the problem is that 90% of the karate schools out there wont teach you realistic self defense..and simply advertise that they do...false confidence is a dangerous thing...

K-1 rules are the best for Standup fighting. MT is a bit more bruatal with elbows and more knees from the clinch
-
i have "heard" some people do it so they can get out of arm bars/leg locks, etc easier...but im sure most of it is just cosmetic.
-
really what "guys" are champs? Tim sylvia, Tito Ortiz, Chuck Liddel, Vanderlai Silva, Antonio rodrigo Noguiera, Carlos newton, BJ penn, matt hughes, murillo Rua,Tank abbot, Frank Mir etc etc etc ..and I could go on forever have all trained in BJJ to some extent.. No stlye has had as much succes a BJJ..now other stlyes are cross training in it and having succes with their own tactics.

The reason why Top boxers would have a better chance at winning against top Muay Thai fighters is this- A) Boxing has a MUCH LARGER talentpool because of how big it is. B) Muay Thai fighters from Thailand are usually much smaller and are not heavyweights..i seriously doubt there is a boxer who could compete with them at their weight class. Dont get me wrong boxing is great and no one does hand better than boxing but MT is alot more brutal. Just out of curiosity have you ever sparred with a Muay Thai fighter? If not i would suggest findnign a gym and trying it out.

That is a very weak argument, no single stlye can compete with todays MMA fighters. but you know what Just about every single top Fighter today has trained in BJJ to some extent..it is just about a neccessity whether you are a wrestler or a striker or whatever...so your argument dosent hold much weight

False, outside of his Pancrase fights Frank has lost one fight to john Lober who he destroyed in their rematch...Frank went undefeated as the UFC middle weight champion. Ken Shamrock is the the one who lost to Royce at UFC 1.

TJS replied to hobz's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts

Judo without Gi?
TJS replied to Venezolano's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
If it sport grappling judo might be good choice but in general yes Wrestlers as usually pretty strong. -
so if someone did tap would you let them go?
-
LOL that is a load of crap..what Gracie has beaten frank? what BJJ practicioner has beaten frank?
-
that would be point sparring that means if you touch me with a back fist before my elbows hits you in the jaw you get the win...
-
I dont think it has many "Weak" spots but you can always learn more from specific stlyes.. for example Boxing is always going to give you better hands Muay Thai is going to give you better kicks/knees BJJ is going to make you a better ground fighter. it really does cover just about every range of the fight but you can always go to a stlye that specalizes at that range and improve in it.

I belive Kajukenbo is a pretty well rounded stlye. I dont know a whole lot about it but I have heard some good things. of course alot depends onthe school/teacher.

Muay Thai or Shootfighting?
TJS replied to Anzie's topic in MMA, Muay Thai, Kickboxing, Boxing, and Competitive Fighting
a pure grappler usually has a better chance of beating a pure striker.
