TJS replied to thai_boxer_no.1's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
Brazilian Jiu Jitsu has tournaments ..Usually Traditional Jiu jitsu does not in most cases. You can apply an arm bar without actually breaking an arm..if you have sufficent pressure they will feel it and tap out. -

it's cool treebranch, but i would like ot make a few comments We do spar with groin kicks ..but we do wear a cup/shin gaurds. we also train for this, rear naked choke, bar arm choke, two hand choke etc..but it's not really something you can spar with because if someone chokes me from behind it's obviously by suprise. -
style w/ lot of pressure points, nerve strikes etc.

good luck, in my personal opion most of what is out there is too difficult to pull off under the stress and fear of a real fight..although there are some useful aspects im sure. -

Wing Chun Vs. Boxing
TJS replied to Stold's topic in Choosing a Martial Art, Comparing Styles, and Cross-Training
I think there are several option 1)meet him at his wrist and thow a Right Cross at the same time...works better for mor of a wild hook. 2) take your arm back and put it to the side of your head like a triangle without the bottom..there really isint anywhere for the punch to hit except your arm...and if they have commited to the attack you will have a nice opportunity to deliver a nice straight left. 3)bob an come up on the dead side and work the head or body 4) simply move back and let it miss. -

i think techniques like that should be the icing on the cake...as in you should know technique without them...they are just an added bonus. -

Taking out some pent up frustration? next time slow it down and make a coherent sentance. How did he catch me badly? what are you talking about? I made two comments in this thread and neither contradicted the other one, nice try though.. next time slow it down and come up with a real point. -
Hapkido vs. Krav Maga
TJS replied to Frogman's topic in Choosing a Martial Art, Comparing Styles, and Cross-Training
They are similar in some ways but Are pretty different really. Krav Maga is based on Instictive reactions and is designed to work under stress, The system as a whole is very well thought out and It's simplicity and down to fighting stlye is hard to match imo. While I have heard Hapkido is a well rounded combative stlye I would still prefer KM because of it's simpicity and design. -
Royce Gracie at the street?
TJS replied to Anzie's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
Royce Gracie would beat 99.9% of the people out there that are not trained fighters regardless of where the fight took place.. Against an untrained fighter he could proabably secure a break or choke in a matter of seconds... Even if he did not want to take it to the ground Royce has trained in striking for 7 years now so he would not be a fish out of water by any means. besides...everyone knows who Royce Gracie is.no one would ever attack him -

Sparring methods for combative arts.
TJS replied to JerryLove's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
No I didn't, you did. I said work on technique while going hard, not do them seperate. so if someone has been learning technique for a year or two but has never sparred...you belive if you put them in there their first time and said go at it 100% that their technique would be there? no..they would need to slow down some and get used to it then build their way up to full contact. -
jiu jitsu rules
TJS replied to PhilM1's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
I was going to pick someone up and slam them once when they had me in a triangle...but since he outweighed me by about 50 pounds it didint work out too well Oh i forgot, small joint manipulation might be frowned upon in some cases.
