  1. One of my pretty dumb swedish friends said to a Sensei: 'I don't believe that you're so strong, I don't think you can beat anyone with your punches' That Sensei said: 'Oh yeah?' And kicked him so the guy was on the floor, saying: 'okay, okay, I'm sorry' I yelled at him later, he's so stupid! God I can't even believe he was my friend!
  2. Well.. I had to spar once with a 5th dan Sensei who was the most "honoured" and scariest Sensei of all Sensei's in Sweden. All brown belts and black belts stood there in one line and the Sensei clapped his hands so all disciples ran to those Sempai's who were so-called "mild and gentle" ..that means: karateka's who weren't so scary, lol. The disciples almost struggled against each other to not be the last unlucky one who had to spar with the scariest 5th dan Sensei. ..so... I was 11 years old and I didn't give a crap to who was scary and who wasn't, I just tried every person, lol. But I was really slow too.. I mean, I was always thinking or dreaming of something and that's why I was always the last one. So.. everyone had chosen a partner to spar with. And I don't know what the heck I was thinking at that moment, but I kinda noticed 10 seconds later what was going on. All Sempai's were taken and the last one who wasn't taken was.... the extremely scary Sensei with 5th dan, lol. I didn't care though. I was like: whatever. So I got up from the floor and bowed to him. Everyone stared at me like: OMG! She's going to spar with THAT SENSEI! .. Anyways, that was great fun though. I mostly smirked all the time I sparred with him, cuz I wasn't afraid at all (lol! and I'm like, still wondering how could I even think: whatever!) and he dragged me over the hall and I struggled like crazy
  3. ohh!! ooo yea.. now I just remembered the good old times when our Sensei wanted to see every disciple doing a kata with their eyes closed. Some of the students started with their kata near the Dojo entry and later found themselves at the end of the hall when they had finished the kata. lol! it was funny to see their faces, one kid even said: "Yikes, how did I get over here??" hehe..
  4. Mars attack huh?
  5. listen to your Sensei, don't doubt, because yeah, thats right, you have to do Uchi Uke like a circular movement, not too circular but not too straight either. Yes, we exagerate hip movement in katas. Specially when we do zuki's/punches. My Sensei said that you get more power by using the hip too, by twisting it or something.
  6. me! i'm a shito-ryuka here. but i dont know Kosokun Sho/Dai kata though. =( well, anyway, if you have any other questions, maybe I know the answers, so just ask.
  7. well, I got this one http://live.quizilla.com/user_images/T/truly-dippy/1061402544_oprevenge2.jpg ya! that's pretty accurate..
  8. okay, I've never learnt that kata (I've said that before right?), but I will, I hope. I've tried to do that jump, but umm.... the floor is of stone and it's very hard. My best jump is the Wado Ryu Wanshu kata jump. I've kinda beaten everyone with it, lol.
  9. well, thanks for correcting me. at least now i know how to write that name properly. yeah, it is a nice kata, i like the fast movements.
  10. another kata I really wanna master is Chatanyara Kushanku.
  11. i'll better not take the test, cuz i'm dumb and clumsy anyway. ... idiot too, btw.
  12. I guess. what's the name of the gang?
  13. you're learning one of my favourite kata's..... and i have never found any sensei who could teach me that. i hope i will in the future. i'm gonna master that kata. it's my target in kata's.
  14. um... okay, i wont lie, yea, i've done everything, so ...well, I guess I'm crazy then. lol
  15. Ok. So, in conclusion, everyone thinks we have to breath. Yeah I know we have to breath while doing a kata, but for example in Wado-ryu they dont breath at all, at least, you cant hear it. What I asked was about Shito-ryu. I've heard it's a bit similar to Goju-ryu's breathing. But the problem is, my instructor tells everyone to breath too loudly, isn't that kinda fake? I mean, if you breath too loudly, the power will get lost instead of keeping it. But of course, we have to listen to our Sensei's. (my instructor is not even a Sensei yet! She has 1 dan). She hasn't practiced Shito-ryu before, she just started and now our club changed style from Wado-ryu to Shito-ryu. So, it's normal she might do mistakes. Should I go and ask or tell her? I've practiced Shito-ryu longer than her and from my experience I know that we don't breath loudly in Shito-ryu. Anyway, thanks everyone.
  16. lol. i like that, oh fireka...........
  17. My instructor says that in Shito-ryu we have to breath loudly when we do katas, not too loud, but you hear it anyway and it is quick, as you do the techniques. But, my Sensei in Sweden, who has 5th dan in Shito-ryu says: no breathing. (he means, not like shotokan karateka's does). And another Sensei who is my instructors Sensei in Shito-ryu says: don't breath like that. He was here in summer and taught us, later he went back to Sweden and will return again in winter. While he's not here, my instructor tells everyone to breath (almost like in shotokan). And everyone breaths. But they don't do that normally, it looks kinda fakey, like you're forcing yourself to breath loudly. I think that's wrong. So, I asked my instructor why they have to do like that, and she said: because it is effective. Then I asked my swedish Sensei and he said that they don't breath because they think it is fake to do it only because of effectiveness. I'm kinda confused now. So my question is, do you breath in Shito-ryu while doing a kata or not? I know that you have to breath in Seienchin, Suparinpei and Kururunfa, but in every kata? I'm not sure if that's right. So, Shito-ryu practicioners, I need help from you, what do you know about breathing in Shito-ryu?
  18. aaw, poor guy. and I understand him..
  19. maybe... .......yeah, you're right, i knew him well and trusted him, he always cared for me and i felt like he was a member or my own family..
  20. that was nice of you. thank you. and.. i guess you're right.
  21. I'm the Nonconformist. (5) pretty interesting. it was all right about me.
  22. In Sweden, I sparred two times with my Sensei. (He has 5th dan) I was only 12 years old. And I remember what feeling I had: no fear. I just dont know why, I never were afraid of sparring with bigger, stronger, scary karatekas, lol. But now, I live in Estonia, I'm 15, and I'm more afraid of that. I don't know why. I've lost something when I left Sweden, I guess... I lost the spirit. Some Sensei's though, say I still have it, and I have to let it out. But it doesn't come out. I'm competeing with katas now. But when I look at karatekas who are doing karate, I kinda feel how I miss to be instead of them, fighting with all of my heart.
  23. I remember that day I decided to start practising Karate. My brother had a Karate tournament. He was competeing in Kata. I was sitting on a chair, in the public with my parents, to support my brother and see how he competes. The first kata I saw was a Shito-ryu kata called: Chi No Kata. I remember how my brother did that. And I loved it. I felt how everything around me went silent. The only thing I saw was the Kata, the white gi and the white belt. And then I thought of myself. I pictured myself doing that Kata. I liked it, because I felt how something inside told me: start practising Karate, once you can do that Kata too and wear that white gi. I turned around, my mom was sitting behind me, and said: mom, I want to practise Karate, it's so cool. First, my dad didn't like that idea, but my mom thought it was great. I was affected of the white gi's the karatekas were wearing. They all seemed to me somehow special and different from usual people. I wanted to be one of them. So, I went to that Dojo, no matter what my dad said, and started practising Karate. And guess what? The first kata my Sensei tought me was Chi No Kata. It was also my first kata I competed with. And the frist time I was at a competition, I won with Chi No Kata. And a few days before that, I just got my first, new white karate gi. And the emblem. And I'm still wearing that gi, it is getting a bit old and the white colour is getting dirty, but I still wear it, because I love it so much, it was a gi I got from Sweden and I feel good in it, it is dear to me and always will be.
