  1. Well, I changed style from Shito-ryu to Wado-ryu. My Sensei allowed me to do all the tests and gradings from white in Wado-ryu to my old rank I had. And I made it. I'm glad I didn't have to start over again from white and wear white belt. Some instructors want you to start over again from White and some of them let you keep your belt, but do all the gradings, like I did. It all depends on the instructor. But of course, I'm pretty sure no karateka can keep his/her old rank and not doing any gradings or tests when style is changed. So, there are usually two ways or choices: 1) do all tests from white to your old rank and then wear your old belt and continute in the new style 2) get a white belt and start all over again I bet you all would choose the second , but it's the instructor who decides.
  2. My favourite of the Pinan/Heian katas is Shodan (Shito-ryu style).
  3. Yeah! Chatanyara Kushanku is my favourite, also Annan and Nipaipo is pretty cool too.
  4. Hmm.... power comes from the floor... That's very interesting..
  5. Well, you can't change the belt colour. The more you post, the higher belt you gain. But just at a certain number of posts. Yes, you have a good point, I agree. Because, if one person only practise karate and only one style all the time, this person won't 'feel' the differences between the katas or see any differences between different styles, this person won't have this (how to say it??) umm... this so called 'feeling'. I mean, it's the same like, you've read only one book and you know more less about things than others who have read many books. That kind of person won't know the 'feeling' how it is to practise another style or many different styles, he/she won't realize why or what might be so different between those all styles. It was like that when I begun karate and the first style I practised was Hayashi-ha Shito-ryu. And when I moved to Estonia, I had to start over again and I had no choice, so I took Wado-ryu and at first, I just didn't understand what is the difference. I made no difference when I did Pinan katas, I did Jodan Uke like Shito-ryu Age Uke. Now, when I've practised for three years, I finally understood and I have this 'feeling' when I do one Shito-ryu kata and one Wado-ryu kata. I feel that Shito-ryu is more quick and light, halfway to kung-fu and Wado-ryu is a bit harder, not so circular movements, no open handstrikes (except Seishan), and very simplified, for me it feels like it's not a soft style. I don't know how other people take it, but I feel so when I have to compare those two styles. My brother does kung-fu, he practised Judo and Karate before and I've seen how he does Kung-fu katas a several times. Even I have practised with him a bit and I can feel the big difference between Karate and Kung-fu. Kung-fu is like... well, when you fight, it won't stop, the open handstrikes, punches and everything come after one punch, after one kick etc. But in Karate, we do ich, one punch, then ni, next movement and san, kiai! Totally different. And I'm quite sure, I won't practise Karate forever, I have a desire to do other martial arts too, and I think it's right to do many different things, than just one thing.
  6. YAY! That's cool! I'm from MKD in Sweden! I mean... I was, but I visit them a lot and everything, i love them! I love in Estonia right now, that's the problem, but I keep practising shito-ryu here. They won 2nd place? cool! i'm happy!

  9. I chose this avatar I have right now because it looks like me
  10. I've read somewhere that both are Chinese in origin, but Anan is mainly used by Ryukyu Kobudo and Okinawan Kenpo, while Ananku is present in many other styles. This suggests that they are different. I am really not sure. I have seen ananku demonstrated before and tried it once or twice, but it isn't in my system so I don't know too much about it. You sure change your avatar quite frequently...is that a mood thing? I dont know, there are just so many avatars I like that I cant decide what I should have forever so I keep changing my avatar all the time, kinda fun.
  11. i've noticed on some websites about shito-ryu that they've said: 'annanku is a complete version of annan. ' strange, but if they're so completely different then why some say it is a complete version, what the..?? or maybe they haven't actually seen the both katas? now... I have to see those both katas! I'm gonna see how different or how similar they are....hmm...
  12. ok..........hehehehhe
  13. but... is Annan and Annanku similar? Or are those two katas totally different? I was just wondering, because hte name is almost the same, only the -ku is in the end.
