  1. I am 16. I didn't feel as if I was ready
  2. At class yesterday, my dad asked if I could test early to save money. My instructor said that he will watch me in class and then decide. He kept calling out my mistakes and making them obvious. He said, "What makes you think I'll let you test early if you can't even do a low knife hand block?" It was embarrassing to me that he was calling out my mistakes. I feel like the instructor is treating me different because my dad suggested that I test early. I really was upset that he was calling out my mistakes and telling me that I can't do any of the combinations. My dad is letting me choose to go to this one with the instructor or the other dojo. I do like the instructor better at the one I started back at today. I have friends at both dojos. You're probably asking yourself why I am torn between the two dojos. Well, there are students who were a bit mean and disrespectful when I used to go there. Yes, I attended both dojos... I just can't decide if I should go back to the old instructor or stick with the one I transferred to. I'm kind of leaning towards going to the old one I started at originally. I went to one class at the old one (I haven't been there for four months) and I liked it. I really liked it. I am really leaning towards returning to the one I started at, but I don't want to regret it later. Any help would be appreciated. Like, what would you choose to do and why?
  3. I just found out that I passed for my second GUP. I'm getting my promotion sometime this week. I'm excited. Thanks, everyone!

  6. First, I just wanted to say that I went to a tournament yesterday! I wanted to share my happiness with everyone because I won first place in forms and second place in sparring! I also have a belt test next week. I am confident about it! I'm testing for my stripe on my red belt!
  7. That's awesome! Thank you for sharing!
  8. I practice outside a lot.
  9. This is me doing form one with a bong. I was being weird at the end, but I was just happy my staff came in the mail. Here is the video! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g7Rae9EOB4U&feature=youtu.be (I'm a girl, just to clarify) I want to improve my technique. Thanks!
  10. My instructor sits behind a table with three other instructors and runs a belt test.
  11. I have a red belt in Tang Soo Do.
  12. I tend to look at the chest to the feet. I can see their movement.
  13. There's one family training together. The mother and her daughter are both orange belts.
  14. I wouldn't get involved with dating at my karate school. I like one of the black belts that goes to my old dojo, but I don't think he likes me. I have seen that. These two kids have a crush on each other and I think it's kind of cute.
  15. At my dojo, everyone gets treated with the same respect regardless of your rank. It should always be that way.
  16. Welcome to the site!!
  17. When I spar, I tend to back up when the opponent attacks. I realize I do the same techniques so they know what's coming. I'm a red belt, and I sometimes feel bad for getting defeated by lower ranks. I know I shouldn't. Sometimes people tell me my technique is great, but I need to use it in sparring. I try my best in class and I'm great with everything else, but when the instructor says it's time for sparring, I freeze a little inside. Is this normal that I'm afraid of sparring? I don't even think that's the right word, but I want to try different techniques to help me improve my sparring. I have a tournament coming up in May, and I feel I can ask for help here. We're doing point sparring in the tournament, if it matters. Thank you!
  18. I started weapons training at 3rd kyu. We have bo staff in our dojo. Weapons are a red belt and above thing. We sometimes have red belt classes just for weapons training and red belt techniques. It's the first Friday of every month. Being a red belt myself, I'm somewhat experienced with the bo staff. It's best to start when you're ready. I must say I was ready long before this, but I didn't start actual weapons training until red belt.
  19. I'm glad you found a dojo!
