The K-1 homepage might have some Andy Hug highlights. btw striking is not allowed in Sport grappling BJJ..only mma
-
I didn't say that anywhere in my post. I said the article is extremely bias toward it's own style. There's pleanty of traditional schools that don't teach as many "realistic" techniques as they should. But the article insinuates that none of them are any good. ok, but on a side not it is a martial art's academy that teaches traditional aswell.

mma means mixing martial arts..you said okinowan karate was superior to mma...so okinowan karate is only superior to mma if you are mixing effective modern stlyles? -
your talking about a vertical front kick aimed at your midsection right? what are you doing to defend it/redirect it? Technique wise.

some stlyes have alot more o f Mcdojo syndrom than others..

I though you said Okinowan Karate was better than MMA? -
16 oz gloves can create bad habits.. you can kind of use them a shield when you block..covering you head/face since they are much larger than your hands redirecting punches is also a bit more difficult..along with other small habits you pick up...sometimes you throw punches you normally wouldent because your hands are protected. But generally i think the benefits far outweight the losses.

I agree. I'll push it as long as I can, but when it gets to the point of causing damage I'll tap. exactly if you are to the point where you cant get out then they could obviously do some damgage if they wanted to..tapping out just means "yea you got me" ..it's just practice. -

I think it's pretty stupid to not tap out durring training/practice... -

Aikido vs. Hard Styles
TJS replied to ronpo's topic in Choosing a Martial Art, Comparing Styles, and Cross-Training
No, I would advise them to learn Krav Maga. -
i used to think that but really the rules force fighter to obtain a higher skill level...i mean you can just lay in someone gaurd and headbut them..alot of the tactics they got rid of were not fight enders anyways. but the old ones are fun to watch.

Aikido vs. Hard Styles
TJS replied to ronpo's topic in Choosing a Martial Art, Comparing Styles, and Cross-Training
I think its possible that it can be used in a self defense situation but For the most part if someone is looking to learn how to defend themselves I think there are more efficent ways.
