  1. Allright! Here are some links to sites where you can see Shito-ryu kata videos: http://www.shitokai.com/kata-5.html - this is a very good page! The video shows slowly, so you can see exactly what's done in the kata. http://www.seishinkai.ch/ - a Shito-ryu site in german language. Just click on the Kata name (Pinan Nidan, Sandan ..etc) you wanna see, then click on Kata. http://www.uechi-ryu.com/videos/tc_videos.html - Look down a bit and you'll find a video clip where you can see a Shito-ryu karateka showing Seienchin Kata. I'll post more later...[/url]
  2. Umm....ok, lol sansoouser.
  3. In my Club, we practise a lot Kata applications.
  4. Yes, those cat stances are very used in Shito-ryu. And I've seen that Kokutso Dachis are most used in Shotokan and Wado-ryu. I practise Wado-ryu too. My club practises two styles: Shito-ryu and Wado. A club with two styles. But that's because, before I came to that club, they only practised Wado-ryu (because Shito-ryu didn't exist in Estonia then), but when I came from Sweden to Estonia, I started to teach people in this club some Shito-ryu and now my instructor is pretty glad here, she changed our club to a club with two styles. And that's cool, cuz now all those karatekas there do Shito-ryu katas at competitions, no one wants to do Wado-ryu. Well.. that improves something.
  5. Yeah, i think it resembles kung fu in some ways. It focuses on both quickness and power. Minakami Karate Dojo ROCKS!!!!!!!!!!! Wohooo MKD Seattle. Happy to hear that someone agrees with me about Shito-ryu reminding Kung-fu! Yea..... MKD rulez! One question.. do you practise in that Club? If you do then that's so cool!
  6. Well, now I also know what Kofukan Shito-ryu is!
  7. Yea! I agree with you about Shito-ryu. Moto-dachi... yes I remember when I used to practise Kumite at MKD in Sweden, we did Kumite on one line. I mean, shito-ryu karateka's never jump around and move really freely, they're more like with one stance, on one line, back and forth, like in Traditional Japanese Kumite. Yeah, I also feel like doing Kung-fu katas when I do Shito-ryu katas. And Chatanyara Kushanku..... god that kata is awesome! I've got to learn it now! I love the beginning of the Kata. And the first to blocks or strikes you do in the beginning of the kata are open handed and that's what I mean with 'open hand strike'. I don't really know how to describe what I mean exactly, but yeah, it is like Shuto Uke and Mawashi Uke. Do you know that Kata: Rohai? Well, you know in that kata, after you do this crane stance, (open hand, or palm hand strike, something like that), you do a Junzuki Dachi and then you turn your hand, and the hand is open. And you perform it slowly. That's what I mean. And that is what reminds me of some kind of Kung-fu or Wing-Chun. Yes I know, it's too bad, first when I started to look for some Shito-ryu kata video tapes in internet, I didn't find any! But now, after a big search, I've found some places actually. Would you like me to tell the links to those sites? I'll gladly tell you, cuz I know how hard it is to find ANY shito-ryu stuff here. Oh yeah, our "shito-ryu group", that sounds good! That's also why I posted this topic, because I want to see some shito-ryu karatekas too, not only other styles.
  8. Umm...that sounds bad. But, I think, if you want to practise Shito-ryu, if you actually like that style, I think you should practise it, becuase defeating someone isn't that important, right? You would be a good Shito-ryu fighter, so I think you can go to another Shito-ryu club, you don't have to practise in that Club where this stupid guy is.
  9. Hanko-ryu? Hmm....sounds interesting, I didn't know about that either, now I know thanks to you. Yes! And it is so cool lives together with Kobudo and Iaido, because I love sword arts!
  10. I only knew about Kenwa Mabuni, I didn't know about Shiroma Shinpan. Well, thanks for telling me that!
  11. thanks Shorin-ryuu!! I'm very grateful.
  12. Now I'm even more confused
  13. aww! Poor you! What a pity! Well, I think you're a good fighter. I don't think defeating everybody means that you're full of anger, or that you're too violent. That instructor is kinda strange.. Yes, that style is very light and quick. And yes, it's good to use it when someone attacks you, I've used that style to protect myself many times. It helps.
  14. Allright, I've seen many Shotokan and Isshinryu topics, but no Shito-ryu ones (maybe only one topic). So, I thought I'll post a Shito-ryu topic to discuss anything about this style. I've got some questions for the shito-ryu practicioners here. Do you think in some sense, Shito-ryu is a bit like kung-fu? Does it remind you a bit of it? For example some open hand strikes or movements in katas? I've noticed it is a bit similar to kung-fu, even my Minakami Karate Dojo instructor in Sweden told me that. Do you agree with that? Second question: What do they pay most attention to in this style? Is it power, quickness or something else (I think it is quickness, right)? I know pretty much about it myself too, but I still wonder, because I have to teach some disciples in my Club and I'm the only one in Estonia who is able to do that and it gets me kind of nervous sometimes , I have nobody to ask, so I thought I'll ask people on this forum. I need some advice and a bit more knowledge (even if I know this style enough), so let's discuss about Shito-ryu. I look forward to it.
  15. my favourite character is... umm... wait, I have to think about it. ..... ...um.......hmm....I think my fav. is Xiaoyu (I hope I spelled that chinese name right )
  16. HHAAAAAAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHA!
  17. Umm..... my swedish instructor used to say: "power comes from the hips when you punch, so do it". And I've always thought he's right....
  18. I practise this style and I like it very much. It is a quick style with many quick and light kata's, it reminds me of kung-fu a bit. The slow open hand movements/strikes are so cool in this style. In Wado-Ryu, I never see any open hand movements or strikes in katas.

    Kata

I used to do that Kata at competitions, and this jump works really fine on me, but Unsu......... still gotta practise
  20. Marvel vs. Capcom is pretty fun. Tekken is good too, but not my favourite. And Samurai Shodown is the best!
  21. I like Jet Li too, I've also got a One Upon a Time in China video, and yea it is great.
  22. My favourite Martial Arts movies are: "Shaolin", "The Barefoot Kid", "Sanjuro", "The 7 Samurais", and: "Kakushi toride no san akunin" (I dont know it exactly in english, I think it's something like: "The wild adventure")
  23. Some kids in my Club use to do like this when they do a basic kata: "Block, Punch, Punch.... ummm.... KIAI! ... Punch, block, punch, mawatte (turn around, unfortunately with the wrong foot), .... then; ooops, umm... (turns back and does it again), punch, punch, punch..... punch.... (then realizes that she/he did too many punches and..) KIAI.. eh... hmmm... oh right the Kata has already ended, I forgot! (bows and leaves, while blushing of embarrassment)." I have to repeat AGAIN: "kids are amazing"
  24. SAME HERE I've done that many times when I practise kata. "ouch.."
  25. well, nice you found it
