Contrary to the popular belief..... EVERYONE IS A RACIST.
-
You paid real money for Smash Brothers?
-
Its simple. If i wanted to play a fighting game i would go on my playstation open my mouth, drool, and press buttons constantly in random order to win a match in a fighting game. OR I could go on my computer and play a complex game using the mind, and a variation of strategies.

Ok Junior, here's what you do.... you go up to that mean man and kick him as hard as you can between the legs! Yes daddy!
-
Everyone has seen Enter The Dragon where there is a huge training camp with guys in white suits punching back and forth... then Bruce Lee enters..... WUTAH! SLAP SLAP! In Korea TKD at least is nothing like that, no one stands around in their suits and punches or does forms in straight lines... they train in their shorts and have a good time! Anyways i think this WUTAH! stuff and uniforms with neat formations is all based off of hollywood since martial arts just came here in the 60's or so.. (To the Masses) Some people look just funny moving their head side to side like bruce lee and yelling WUTAH! before a match. Or making those whining WUAHHH! noises during a match. Does anyone here do that? Is it suposed to make your opponent uneasy? I think some ppl just do it because they can.

I think that the Stomach is the most important part of Martial Arts besides the arms and legs. (Lungs oops!) The Stomach determines whether your fight or flight. A single unprepaired blow to the stomach can end a fight fast or make you a punching bag in sparring. Anyone who has had the wind knocked out of them because of incorrect kipay should know! Go newbies! Therefore, a six pack is important. If your stomach muscles are strong you can take more hits to the stomach. What are some of your ways to get that famous Six Pack without using equipment?

Officially not a newbie anymore...

Official WTF TKD has only 10 ranks, then it goes into Dans which are past the Black Belt. It depends on the art really. -
When do you consider a person officially not a newbie anymore? Yellow Belt? After 1 year of training? After being a fluent Sparr'er?
-
Nope, but i seen a black guy on a nike commercial do it... Monkey see Monkey Do!
-
That is natural though... just rub your muscles and relax. If anything breaks dip it in salt water, if anything is sore dip it in Epsom Salt. Its like Karate Kid all over again...

Do you see it?

I think someone should call PETA... hehe -
Religion in Martial Arts
TKD_McGee replied to AnonymousOne's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
"Peak performance for mind, body, and spirit..", seems to be the motto for many places. They blend in Buddism because martial arts are from buddist areas and many buddists took up this to defend themselves. Many martial arts incorporate buddist idealism for calming the body and meditation.. I personally do not believe this should be forced on students as a requirement to do well in martial arts. This is the only thing that kept me away from Aikido. -
Ok - how's this for starters

"I saw Bruce Lee on TV, hes cool.." or "I read stuff about Bruce Lee he's one bad mother.." I think people are affected by what they watch and hear... some people join martial arts because they saw it on a video game or movie.. -
USA has some good stuff despite all of they Jean Claud Van Damn movies... Those movies are pretty bad... I can't stand grade B martial arts movies. I think Chuck Norris is worse than him. Quality = Jackie Chan
-
Has anyone seen that show? It is about people who are in the special forces that go to compete against each other in military based exercises... they can also vote each team mate off after each round or so... I thought it was a good show, neat change from Survivor series... it is a lot better.

Same time blocking and punching
TKD_McGee replied to AnonymousOne's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
The world record is what 9 punches in under a second, or was it 3 seconds... Anyways, I think it takes immense arm strength to effectivly perform these moves. Bruce lee was not only strong but fast... Imagine the speed it took to block/hit someone at the same time and doing the tight muscle / loose muscle hit technique... The man was just amazing. I wonder what the founders of these martial arts were like.. there must have been some great legends.. -
Never thought it would happen, did you!?

Is this still about the girl thing? SaiFightsMS, testicles are not invinsible. 2v1 anything goes. -
What do you expect when you go to the Bible belt and try to open up a BUDDIST martial art like TKD? The Definition of Red Neck is a communist labor union party organizer in the 1920's. Heh! He was probabily going to give the testers some hell!

Yes I know what they are.. im just saying that the common person shouldn't do it or they could get hurt... Not everyone is a wirey, athletic, and agile person...
-
Yea you switch sides after the first side gets tired... I still disagree with doing the clap push-up and doing the jump pushup... I think those styles can be dangerous for most people.
-
Endurance and Strength are the key. Not just strength. Big weights are for Muscle Heads.. Very few people can do big weights in many reps... Stamina is not hog wash buddy, Hogwash is doing 5 reps with 40 pound curls... Ok Yoda so you need explosive strength but that is very limited? You dont want to punch a few hard times then get tired... you need endurance and stamina over strength. This goes to the strength vs skill argument in the general forum... You don't see any muscle bound jocks doing martial arts do you? Most of them are slim and fast like bruce lee.
-
Jack, when i first started TKD I could only keep my leg up for about 5 seconds or so.. If you go home and work on raising your legs and doing the basic snap kick every day in sets your leg muscles will gradually get stronger and more astute (<-- !?!?!) to keeping your leg up in the air for kicks.

All you really need is some Free Weights... buy whatever size you are cumfortable with. You can do much with free weights.. All that other stuff is expensive and you hardly use it as much as you would a free weight... Free Weights, and pushups are all you really need. I personally use 25s and do 3 sets of 60 pushups.. If you get big weights and do few reps it will do you no good, you will have low stamina and big arms... If you can get little weights like 25s and do 25-30 reps like I do then you will have greater stamina and look bigger over a longer period of time.
