I'm sorry to hear that. I would get the shoes. It can help you run better. If it makes the pain not be there anymore, then they can be really useful. You have the money, so why not?

Don't Take Your Instructor for granted
FangPwnsAll7 replied to Dobbersky's topic in Instructors and School Owners
I would never take my instructor for granted. I always train with what I got. I know that some other students, who are a higher rank than me, train badly on purpose, as if it were a joke. Let me just say that these students laugh and act immature. It's sorta picking up on the blue belts even, but not all. The white belts are better behaved. I always do what I'm supposed to. I'm a yellow belt so maybe if If I behave in the dojo then the higher ranks will. -
I know. I hear people saying that TKD sucks all the time. It really makes me angry. There is a good in all forms. Even though I don't even take Tae kwon do, I know that there is nothing bad about it and doesn't deserve to get bashed on. I mean, ATA is a 100% McDojo... and personally I'd never think of taking karate there. No offence though. Any other TKD would be just fine though.

My instructor makes you wear everything except for the mouth guard (optional), or you're not allowed to spar.

Well, you know he's going to show you ones where Muay Thai wins. He wants you to think it's the best, but it's not. No karate is the best. They all have their benefits.

What is the weapon you are learning/will be learning next?
FangPwnsAll7 replied to AustinG010's topic in Martial Arts Weapons
I'm learning how to use a bo staff currently. -
I play video games, mostly Nintendo. I own the Nintendo 3DS and some games for it like Pokemon rumble blast and super mario 3D land. I have Mario kart 7 but don't play it much. Also I like Pokemon. My favorite Pokemon is Feraligatr. It's the Pokemon in my avatar. I play some other games like Animal crossing. I can't believe I said that here, sorta embarrassing. But yeah, I'm looking forward to this new Animal Crossing coming out for the 3DS. I have it pre ordered. I went to the midnight release to pick up my 3DS. So I got it the first day it came out. I have a YouTube account and I make videos but won't mention it here.

How much and how hard is your Karate training volume?
FangPwnsAll7 replied to Ueshirokarate's topic in Karate
I train hard all the time. It's the only way I'm going to improve. Our classes are one hour on weekdays, and 2 hours on Saturday. The other hour on Saturday would be used for sparring. I go 5 of the 6 days. Usually, the day I skip is Friday. -
My thoughts on this is that it can help you improve your punches and kicks when you are fighting with a group of people; or at least more than one person. You can learn how to block from behind, after striking a move at the target you're facing... A lot of benefits to this.

Do you have to be a black belt to have embroidery on your gi
FangPwnsAll7 replied to Willard814's topic in Equipment and Gear
In my dojo, you can't have any embroidery on your dobok until you are green belt. Any belt before that, than no. You're not allowed. I don't really see what the big deal is though. It's only embroidery. -
My balance needs improvement, as well. I use Kwonkicker's balance drill videos on YouTube. It seemed to have helped me. I haven't lost my balance at all in karate today. Good luck.

Yes. There's always weird people creeping around these areas. It is absolutely necessary. I would find the biggest, baddest, meanest person and bash their face in if they were trying to attack me. /sarcastic Actually, I'll just walk away if I could. I'm not the type of person that goes looking for fights.

Hello. How did the advice go? Any improvements so far?

Would it be a bad idea to enter a tournament as an 8th Kyu?
FangPwnsAll7 replied to BarbedTerror's topic in Karate
I don't know about anyone else, but I for one think it's a good idea. It could help improve your karate. If you lose, you can learn from those mistakes and improve. I am entering one soon as a yellow belt and soon another one as an orange belt. It's a great opportunity to see how well you can put your skills to the test. -
I think it depends on what you mean by mistake. Are you talking about a blatant error or simply having your foot at a wrong angle or may be doing a wrong block or maybe a kiai in the wrong place. Even the most experienced instructors make mistakes, ie slip into a move from another similar kata etc. My own Chief Instructor made a slight error this evening and corrected himself (he is 8th Dan and 45 years Karateka) so to fail someone for making even one mistake seems unrealistically harsh and would put undue and unwarranted pressure on the student imo. Its not really about someone being ready, you can be absolutely ready and still make an error, noone is perfect and mind blanking happens to the best. I mean like when you are doing a form, you do the wrong form or do something completely different. Like when you're supposed to turn right you turn left by mistake. If you do this, they most of the time fail you. Especially if it's a higher belt.
-
I'm not sure how to respond to that. It's ok that you've left that karate school. It's nice to see you found a better school. Good luck there. I don't really think it is anyone's fault that your previous instructor had OCD. I'm sure you'll do good in the new dojo. Of course there is time to develop. After all, there's no harm in trying.
-
Our dojo is really strict. If you make even one mistake, you fail. But that usually doesn't happen, because my instructor doesn't allow you to test until they think you're ready.

I train 5 days a week. Monday, tuesday, wednesday, thursday, and saturday. I don't go on Friday, and the school is closed sunday.
