  1. I had the same problem. I moved from Sweden to Estonia and I had to find a new Dojo. I didn't know what to choose, so I asked my Sensei in Sweden what he thinks and he said: "The style is not important, important is who is the Sensei". And I went to many different Dojo's, talked with different Sensei's and chose the club were the best Sensei was. My mom and dad looked at his rank, but for me what mattered, was the Sensei's personality and how much he reminded me of my swedish Sensei. I guess I just missed Sweden. Anyway, I made a choice, and two years later, I realized how much weaker I've become. And I changed Dojo again, and this time, I looked for a Sensei who really cares for her/his disciples. I found one who cares more than others, who really takes that time to teach a disciple individually. I'm stronger now and much better, but not as good as I was in Sweden...
  2. in what kyus do you become strong? It depends, especially on the person.
  3. I'm so stuck with one style, one Dojo and Karate. I love that style, I love the Dojo and I love Karate. But I've seen many masters who can do many different styles and has done everything, not only one thing. And usually, they are even better than those who do one thing all the time. I'm a green belt right now, I wanna reach my goal in Shito-ryu and get at least a black belt, so later I could focus myself on other styles. But, I don't know if that's right. For example, my master has black belt in three styles. The problem is, I just don't want to leave Karate like that. I've strained hard for many years to get somewhere with it, and if I leave it, then everything I've done would just be a whole waste of time. I really don't know what to do. I'm kinda confused. I absolutely love sword arts and Ninja's. My real Sensei is right now in Sweden, he will come to Estonia in winter. He has done many styles and he has chosen one of them - Karate. He has done Kung-fu, Iaido, Kobudo and so on. One of my biggest dreams is to learn how to fight with a sword. So, I have two choices: Kendo or Iaido. Also, I like the way how Ninja's fight, so maybe Ninjitsu. Should I wait till my Sensei comes here and ask him if he can teach me Iaido? (actually, I have two Sensei's, one of them is a woman and she's the instructor of this Dojo, but the other one is the Sensei who is practising Shito-ryu and is teaching her that style so she could teach us, in the Dojo). Or should I leave Karate, like fireka did? If I leave Karate, then I have to go to that Sensei, who is teaching sword arts to his disciples (and theres only one in Estonia! which is kinda frustrating), and if I continue with Karate, then I can still practise Karate and I have to do extra trainings, because I belong to the estonian female Kata Team. And at the same time, my swedish Sensei comes to our Dojo and teaches us, and he can do private (or how to call that??) trainings for me, to teach me something else than Karate. What do you people think? *sigh* it's not easy at all. But the problem is, I like so many things, there are so many things I'd love to do, but then again I love karate too and I cant imagine that I would not practise it. anyway, fireka chose not to go to the Dojo, and.. well, I guess that was a right decision and I agree with him. It's better to do everything, than just one thing and to follow only one Sensei. That's great if you listen to everyone and see many different ways, yeah.. that is the best way to get a well rounded experince in the Budo. oh well........ *sigh* any opinions?...

Hmm.. well, it's kind of sad, cuz I can't immagine if I would stop training at my dojo where I have all my friends and everything! Oh well, I guess it's a little bit different for you... keep practicing at home then... but what about your tournaments? does it mean you're not competing anymore? anyway, keep the karate spirit.. even if you're not going to your dojo anymore.

  21. Hey, I just found a site where you can see Seienchin! here's the link: http://www.uechi-ryu.com/videos/tc_videos.html just to let you know, it's the 7th pic. (first i didnt even see it when i was there, lol)
  22. Great! Yeah, actually, Kunibakai Motobu-ha Shito-ryu (what a long style name, lol ) has some differences in Seienchin kata. I'll see if I can find any site's where that kata is shown....
  23. Don't over-strain. It's not good for the body, it ruins your body. You have to let your body rest too.
  24. Wow! You're going to Okinawa? That's cool! I'm planning to get to Okinawa too, if not now, then later, cuz I will visit Okinawa anyway in my life, I just have to, I'm a karateka. So, you're going to the Naha region? I like that. I study Shito-ryu and it is a bit similar to Goju-ryu. You know the kata Seienchin? That's a Goju-ryu kata and in Shito-ryu it's our main competition kata. It's a Naha-Te kata, if I'm not mistaken. Hey, if you will go to Okinawa and when you return, tell me about your trip! ok?
