari Passai (passai in Kyan lineage) now rest of them are off shoot , we can even say Itosu no Passai is a off shoot from Matsumura no Passai. if i am about to study the history of Passai then i will start and spend more time with these two or three.
  18. shorin kempo should be Okinawan kempo which has some of the shorin-ryu katas in the system, chinese kempo is something different, in long run, shorin kemo takes you toward karate, and chinese kempo will take you toward wushu.
  19. use windows paint, open the file and go to IMAGE then clik on "stretch", use 50% for both V and H, then SAVE AS with new name and JPEG format. a 500k should shrink to 70k.
  20. i leave it in hot water for 30 min, then i hang it outside while saturated with water, but i don't think it shrinks 2 size, plus sometimes some of the better gi(s), has been shrunk before.
  21. your question about Kyokushin has some truth behind it and is valid, but i gotta tell you that i have watched many years of Japan full contact championships and Kyokushin fighters are the most winers.
  22. Next time i get a giftcard from Amazon.com i 'll buy it.

    Punching

in reality a punch never starts from hip, in self defense or sparing both hands are up all the time. everything comes into jab and reverse initiated from your fighting gaurd there is no corkscrew punch in a real situation, every single time you will get hit if you may try, don't even wind up, every punch should get it's power buy utilizing body mass/momentum. i've been tought 2 things in Okinawan karate(not sparing) 1-if the front hand blocks then the same hand should strike out without pulling back , the back hand should deal with the reverse punch 2-anytime possible block/parry with the back hand and in the same time strike with leading hand a simple example , Right long punch is comming , in traditional basic Japanies karate( self defense) A- I shift to left and do a middle block my reaction hand is now on my left hip and Right hand blocked ,now i fire a corkscrew punch to the rib cage. B- in Okinawan Te version, I shift to left my left hand(back hand)parry the punch the Right hand blocks and traps the punch, now the back hand fires a vertical punch down to the rib without pulling back using body weight, C-in a White Crane system , I turn back to a small "L" stance off the attack line, the back forearm blocks the punch and the front hand tumb takes the eye in same time. in this system both hands are open and high all the time, so even a haymaker punch wouldn't pass. as you can see there are many different approch for the same move but the first one is the slowest.in kata application you can look at the hand on the hip as a pull. as Brandon mentioned ,the power can generate through hip no matter where your hands are positioned.
  24. wasn't that Desmond sitting in the "others" camp when they brough Michael in?
