  1. hahahaha! lol, and I know exactly what you're talking about cuz I actually had a Sensei like that once, in Sweden. He was my first Sensei, a very honoured one and I still look up at him like a little ant and miss being his disciple again. All disciples were afraid of him though, lol, so it was pretty funny every time he said: 'Okay, you there, come here, I'm gonna show how to do gyaku zuki etc etc' lol, and the guy was like 'Ooooh maaan! *gulps* o oh' and weird is, I was a young girl then, 11 years old and I didn't fear him.
  2. I checked out the site. The game seems to be cool.
  3. they're making a seven samurai videogame? omg! I haven't heard of that! guess I'll have to buy that game then
  4. i like both kata and kumite. But I compete in kata.
  5. hey let's start a revolution together! cuz I like the concept of white and black too. lol
  6. well yeah, what's wrong with it? I like the mask and the black kimono, looks cool to me. You know what? If I will get that kind of uniform once and the mask then I'll put it on and take a photo of me and I bet I'd look more like a russian assassin in it.
  7. The man with the short staff was very skilled. And that's staves you're talking about, not swords. They're very different weapons. Trust me, if you have a short sword and your opponent (of similar skill to you) has a long one, your opponent will cut you before you reach him nine times out of ten. Hmm....yeah, maybe you're right. But you never know. I'm gonna try with both swords.
  8. Hey that's not what we're talking about here, you're way off topic. So don't mess this up. I don't wanna get this thread locked because of your jokes, lol.
  9. omg, god I love Kendo! I just love the black kimono and the mask, it looks so cool when you have those clothes on and hold a shining sword. I've actually thought of studying it, but I don't really know, since I'm going to take Iaido..
  10. lol! so fireka, now you too huh? ...I think I told you before, my swedish Sensei promised me to teach me Iaido (if you practice Shito-ryu and want to get a Shodan in it and pass the gradings, you have to know Iaido and Kobudo too). But the thing is, not many from my club get to study Iaido. So, I was really surprised when he said: i'll teach you Iaido, I promise. All I need now...is to get to Sweden and to his Dojo! ...if I only could do it now *sigh*, I won't probably get back to my home untill I'm 18 or so..
  11. hahahhaa! ... good sense of humour, lol
  12. but hey, have you heard about this man from Japan (cant remember his name right now) who had a short Bo in a fight and his opponent had a long one, and the man with the short staff won. I actually had a dream of myself fighting with a short sword and my opponent had a long katana (there was a master who told me that I have to win my opponent with a shorter sword) and so I took a Wakizashi, fought with him and won.

you know what? Here in Estonia in our Dojo, we just take our karate notebooks and watch a kata video in slow motion and put it on pause to look at the movements more carefully, and write down the whole walkthrough of the kata. And now when I practice the kata, I just take a look in my notebook if I forget or have to look through something again. That's how I learn all my gradings and katas.
  15. I like those swords because they're shorter than katanas and it's easier to do quick moves with it. I've been interested in swordmanship for a long time and a Wakizashi sword is the one I would feel good with, if I would hold one in my hands. So, what I'm curious about is... has anyone got to train with a Wakizashi? Or does anyone own this kind of sword?
  16. well...It really depends on the judges and referee. But sometimes, they're not fair, it has happened to me too.
  17. Shito-ryu is using this coloured-belts system. I personally don't really like the belt thing, I'd prefer just white and black. The question of belts has always been discussed... I usually think of kung-fu, they don't use belts, so they rather focus on developing your mind and spirit instead of thinking about technique and basics.
  18. Umm.... okay, seems like this club you're training at isn't that great. I've been in a karate club like that and a lot of people just hurt each other and were mean, I immediately understood it's not the right place to train and practice something I love, so I went to another Dojo and it was way better. So I think you should just search for another club. Good luck.
  19. I definitely didn't say he MUST master a style, I just meant he needs knowledge about those styles, or just the style he's practicing right now. It's all up to him. So, don't get me all wrong. Actually, you shouldn't say he'd fail at all and 'master' either. Because, who knows... People develop and evolve all the time, there's no end to it and no you can't say: he'll fail, because it's his way and if it feels right then let's better say you've done a good job.
  20. look, he doesn't have to truly master anything, because it comes with the time anyway. Of course he has to know different styles, but he doesn't have to get Shodan in every style of karate (Wado-ryu, Shito-ryu, Shotokan, Goju-ryu) and he doesn't have to 'truly master' the arts of Karate to develop his own style. It's enough of one or two styles to master, to feel the way of these styles, since it was actually the same with the old masters, Funakoshi, Kenwa Mabuni and so on. When he knows the differences and similarities between the two styles, he can distinguish other styles too. It's the same with me, I've tried like 3 different styles and I can just tell what's different about some other styles when I see someone doing a kata or the way of training disciples. He knows what he's doing so I wouldn't say he's going to fail, that's kind of overdone to say 'he's going to fail'. You shouldn't have such a pessimistic thought about a creative person with a true martial spirit who wants to develop his own style.
  21. Yeah, I think it was rather the other way around.
  22. yesterday, we had to do Shiko-dachi for 1 min, Nekoashi-dachi and zenkutsu-dachi for 1 min! But I managed to do it, lol, it was a bit painful though.
  23. OSU is correct.
  24. Yeah, my favorite irish fairy from the Legend and it's also my mom's name.
