TJS replied to JohnnyS's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
thank you...ceratin techniques are certainly effective but I hate how people try to overuse them as an argument for everything. -
Judo without Gi?
TJS replied to Venezolano's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
alot of judo throws can be adapted to suite Gi less fights but honetly i dont think anyone has better takedowns than wrestling I have heard stories about Wrestler with Zero judo experience entering and winning Judo torunament by smaling them all with double legs. -
I would hope that you would not be waiting for a tap in a real fight..
-
why would those two be your only options? what are you looking for in a stlye?
-
No, the point was KM does have ground fighting incase you get there but you goal is to get up instead of go for a submission attempt...although we do learn them..

TKD or JKD?
TJS replied to REYS77's topic in Choosing a Martial Art, Comparing Styles, and Cross-Training
because its very difficult to find a good JKD school since its really a philosophy and TKD mcDojos run rampant.. but i was half kidding -
or to test their skills instead insead going into a real fight on bling faith.

BJJ, Boxing, Muay Thai its similar to those at certain ranges...but you could benefit from any I belive. -
so if someone starts yelling and comes at you punching then it's diffrent if they do that inside a ring? There is a diffrence between self defense and fighting but once you make the initaal defense you are proabably going ot be in a fight unless they decide to give up.

because unlike holwood portrays it it's not soo easy to hit someone in the throat/kick them in the groin and karate chop them in the kneck.. boxers get sloppy with technique because they weear gloves so much..thats why its good to hit the bag bear knucke sometimes.

What if your a Hybrid between-

no the question was if he had never trained in BJJ and instead trained in TKD would he be as good as he is/was? The answer is no, I know it, You know it and everyone else knows it.. Stlye is not everything it eventually comes down the the person it can only give you the tools..but to belive all stlyes are equal is a bit unrealistic.

Countering the BJJ fighter
TJS replied to ZR440's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
well if he is good a BJJ then he should know how to counter a Guillotine..but i agree that I would proabaly attempt one if i got ahold of him. -
americans are lazy and want McDojos..

i have heard of fighters training in water..Bas Rutten has several excercises in his big book of combat.

your whole argumen is that Boxing is great unless you get tackled..my point is that TKD does not teach anything more effective than boxing to avoid takedowns and boxer atleat know how to clinch. Thats great, now they are not learning that from TKD are they? are boxers not allowed to learn grappling as well? does TKD teach takedown defense for double and single leg type takedowns? no..if they learn it it is from another style. what does that have to do with takedowns or boxing? another thing that has nothing to do with anything. you are underestimating the boxer guy, and you know nothing about him. who says he's only trained boxing? like the coach I mentioned in the example above, he could've trained multiple styles. -see how if i take the word TKD out and replace it with boxing the same can be said for your original post?

Training Camp
TJS replied to Nai Khanom Tom's topic in MMA, Muay Thai, Kickboxing, Boxing, and Competitive Fighting
If i had the time or the money that would be somethign i would truely want to do. -
Unless you get tackled. I know of a school that teaches TKD, the instructor is a former Olympic Bronze medal winner in TKD in 1988 olympics, so he teaches very much sport TKD. I've had a couple of his students say the same thing I commented above. Great stuff in a fist fight, but if they get tackled, show is over. as opposed to TKD? like they teach any takedown defenses..boxer can at least fighti n close...TKD does not even teach clinch fighitng..
