Could you explain the stance..i have a hard time picturing a closed leg fighting stance that allows much mobility or balance..
-
how is that?i mean you dont stand in a fighting stance with your legs closed you?

Basically Because Kyokushin Has been the Only stlye of Karate to compete succesfully against Fighters from Thailand and other top fighters around the world..look at K-1..nearly every karate fighter in there has a Kyokushin background. If it's full contact then it's fine by me.

I recently had an argument with a fellow martial artist about this, so I was glad to see that there has been a discussion about this on the forum. I totally agree with sparring with groin kicks. I used to study tae kwon do, and I used to love high kicks. The first time I sparred in kenpo, I learned real fast that high kicks are almost always a bad idea for this reason. At first I found it really frustrating, but now I have gotten really good at blocking down there and feel pretty confident that I can defend my goods in a real life confrontation. So, I think its a good idea. Just my two cents. what technique do you learn to block groin kicks just out of curiosity?

ok what would be a better option than the gaurd? Assuming you end up on bottom what would you do?let them take the mount and pound your head in? The gaurd is the best of the worst positions..if at all possible you should never utalize it...if you end up on bottom it's proabably because thre person you fighting is much bigger or stronger or they got you by suprise in a real fight the better grappler is going to try and get on top.
-
that might not change if you started karate..I would suggest Looking into Kyokshuin karate or One of it's offshoots.
-
I honestly think it depends on training if you have never sparred full contact/been in a fight/compete in a full contact event then you are very unlikely to use alot of technique imo...

I think Eye gouging, small joint manipulations, biting etc..can all be effective when used correctly. Here is the problem though, People simplly use them as an excuse when they dont know grappling..like here are a few common ones - "if someone arm barred me I would bite their leg" nice, but chances are they will still break your arm..I would trade a bite for a broken arm any day. -"If I was in their gaurd I would just punch them in the groin" Maybe but if you are in position to do so, then You proabably are about to get an arm/leg broken/traingle choked etc....or they will a sweep or kick you away. "I would just eye gouge them" where? when? if they have the mount on you, whitch is very likely then A) they are going to be in a much better position to do so B)You extending your arm is the last thing you want to do..it will get snapped very quickly If you are in the gaurd then the same applies..for the most part. That being said, thechniques like you said can absoultly be useful..but they should be applied on top of other skills imo. basically I think everyone just gets sick of people using them as a universal way to beat a grappler.

Wing Chun Vs. Boxing

ok, assuming your right that still leaves the stance he throws them from and the fact that he uses his shin and not the ball of his foot...both point ot Muay Thai. -

It's called drawing conclusions based on evidence...I dont have to drive a Ferrari to know its faster than a Civic now do I? yes, since Muay Thai end especially Kyokushin dont have high kicks His kicks are nothing like TKD snap kicks..not in any way..diffrent stance, contact point(shin not the ball of the foot), and recoil(swinging thru instead of snapping back) yet it's TKD kick eh? intresting conclusion. -
I think the two go hand in hand...unless you relly on the whole on hit on kill philosophy (which is rarely the cases against a determined attacker) then you will find yourself in a fight. I think That if he is not learning how to fight then it is VERY unlikely he is learning realistic self defense.
-
intresting, here some evidence that would lead to the contrary, one of the fighters is a Shotokan black belt btw- http://www.bullshido.us/dl_goto.asp?id=64 I think it's a bit outlandish to make a statment like that...Your saying every true shotokan black belt out there would be able to hold his own against Some like Tank abbot? Royce gracie? Rickson gracie? Bob sapp? Tito ortiz? I find that somewhat hard to beliee..im just using them as examples BTW since they are common names.

Wing Chun Vs. Boxing
TJS replied to Stold's topic in Choosing a Martial Art, Comparing Styles, and Cross-Training
They were not random fighters who have trained in boxing at one time..Don Frye, Vitor Belfort, Gary goodridge, Nog,Tank etc...have not only trained in it they still train in it and WIN against world class fighters using it...once again WC cannot claim one top figher to it's name. no, really he does not..when he fights he uses a combination of Muay Thai and Kyokushin for standup and submission grappling...he looks nothing like a TKD fighter and has even made several comments about it I would suggest looking at. thats exactly my point. no a pure boxer would not win, but you missing the point- Boxers and Muay Thai fighers that cross train in BJJ/wrestling/etc can and do win on a regular basis...WC has never been able to do that once again. Boxers/Muay Thai fighters that can grapple are very succesful in todays world...and there is not a single WC practicioner who has been able to do that... I never said WC was useless or Anything negative about it...Im posting facts..not biased opinion.. the FACTS are- Boxers compete on the top levels and WC has never even consistently won in any serious fighintg event in the last 10 years. Top fighters seek out And cross train in Boxing many times...The do not Seek out WC..if it were more effective it would be obvious. Keep saying im bashing WC or whatever..im not imsimply stating facts...and when you step back and take an unbiased view I think the conclusion is a clear one. -
Wing Chun Vs. Boxing
TJS replied to Stold's topic in Choosing a Martial Art, Comparing Styles, and Cross-Training
no because boxing has been proven againt other stlyes....It's not coinsidence that so many fighters train in it. does he use it in the ring? does he say it's useful? no..not a good anaolgy...people who have trained in boxing can use it to win fights. alot comes down to the person..but when you look at top fighters there has never been a WC practicioner to succed in any way shape or form. and you never will, do you honestly belive there are any WC fighter that could win against todays fighters? if someone could they would have done it by now. It's true that no one stlye wins...but WC combined with anything has still never had succes like boxing, Muay thai, BJJ etc. the bottom line is WC has never even begun to compete at the level boxing has...Wrestlers/Grapplers train in Boxing for better hands.....Muay Thai fighters even cross train in boxing quite often...same for Kyokushin...If WC had something to offer that boxing didint or was more effective you would see more fighters training in it...and thatsa fact...you cant argue with succes. -

many of todays top fighters are boxers who also cross train in grappling/wrestling...Vitor Belfort, Antonio rodrigo noguiera, etc.. I dont think WC has ever had any succes even in the early UFC's when there were no gloves. -

I think there is a reason why you dont see WC competing against boxers very often...if they had succes they they would compete. I think boxers have the best hands of anyone..and they had better since that is that makes up 100% of their training. -
basically anyone can go thru the ranks..regardless of skill, improvment, fitness, etc...when you see high ranking students that would really stand no chance at all in a real fight..then you have found one.
-
they would be too slow...a talented striker would proabably have little trouble KO ing them.

If your going to duck it then yuo definetly should not stay there you should bob and weave to his dead side and work the angles.
