First of all, I would like to say that entering the tournament takes a lot of courage. Remember it is not whether you win or lose. It is that you learned something from your experience. Keep a good spirit and have loud kiais because that is the important thing. Good luck.

Do you talk about it or not?

I would say yes. -
I have a middleweight gi the instructor provides. I just got a green trim on it and a patch on the sleeve.

I have a belt test soon and part of that grading is sparring. I would hate to say this, but I am not good at sparring of any kind; point, free sparring. I only just recently purchased sparring gear because I never really have been interested in sparring . At one time I was good at sparring. When I was white belt 1 year ago, I got told by my instructor that I'M was better than half of the green belts at sparring. Now, I am testing for green belt and my sparring is really bad. I get told by higher ranks that I can't spar Are there any tips you could give me to improve my sparring technique? How I Spar I mostly just do round kicks, back kicks, 360° jump round kick. I also do side kicks and a jump snap kick. I rarely punch. When I do, it is usually a backfist or just a regular punch. Thanks![/b]

Failing Students.
FangPwnsAll7 replied to Dobbersky's topic in Share Your Testing, Grading, or Promotion
In my dojo people rarely fail. However, our last grading back in december, they failed a white belt. Our instructor doesn't even let you test until he thinks you are ready for the next rank. I really don't think my dojo likes failing people. -

Well I've entered a TKD school to observe the form. The instructor was the only one that knew I was a striped orange belt in tang soo do. The instructor was nice enough to let me take 2 classes that day for free. I think it was obvious to others that I took some type of martial arts.

I got bullied up all through middle school. I'm now 15 and in 9th grade. I started taking Tang Soo Do classes and transferred school districts at the start of 9th grade. I'm happy I enrolled in a martial arts school because I am more self confident now. I learned to stand up for myself. I love karate now and I'll never stop going because of how much it has helped me.

I am testing for my green belt in 2 weeks. I'm kind of nervous for this one because this the black belts say that the test for a green belt is the hardest test to pass. I have to do form 5 pyung ahn e dan. My break is the elbow break. I don't know what it's actually called. I'm confident I'll pass this grading. The date of the test is march 1st Friday.

Orange belt with green stripe tang soo do.
-
This isn't really much of a question. Just a discussion. I have took Tang Soo Do for 10 months and I'm 7th gup (orange belt, green stripe). In class a few weeks before the most recent belt test, I heard someone say they always pass everyone until you get up to a red belt. I had a test at the beginning of December, and there was this one white belt that failed the test. Then, everyone made fun of her because she failed. She was only 3 years old, and the instructor even thought of passing her to yellow belt. But the instructor can't pass anyone without permission of the grandmaster. Now for my thoughts on this... the grandmaster only passes people who they think are ready to move on to the next belt, and that's a fact. It doesn't matter the age, the personality. What matters is the enthusiasm, the spirit, and whether or not you know the requirments and understand them. I discussed this with my friends from karate, and I have had opinions from both sides. What is your opinion?
